Glip Klopsyiop I’m not going to deny your experience, but I’d encourage you to rewatch it and consider the perfect title. I was also a bit perplexed by its second half when I saw it theatrically, but upon rewatch, I realized how many experiences and feelings are shared by characters in the second half that mirror ones from the first - you’re clued into this through the very purposeful aspect ratio shifts and when they’re which sizes, etc. These connected experiences, emotions, and growth come in waves. Upon second viewing, the latter half of the film feels way more intentional. That first half is definitely more energetic though.
@@glipk you hated it because maybe it was slow? like trey said is about the state of minds of Tyler and Emily, the film is about both, tyler is explosive and emily is calm
Just finished with Waves and I'm... I dunno what to say. What an emotionally compelling movie that hits way too close to home. Talk to your kids and get to know and understand them. They'll go through life alone, even if you put food on the table, pay the bills, take them to whatever sport practice, put a roof over their heads etc. etc. etc., they'll still be alone if you don't know and understand them.
@lilmil no I don’t. It was literally the same storyline about a troubled teen (doesn’t matter the race) with a gay element. Stop making everything about race.
Someone else said this, but the absolute GALL of the Academy to highlight movies of such incredible depth and magnitude, arguably more than some nominated, and not recognize them with any nominations for the awards themselves is just outrageous.
The most underrated film of 2019. I just saw it last night and was genuinely changed by it. A masterpiece. The craft on display is revelatory.
Aidan Green 100% agree saw it last week and have been thinking about it ever since. Don’t know how this film didn’t get more attention
Loved the first half but the second half was so bad

Favorite movie. I’m so sad it was under my radar upon release! Watched it my first time 2 years ago and I’ve seen it 19 times now :)
bold of the academy to upload this yet not nominating it for literally anything. absolutely robbed
Favorite film. Kelvin Harrison Jr is a force to be reckoned with.

Academy conversations: film gets snubbed. Bombshell had nominations and Waves didn't. Bombshell.
This was ‘moonlight’ without gay characters. Nothing new.
Natalie Zayas-Bazan dumbfuck
Natalie Zayas-Bazan how is it anything like Moonlight? Their totally different

It was rumored that this movie was going to be a musical. Imagine that.
Tremendous film.
