My mum made it from her mothers recipe from the 1930s. She never used suet, always margarine and always in a washing up bowl. Still making it at 94 yrs
Unbelievable, I was only saying to my brother the other day, do you remember the bread pudding mum used to make? especially with a big dollop of thick homemade custard poured over it and here you are knocking one out 😋......Well done guys, keep them coming love watching you two......Mum used to make an old-fashioned steak and kidney pudding (Hini Hint)
I use the whole of the bread including the crusts as my recipe from my mothers cookery classes at school didn't say cut it off, you get more out of it and as you said Martin it was a way of not waisting leftover bread, over the years we have tweaked the recipe to our taste.
My mother in law used to make bread pudding but with custard over the top. So each slice you cut had custard on it. It was nomilicious. ❤️ If you like custard Martin you would definitely need your 'special' music. 😊 Well done cook Sharon again too. ⭐
Hi Sharon and Martin only recently started watching your videos, brilliant. Contacting you from Wales. My mum used to make this in the 60's she used to soak the bread in cold tea, made it a lovely caramel colour. Brought back so many memories for me. Love you loads xx
I haven't had bread pudding for many years, as a child I used to make it with my Dad, as it was one of his specialties, and it gave my Mom a rest from cooking everything. Looks lovely, I could just eat a big chunk of it right now.
Never seen it done that way, i will give it a go, my mum cut bread in triangles and stacked them in a tray, then poured a egg custurd mixture over the top enough to cover the bread then spinkle currents over the top and bake
Hi there Martin I hope you and family are well I watch all your streams and blogs I’m watching today could you tell me what kind of butter you use and where you get it
You two are hysterical. A delight to watch. Just found you guys today. I've had my air fryer about 2 months and I'm going to try some of your things as I didn't know u could do them in the air fryer. Thanks & keep up the good work.
"Got anything to eat, Gran?" I used to shout through my gran's front door in the late 1930s, I was born in 1933. I always got a lump of bread pudding or apple pie. I still make bread pudding here in Thailand. Although suet is not easy to get here. I can smell your bread pud from here.😊
My mother in law was well known for her bread pudding, it was made in the same way as yours she never measured any thing out. My late husband showed me how to make but it was never as good as hers so I used to get him to make. I have her baking tins my father in law gave them to me when mother died in 1980 and still make the pudding in it, as she had 7 children there wasn’t always milk to spare so she used cold tea.
I was going to ask you about this Martin very strange and you did it without me asking lol. Always remember the bottom part was as you say moist my dad used to make it as my mum always seemed poorly bless her but I don't remember the suite going in to it so thanks for that and Sharon for making it and Stacey for showing her t.shirt and tasting in x
I come from London ( many years ago) I was taught from a young whips snapper to put 1 tablespoon of black treacle & one tablespoon of golden syrup which makes it more gooey. Mind you I’ve just watched yours & loved watching you all with Stacey as well. So funny Bernie
Bread & pudding was ours, growing up in the 1950s/60s. I'm intrigue with this take, so I will bake this soon. That Sharon lady is so good humoured, a real bonny Lass. Peace be unto you.
Now this is what I call proper grub! 👏 I think that this recipe in particular, most people back in the day would use up whatever they had spare and simply add what they thought would go with this awsome pudding. I remember that one occasion my mum added some dates at Christmas time and wow a new version of this recipe was born! As always guys, thank you so much for sharing your unmissable show with us. ATVB, Steve. 👍👍
Thank you 😘 this has brought back so many lovely memories of mum making this and me helping her in the kitchen miss her so much I'm going to make this in my oven tower air fryer wish me luck 👍
Mum made this during the war when food was rationed. So hardly any ingredients. You might want to give it a go. I still make it like that , though in a cullender not a washing up bowl. RIP on stale bread, and place in clean washing up bowl, turn the cold tap on and soak the bread, squeeze out the water and put in bowl, add any mixed dry fruit, any sugar, and mixed spice. That’s it, put into a greased tin, and cook for about 1hr, try it with a fork to see if cooked, if the fork doesn’t come out clean, cook it some more. That’s it. It was delicious, and used to make the kitchen smell lovely.
Hi Sharon and Martin. Just to let you know that I made your bread pudding recipe today and it only took 35 mins at 170 degrees in my air fryer oven. Deeeeliciousssss!!! (and moist) 😂😂👍
When we were growing up, we used to wait for my mums bread pudding to come out of the oven, and walk away with it burning our hands because we could not wait, the next day we had the rest cold, both delicious, I have never tasted bread pudding like my mums not even when I made it. would love one day to get he recipe right, mum never did any cooking from a book.
I loved this back in the 80's!! Our weekly shop was always on a Friday evenomg at Sainsbury's and us kids got a choice of either sweets or a cake as a treat. It was either an Apple Turnover or a huge chunk of bread Pudding for me!! Have you tried it with custard?
My mum used to make this in the war but I don't suppose she used egg in it as they were strictly rationed in the war. I saw this several years ago in Calais Market in France. It was labelled "Pouding." My wife has made it using wholemeal bread but she has t done much cooking for over 25 years si
@@davidsherriff9632 Yes, agree David. My Nan used to make this in war time, didn't use eggs or milk because of rationing. Bread, water to soak the bread and lard and mixed fruit. My mother always made her mum's recipe for us. Funny I cannot find that very original recipe on the internet.
I can't stop laughing. You two are so funny. You can't beat London banter. This and the old London Cheesecake (the one with the pastry and the coconut strands on the top) are my all time favourite 😍 I used to do penny for the guy outside a bakers when i was a kid in the 70's. Whenever I made enough money for a cake I'd go and buy one! 🤣
I had forgotten those cheese cakes until you just mentioned them. One of my favourites too. Nothing like the cheese cake we're all familiar with. We bought bangers with the money given to us for penny for the guy. Great fun letting those off.
@JazzFunkNobby1964 They were the days! I used to like those tiny little fireworks where you threw them on the floor and they'd make a loud bang. Happy memories
Thank god I bought an airfryer as I would never have found you guys!....loving watching all your videos....Great recipes and so entertaining. Keep them coming guys❤❤
I used to love bread pudding as a kid when my great aunt used to make it, although I didn't like the bits of fruit peel in it. Old deserts like this are always the best.
Sharon I have never had this before if me and Jackie made one I think we would pour custard over it I bet martin would love that has custard powder was in powder form like eggs was my late gran told me that many years ago when she use to make e every week little fairy cakes with coloured icing on the top they were very yummy too great videos really love these thank you for taking time to make them Phil and jackie In stoke
That brings back memories I used to have this back in the day it was a treat Sunday tea time yum yum . it's a shame you did not have any Martin as we were waiting for the saxophone music lol Thanks ,Kevbo&Jackie
I know you said to remove the crusts but can you use the crusts from making ‘Crimpits’ with the stale bread? Can you cook it in the air fryer on bake? Xx
Good to see this stuff again having been decades without it.👍 Of course the big question hangs there expectantly - can it be done in an AirFryer? 🤔Curious minds need to know. 🤨Be well.😉
I remember a film called "cool hand Luke" (with blue eyed Paul Newman and George Kennedy - one of my fav films') but Sharon has now destroyed my happy boyhood memories of this film and from now on I will remember it as 'fast hand Sharon' :( Martin - once again you were out-gunned by two Women in the kitchen - get a grip and take command! More Cooking Capers and less smut please !

Great video thank you. Could this be baked in an air fryer so save electricity?

Yes you can!
