Galaxy Quest was a nice change of pace from her dramatic roles and she’s just too much fun to ignore as the sexy Computer repeater in the “historical documents.” Too cool. The cast was brilliant. One of my favorite movies. She was terrific in Working Girl. And as Diana Fossi in Gorillas in the Mist. Always worth watching.
That is the way an actor or actress must work, contrary they would just fit in certain kind of genres. For example, many action actors. For example one of those guys who can perform many kind of roles is Sam Rockwell.
She is an absolute class act. I just love who she is. A non nonsense sensibility in the best way. Unbelievable she is 73. Such vitality and interest in creation. You are an inspiration Sigourney 💜
Yes, she looks fantastic! So great she doesn’t do any stupid operations! She just looks like an amazing lady with great dignity, who has done so much in her life.. she was such an icon and such a statement against the typical woman role..
Sigourney Weaver is an amazing actress! She can bring the scary and then turn around and bring the funny. She made me scream with laughter in "Heartbreakers" and my favorite of ALL TIME "Galaxy Quest"🍿🎬📽️
I love both of those films! One of my favorite lines of all time is from "Heartbreakers." She tells her daughter to "Wear whatever you want to wear, except what you're wearing right now." Lol. She delivered that line perfectly.
In Galaxy Quest when she looks up and sees that fan and says"Why are there always fans?" Its hysterical...especially if you are a huge fan of all the Alien films.
One of my favorite actresses, who continues to work steadily in a variety of genres. She's selective about the roles she chooses based on the story, which has served her well as she isn't defined by any particular genre. Whether on screen in dramatic, action or comedic performances or narrating a docu-series, it always feels like Sigourney Weaver provides an "intelligent", thoughtful performance.
When i watched Alien for the first time when i was 10 years old, Ellen Ripley literally changed my life and the way i looked at film. If i could meet any actor it would be Sigourney Weaver
I will always love her. That scene in Aliens where she 'communicates' with the Queen is one of the greatest scenes in a film. She should've won that Oscar.
Sigourney was at Yale studying acting with Meryl Streep. A fellow student stated that Meryl was lauded by teachers and Sigourney was constantly put down.. I’m glad Sigourney stuck in there and found success.
Her portrayal of Diane Fossey in Gorillas In The Mist was really doing God's work as an actress (and Alien probably the future of space work, low wage workers facing whatever terrors corporations pit them against). A legendary career. The great Sigourney.
An incredible combination of beauty, intelligence, compassion, and strength. Many actresses have one, two or even three of these traits, but very few have all four. A truly amazing lady.
Just thinking , Sigourney has literally been in 4 or 5 of some of the best movies of all time . What a great legacy as well as cementing herself in history for many , many years to come . The Alien movies , Ghostbusters and also Avatar will still be watched many decades from now . She became a great actor during the prime time of Hollywood which was the mid 70's through the 80's which had the best movies .
She is such a great actress, the biggest star of the cinema of the last half century. Who compares? Nobody else has been so iconic, so big on the screen.
I love this. Thank you for focusing on this unique and genuine human being. Sigourney Weaver has had my attention since the first time I saw her in Ghostbusters. I was a six foot tall nerd about to enter Middle school, and had already experienced the kind of cruel bullying many kids flung around like piñata candy. Seeing her confidence and kindness and humor, and those long legs stretching luxuriously from that red dress gave me a dash of confidence too. It took years for me to grow into and expand that first inkling she gave me that my unusual height, so ridiculed and mocked, actually meant potential for gravitas and a different kind of allure than most “beautiful women.” The legs helped, but more than that is the consistent spark of that brilliant brain, and the feeling whenever I see her, that she’s gonna figure this out, whatever it is. She’s the one to watch. Her role in Avatar for me was the true heart of the movie. And the movie I still will watch whenever I see it on, Dave, is a gem. So excited to anticipate the new movie with Kevin Kline. I really can’t think of a duo I would be more thrilled to see play leads opposite one another again. An amazing, true and good human. A tall woman. A still relevant role model I will always think of that way. And those legs❤. Thank you. This made my day.
I always liked in her interviews how she always stayed true to herself even if it meant she was not always well received by her peers and professors. While everyone was ogling Meryl Streep at Yale, Sigourney Weaver was knee-deep in experimental theater and avant-garde with her other weird classmates down the hall. I've always admired her authenticity.
72? really? I am shocked by that one. I thought she was my age 61. She is so multi functional and multi faceted ....she sure ages well! Fabulous Actress.
Sooo looking forward to seeing all her new movies. I really miss seeing her because all her roles are empowering. She never plays a boring woman. Badass is right! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
She's so versatile it's crazy, she really is one of a kind, love this woman, she deserves everything, hope she'll continue acting for many many years to come
This was a great interview by Jane Pauley! And may I say, Jane still looks stunning at 71! omg I still remember when they had Deborah Norville replace Ms. Pauley on the Today show, back in 1989 - I was so upset. Sexism due to age was even more rampant back then. My God, Jane was ONLY 38! Ms. Pauley is still a great newscaster and interviewer. CBS Sunday Morning, hold onto her!
I agree. Jane Paulie is great at her craft. I remember seeing both her and Jeff Glor doing the evening news and wondered why CBS didn't keep them as nightly anchors. I guess calm and steady news reporting is no longer wanted by the networks.
Yeah, but Deborah Norville didn't last too long at the Today show. How ironic both she and Jane are at CBS all these decades later. I do like Deborah's show Inside Edition
Weavers portrayal of the vapid ,using boss in working girl with Melanie Griffith was iconic . Yes it was a comedy , but she phrased her commands “Tess” perfectly. We just hated her character - such a good actress.
Her father Pat Weaver created both The Tonight Show in 1954 and The Today Show in 1952. And Jane is a TODAY alumni and this year is TODAY's 70th anniversary.
Interestingly enough, both my dad and my aunt were born in those years- my dad was ‘52, and my aunt was ‘54. They’re about the same age as both of those shows, together.
Thx for your post Dave. Daring to speak your brave, mutinous truth on a board of self-proclaimed "Sigourney Weaver's-biggest-fans" types, who in reality have only seen "Aliens" and "Galaxy Quest Quest". LOL P.S. Agree w/ your best S.W picks, but I admit a deep & enduring love for "Gorillas in the Mist".
So humble. You can see her look down when she is complimented at the end. She does have range and she has moxie. Love her and I want to thank her for bringing my favorite sci-fi movie heroine to life - Ellen Ripley.
Had the pleasure of working with her on an independent film called The Girl in the Park. Very professional and kind. Great at her craft. I’d like to see her work with Spielberg if she hasn’t already
A wonderful, classy actress and person! Anxious to see her reuniting with Kevin Kline in “The Good House”. They had such great chemistry in “Dave” and “The Ice Storm.”
Great fun watching Sigourney Weaver movies. I was new to NYC, arriving just before 9-11, and I was training on the sales floor of the famous Hammacher Schlemmer Flagship store. And who should tap me on the shoulder for assistance----Sigourney Weaver. She was tall and glamorous in her everyday clothes. She was my first celebrity shopper and James Taylor was my last when I left in 2013. Thank you Sigourney, best of luck with your new projects.
Has aged gracefully. Is more beautiful now than ever. Great Actress who doesn’t seem ashamed or embarrassed by her role in Aliens franchise. Why should she be? Iconic Role. Legend.
She seems like such a lovely person. I really enjoyed seeing those gardens and listening to the interview. Thank you. I remember seeing Sigourney Weaver many years ago at London, Gatwick Airport having a cup of tea with her Mum*. It was the end of July or beginning of August 1989. Being seventeen that year I was looking for summer work and had been called in for an interview that day (until I went off to college in September). I had arrived early, so was mindlessly people watching in the South Terminal "Gatwick Village" when I recognised her walk on the other side of the shopping area carrying a tray of tea. She and her Mum tucked themselves away behind the Baskin Robbins concession when she turned to look over my way and gave me a sweet, but slightly sheepish smile! It was never in my nature to ask for autographs and I was too shy at the time to approach and speak to a huge film star, especially as it wasn't a public event and she was trying to have a quiet cuppa with someone, all very low-key. Anyway, that's my little Sigourney Weaver story. The first thing I did when I got home was blurt out to my Mum "Guess who I saw at the airport today!!? The lady from ALIENS!"** I could barely contain myself. Now that I'm fifty, I do regret not going over to politely say hello when I had the perfect opportunity to do so. What a shame. **(In fact, I still watch many of her early films to this day and watched ALIEN 3 a few nights ago... her performance as Ripley in that film is so touching and sad - definitely top drawer.) *It was over a decade before I could work out who her travelling companion was, using Google, because the internet didn't exist in 1989. (Initially I had thought she might have been her manager or someone business related, because she was older. Crazy how life works. She had no clue how much of an impact she was going to make in the film industry. It seems it starts out as a hobby, and if things pull off you just make the most of it and have fun. She did a great job. Such an intelligent person.
"Are you the key master?" and the rest is history. How Sigourney has not won at least 3 Oscars ( #GorillasintheMist #Alien #Workinggirl ) and at least one Emmy ( #TheDefenders ) is beyond me. She is in the same league as #Meryl and #GlennClose.
She was a natural beauty, who never went under the knife. She never needed to. But so many former beauties get one wrinkle, and immediately go under the knife, and come out looking like monsters. Like Nikki Cox, whose only 44, but looks 74.
There is something about this woman I've always been attracted to. I think it's her self confidence. Her beauty is obvious. But her talent kind of hits you from left field. Heartbreakers, was also an exceptional display of her comedic talents. I think to this day, Aliens is the greatest sequel to a sci fi movie ever made. But it would have been nothing, without her.
One of the most uniquely beautiful actress. The jaw line, the nose... can't put into words.. And all of that with a lovely personality, she can hold her own space and not overly trying to please others and definitely not self-absorbed.
I just love her, don’t think I will ever have the chance to know her, but she’s just so cool, so funny, smart and classy … god bless you, Sigourney Weaver 🙌
Interesting that she seems not to have had any "work" done, and it hasn't hurt her a bit, in fact, she looks like a real person. Too bad many actresses (or female actors now, I guess) have not learned this lesson.
Low key, one of cinema's greatest icons.
She should have already won an Academy Award
And Emmy Award
Should have won for Aliens and/or for Working Girl.
0r 3; #gorillasinthemist #Alien #Workinggirl
She should’ve one for all 3-Aliens, working girl and Gorillas in the mist
like they mean anything anymore
Sigourney is one of a kind. She brings such energy to the screen, since Alien and many more!
I loved Galaxy Quest. Alien always.
She can save a movie, even if the movie is so bad.

One of my favorite movies. She was terrific in Working Girl. And as Diana Fossi in Gorillas in the Mist. Always worth watching.
Death and the Maiden is some of her best work. Timeless film. SW was robbed of her Oscar.

'A year of living dangerously'. I can't believe this interview didn't bring this up. It made her as a star.
Also no mention of her friendship with playwright Christopher Durang who cast her in a lot of his plays such as Beyond Therapy.
Let's not forget the first two "Ghostbusters" movies.
I love her so much! She is an icon and national treasure.
I love this woman and her being true to herself and not letting past negative experiences shape her. Aliens is one of my all time favorite movies💪🥰
An incredible combination of beauty, intelligence, compassion, and strength. Many actresses have one, two or even three of these traits, but very few have all four. A truly amazing lady.
