The only problem is having to rebuild the engine for 10-15k every 40-80 running hours depending on which engine you have. Pain in the ass but it really is just the most fun car to drive on a track. High rpm, light weight and an open cockpit is an addictive combo
So there was obviously some track time in all cars before the stop watch came out, surely both drivers could feel the radical was 5+ seconds faster not even on a push lap? But still betting on the 911..?? Really?? A good video nonetheless
Yes I felt exactly the same and indeed predicted the result before the start! But the guys were trying to make dramatic story and let’s face it we still really enjoyed it 😂

Sooo the McLaren, with much less downforce beat the Porsche. Now let’s put slicks on both and I’d bet the McLaren would beat the Porsche by half second or more. Not sure why the Radical was part of this. Could have had a third racecar. I did not have to see the vid to know it would win massively.
Such a brilliant video, love hearing the insight from the drivers about how the cars are on track. Having been on track with them a number of times, I wasn't surprised the Radical was so much faster, they're just epic.
lightness and slick tires are way to go to the race track! I was skeptical with radical cause it wasn't a radical with 400~500hp. But radical beats all others. Amazing!
Having not watched the video yet, the Radical. The confidence as a driver that the chassis gives you to push the speed is cool. Though as a driver I like the BAC Mono more.
I been watching reading Dickie Meaden’s reviews and watching his videos for 22 years. Absolutely legendary journalist and driver, he always pushes the car to its very edge.
Having been taken on hot laps in the radical at Anglesey this summer I knew this wasn't even going to be close. OK, my comparator was my modified Vantage S on Cup 2s and not a GT3RS but the Radical is otherworldly to someone who has never raced (except go karts). It has kind of confirmed my suspicion that what makes a road car nice on the road is also what totally compromises it on track. If I want to explore track driving further I will either use my son's Clio 197 or buy a Radical and a trailer. For me, there isn't much point in being really hard on your sports/supercar on track when you've experienced a proper track/race car.
Noticed the 991.2 RS had a decently quicker time on the board than the 992. Do you think the aero held the 992 back, or was there still a lot more left in that lap?
The order of laps times is exactly what I have expected. Porsche can handle more power, it begs for it. Curious to see what 992.2 GT2RS will deliver. Radical looks to serious and also fun. Mclaren 750s is very good, but scary. I had the chance to drive the 720s is Hockenheim, a fairy easy track. I had the feeling that the car was trying to kill me. IMHO it is under-tyred for that engine for most of the drivers.
Really enjoyed this video. Non-biased and to the point. I guess if you combined all three cars you would have what is known as a "race car" and highly unlikely it could be street legal with all the safety requirements that add too much weight.
Adding lightness and slicks wins against mass and complexity. Rarely is this not the case. It's fun to see how precisely each car allows the driver to position the car at apex. The Radical looked positively surgical
Vid is really just showing tyre performance. Would be great if you could test with them all on the same tyres, expect results would be different then. Great watching these cars 👍
I’d still think the Radical would pull of a quicker lap time even if it we’re wearing similar tires to the others. The difference would be cut down by a decent chunk however I feel its weight and aero are just a step beyond a road car.
Not so much. These modern performance "road" tyres are very close to slick performance now. Maybe a couple of seconds difference. The slicks that are on this SR3 are endurace tyres so they're probably less sticky than the cup 2s on the Porsche. The big performance difference you're seeing is weight and downforce.
I was going to leave a comment stating that dropping the 2.5 Audi I5 in the Radical would make it fairer, but clearly it didn't need it. Such underrated cars 🔥
Radicals really are something else to drive. I nearly bought a SR3 when they first came out. Did a factory tour and drove it on Bedford Autodrome and it was incredible. You essentially had to recalibrate your brain for the revs (bike engine), sequential gearbox and aero that you could feel like an elephant was sitting on the car the faster you went. It really was the most incredible driving experience. I really, really wanted to buy it, but then my head kicked in and I bought an M3 instead so the family could enjoy the car too. I’m not surprised it won, but if I had the choice it would be the GT3 RS, but I’d rather the 911 ST.
What a fantastic video. The editing and explanation of driving dynamics gave me a taste of cars i will more than likely never experience. The sensory overload he explained in the McLaren is what we live for 🙌🏻
Holds value best if it's a GT product and you can get one at retail price. Cost to maintain not as clear cut as I thought, was reading some owners who track their GT3 & 720s having quite the spat over which was cheaper to run and more robust on track. On the road a 750s will trash a GT3 due to massive power advantage.
@kevin-l7r7p I'm guessing a 750S would be more enjoyable than a GT3 RS to drive on the road? The dealership experience sounds horrific, though, puts me off, but I would find a good specialist, which beats any main dealer anyway.
Not only McLaren 750s time was slower than 720s but also 992 GT3 RS's time was also slower than 991 GT3 RS but as we all know 992 GT3RS is a huge improvement over 991.I think its the conditions out there and also as mentioned in the video not milking them properly.
Thats the problem, the 992 GT3 RS is NOT a huge improvement over the 991.2 GT3 RS its slightly easier to drive at the limit. Same HP and torque, same rubber and aero is only effective at higher speeds.
He mentions the 750s being a little slower than the 720s but failed to mention the 992RS was also slower than the 991.2RS despite all the aero, fancy suspension etc, progress for you
That's where the mention of track conditions contributing to the slower 750s time really shows merit. There's no way that the previous gen GT3RS is quicker, all things being equal. Also, to further that stipulation, the 750 has already shown it's almost identical in lap time on several circuits to the 765LT.
The radical show why imo cars like the gt3rs are kind of pointless. Compromised as a road car and compromised as a track car. If I had the money I’d have a proper road car and a proper track car like the radical.
The radical performance shows how the GMA T.50s may be crazy fast on the track. It has the same power to weight of the Austin Martin Valkyrie. Le man’s FTW!
For the price of either the McLaren or the 911, you could get the Radical, a modified Toyota Tundra (2nd Gen because it’s the best) to tow it to the track, and a Cayman S.
I find the statement about the GT3 RS's "range" at 6:00 hard to believe. If you have a 992 GT3 RS and you drive it from the UK to the Nordschleife and back, I applaud you. But from what I've heard, the GT3 RS is so track focused, that it becomes really uncomfortable to drive on the road for extended periods, whereas the 720S and 750S apparently make fantastic GT cars.
More great stuff. James' perspective is EVO to the core. Such a great part of the team. imo EVO has struggled with that in more recent years. Maybe poach Sam Sheehan also and it would be like the old days with the very best automotive journalists in the business all in one place. Anyway....who was quickest?! ;)
As amazing as the radical is and the McLaren for out-rite speed!! If it was my money to buy one car I still think the GT3 R/S wins it for me.. the Anglesey circuit looks amazing but I reckon on the the green hell the gt3 rs would be in a league of its own… great 👍🏻 vid guys
6 years ago the 991 gt2 rs did a 1.12 on Cup 2 tyres… so with Cup 2 r tyres i guess it would be a 1.10. also the exige Cup 430 did a 1.14 on Cup 2 tyres.
I used to track 992 gt3rs, very fun and fast road car to drive. It can brake at the same braking point as Cup car. In some ways, it feels very similar to Cup car even tho not using slicks. Imagine if it uses slicks, I think the time would be so close. Then I tried Radical SR10XXR, the feel of Radical is so raw. No TC, no ABS, no power steering and slicks really demand our driving skill. I think they can not be compared, very different feeling. Which one I choose on track? Of course Radical.
No wayyy! I was betting +2 or 4 sec for the Radical. Amazing little monster! Damn, this track is always so desirable... one day i'll do the travel from france to drive there.
Like a centrifuge heavy things get heavier so the mass difference is exaggerated under any g force that and later breaking distances and shorter racing lines and your extra power counts for nothing.
If you had that sort of money you'd have the Radical every single time and trailer it to track in your big comfy tow barge. It's not even a close choice.
I have to hand it to McLaren that it did as well as it did. It's such a refined supercar and not nearly as track focused as the others, it's amazing to me that McLaren is able to deliver the lap times they do given it's not marketed as a track weapon...

The only problem is having to rebuild the engine for 10-15k every 40-80 running hours depending on which engine you have. Pain in the ass but it really is just the most fun car to drive on a track. High rpm, light weight and an open cockpit is an addictive combo
Not street legal in every jurisdiction. Certainly not here in Canada!
"Add lightness". :)
Light weight wins. Gordon Murray is shocked...
But the guys were trying to make dramatic story and let’s face it we still really enjoyed it 😂
EVO tested a Corvette against a Lotus and a Porsche still won!
yeah i thought they've never touched Forza or GT to think they had a chance vs a a radical on a track like that ,were not even motor journalists and we knew 😂
Great rolling shots of the cars moving around. Thank you
Sooo the McLaren, with much less downforce beat the Porsche. Now let’s put slicks on both and I’d bet the McLaren would beat the Porsche by half second or more.
Not sure why the Radical was part of this. Could have had a third racecar. I did not have to see the vid to know it would win massively.
12:46 Those speeds are radically much quicker than the Mclaren 750s and the Porsche 911 GT3RS, wow that baby is QUICK.
Also: 12:12 that's maaaaaaybe an inch?!
3RS sounded amazing, great to see the Radical kick ass tho, phenomenal video, well done all 🙌
Crazy that the downforce made the 992 slower than the 991.2, interesting track for a comparison like that.
I been watching reading Dickie Meaden’s reviews and watching his videos for 22 years. Absolutely legendary journalist and driver, he always pushes the car to its very edge.
Where is the microphone located? Cylinder number 3? Sounds lovely
Absolutely love the Evo videos!! Credit to all the team
Best EVO video in a long time. More content like this please
The order of laps times is exactly what I have expected. Porsche can handle
more power, it begs for it.
991.2 GT3RS laptime nearly a second faster than 992 GT3RS.... mmm.... 🤔
Was thinking the same, maybe Sutcliffe drove the old one :P
Yes I saw that too! Track conditions can do a lot as well!
They're both listed as 1:12.0 no? 992 should be at least 1 second faster you'd think
@@HondaExige1 that is gt2.. look down the list to see 991 gt3rs time 1:11.2... maybe 992 3rs should do 1:10low or 1:09 high
@@Pepinozaurah right you are
Thank you so much for both an excellent video, but also the widescreen aspect ratio. That's such a delight.
Adding lightness and slicks wins against mass and complexity. Rarely is this not the case. It's fun to see how precisely each car allows the driver to position the car at apex. The Radical looked positively surgical
Awesome comparison.
Thank you.
@@ALMX5DPfor sure, it’s in a different league. Put cup 2R on the McLaren and it’d be quicker than the Porsche.
The sensory overload he explained in the McLaren is what we live for 🙌🏻
Great filming and driving, really enjoyed this ! Thankyou 👍👍
Great review. Video editing/ camera work 👌. All cars shine in there own way
Porsche every time: Holds it value best, lower cost to maintain, most consistent on track & road.
@@kevin-l7r7p I would say they are both too fast to wring out on the road
I’d think the maintenance and operational costs of the Radical would be far less than the Porsche or McLaren.
@kevin-l7r7p I'm guessing a 750S would be more enjoyable than a GT3 RS to drive on the road? The dealership experience sounds horrific, though, puts me off, but I would find a good specialist, which beats any main dealer anyway.
@@ALMX5DPbut you cannot drive it on the road…
As gokart driver (in the past), I would put SR3 1st, because it is very close to gokart. 2nd, GT3 for the crazy sound. 750S in 3rd
I was impressed by the Radical time but then you said it's on slick tires and suddenly, it's not exactly a fair test. Slicks make a HUGE difference.
GT3RS for Knightsbridge and Rodeo Drive, McLaren for the Service Center and Radical for the track 😂
@@VK6AB-. Totally agree.
Great video! Love the way you captured the sound of the cars.
lightness is everything..thank you for this film
Great views of the surrounding land & water from the track! Amazing cars! Cool video! Well done lads!
Great video, loved it
Hang on, the 991.2 GT3RS lapped this 1:11.22, much faster than 992 GT3RS? How is that possible? Those cars are miles apart in track performance.
Something is not right
@@mariodiniz21. Conditions. Driver. Tyres. Life the universe and everything 😊
If I had the money I’d have a proper road car and a proper track car like the radical.
remake that test using same slick tires 😍
I move to the good TV upon seeing an EVO video.
brilliant video, thank you!
Being a track junkie...this is an excellent video! Well done 🏁🏁🏁
Circuit focused cars usually shine through.
6 years ago the 991 gt2 rs did a 1.12 on Cup 2 tyres… so with Cup 2 r tyres i guess it would be a 1.10. also the exige Cup 430 did a 1.14 on Cup 2 tyres.
Great benchmark, time to invest in new mics though
Out of interest how many laps do you do in each car to execute the best lap ?
The only shock here was just how quick that McLaren was. Especially as the most road bias one of all.
well done the people that set those cameras up (+sound) - amazing filming
simplify and add lightness, always the winning formula. great video
Slicks on all three cars might have given a more level playing field. Solid analysis.
Interesting contrast!
Oh baby! A Radical at Anglesey, my dream. 😍
The driver is good, beat Jason Plato's 750S time of 1:13.80 with 1:11.74, and 992 GT3 RS time of 1:12.64 with 1:11.98
Great video.
Cant wait to see the 992 GT2 RS on Anglesey Track
Brilliant piece of filming
Perfect demonstration of why the GT3 RS is compromised both as a road car and as a track car.
Yup the 911 gt3 touring is the best porsche imo
Perfect demonstration of why the GT3 RS is perfect both as a road car and as a track car.
@@RadialSeeker113 Touring is even more compromised - a form-over-function poser car with a removed functional wing and unbalanced aero just for looks. It's not that different from those "Stanced" cars that also compromise performance for looks, just for self-conscious people. Also, RS is more comfortable than Touring on the road with suspension on soft (I drove both a lot). And locked-down diff with stability control on maximum is effectively a "snow crawl mode" for when you get caught in a sudden blizzard on a high mountain pass. Touring can't do soft suspension mode or adjust stability control or diff lock, so much less versatile. If not needing the frunk, RS is more practical. The space behind the rear seats is several times bigger than the frunk, air-conditioned, and fits everything I need for a 4-5 day trip, so I'm not missing the frunk.
@@N911GT2except the 750s is more super car. Looks better. It’s faster. More comfortable. Turns more head. It dumps on the Porsche on its own playing field.
Because it’s meant to do both 🤷♂️
I hope you guys get your hands on the GT3 RS MR in the future.
We need more leaderboard videos 🎉
The placement of mics and the fact that these monsters are shouting in my ears...AWESOME!!
I'm thinking the McLaren could be even faster out of the turns if they'd hold the wing up a bit longer coming out of corners like the GT3 does. They seem to use it only for braking.
Would love to see a run of the 750 on slicks
They should have included a 720s GT3X
@ doesn’t that have like 1000hp
Around 740hp
So i think the question is, what time the 750s could do at the nurb?
Sub 7 easy
Lightweight British sports cars again for the win!!
2:17 who in the right mind, choose any 911 instead of this? Mclaren everyday of the week!
I have a 100+ hours in a SR3-1340 and 3000+ track miles in a C7 Grand Sport. The Grand Sport is an awesome track car, especially with racing slicks. It's got Toyota Celica reliability. It's very fast. The Radical is so much faster and so much better at the limits. Sadly, it is also much more expensive to drive. Tires and brakes are cheap, everything else isn't.
Massively impressed by the Mc.......Anglesey favours the gt3 being twisty and short straights. I expected the gt3 to be the faster of the 2.
The video is great and I liked it. The interviews remind me of Aadrman's Creature Comforts, though. Which is even greater!
if had a choice for a track toy slash road legal car in some countries would be either the BAC Mono , KTM xbow gt2 , or Areil Atom 500 v8
