    This video was incredibly helpful years ago when I started making volumes. Thank you! These days I use PL Premium in all of my joints and just tack the volume together with brad nails to keep it together while it sets. The joints are ridiculously strong and it takes a TON of work out of the process. I've been using the volumes in a commercial gym for the last 5 years without issue. Thank you again for the great video!

    • @MaxMakerChannel
      @MaxMakerChannel  8 років тому

      Here: habitclimbing.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=61_101&product_id=213 I don´t know where you are from, so there will be a supplier in every country. You need to look for "flange t-nuts" or "screw on t-nuts". You can also use the ones with the claws but pre driling is required in plywood. Otherwise you have to hammer really really really hard.

    • @borneo4x4
      @borneo4x4 8 років тому

      Mate, I am from Sarawak, Borneo and we run everything in metric. Seemed like there are no metric T nuts. I have build a few walls and use the T nuts with the claws that seemed to pop out every now and again. I like that CNC machine of yours.. does magic it seemed.

    • @MaxMakerChannel
      @MaxMakerChannel  8 років тому

      Have you had a look on Alibaba? Its kind of a specialy item. I think they are only used in climbing walls. You could secure the hammer in ones with a tiny screw on an edge.
      The CNC is nice when it works. If it doesn´t its super frustrating. But I spend a few weeks setting it up, tuning it and atm I just need to turn it on and it runs.

    Thank you for this awesome video.
    I will make a volume for the gym that I work, using your video.
    I have a few questions:
    1: The corner cut that you've made at 0:45. Is there another way to make this cut precisely without a table saw? If not, which table saw do you recommend for me to buy?
    2: Is there a way to screw the volume on the wall from behind?
    3: Do you think is necessary to make some kind of backup inside the volume? (For exemple: Hold every face of the volume with some steel cables?).
    Thank you and sorry my english. (Brazil)

    • @MaxMakerChannel
      @MaxMakerChannel  8 років тому

      +SharpenedEyes Thats really cool to know that my video will inspire a build in brazil!
      1. You could use a bandsaw a jigsaw, circular saw or a tilting router. But the table saw will give the most accurate and precise cuts. I recommend you buy one that you can afford and that has everything square, planar and parallel. Most cheap saws are not and therefore are unusable for any project.
      2. Just put in the screws from the back.
      3. Thats a good idea. When built right they are very strong. My one is still hanging today in the same position. Instead of using steel cables you should use climbing rope since it needs to be flexible.

    Your volume looks pretty great! Can you comment on how well the paint/texture is holding up in a gym setting? If it's holding up decently, would you mind sharing the brand and variety of paint you used, including primer? It's been proving very hard to find something that will hold up to even home gym use.

      @MaxMakerChannel  8 років тому

      So far its holding up ok : ) I made it to be as tough as possible. If this doesn´t work longterm I am out of ideas. There is a full writeup about the paint on www.instructables.com/id/Build-an-Amazing-Climbing-Wall-Volume/

      Max, glad to hear it's holding up well so far. I actually posted the same question on your "instructables" write up. I've called 3 different stores that sell automotive paint and none of them carry anything "designed for heavy machinery" which is why I was asking what brand and variety of paint you used so I can source that exact paint. As I'm sure you know, paints get very complicated very quick so the more exact I can be when asking for a product the more likely I think I'll be in getting what I need. Thank you so much for the help!

Its called "2k Acrylic Paint". www.lackwelt24.de/index.php?cat=c267_0-75-Liter-Sets-0-75-Liter-Sets.html I would reccomend you look for the same paint that people put on their cars. Make sure its 2k and acrylic based not epoxy based. I am no expert on paint though. The stuff I bought was described to be super tough. I am sure most paint is pretty similar.

      +Amdraz Thank you! My best advice for any problem solving project is to go step by step and to deal with the task at hand. About the design: Be creative! Engineering is an iterative process. Take an idea and refine it over and over until you reached the perfect plan. Then build it and improve as you go along.

      Max Maker sound advice. It's going to be free standing, as about the only thing the garage structure is good for is keeping rain out.

      Cost, maybe 30€ if I remember correctly. It would be worth doing 5 at once because they use very little wood and paint, but you cannot reuse the paint brushes.
