Another problem is that the main battle pass is filled with junk and as a result VBucks are pushed aside to the bonus rewards. You can’t even finish the main battle pass with the full amount of vbucks

Spot on. Epic used to lean on the BP to "sell" Fortnite. They don't need to do that anymore. So the BP gets all the ugly and bland concepts. The art style is more "realistic" and generic. So the skins are more forgettable. The only thing selling the BP these days is collabs. Emotes are almost ALL collabs now, and they want to sell those in the item shop. So the BP is left with "filler" emotes that instantly get archived. They also waste like 10 spots on edit styles, when those used to just be included.
I miss the older passes now the current battle passes look the same, and id honestly respect epic if they went the halo infinite route where you can buy and grind the old passes
@@Thebigman2.0 yeah, I've been a major advocate for it but we all know epic wouldn't do it, they want to lock skins behind time gated battlepasses that force your hand and release trashy item shops that nobody asks for and now they have to cater everything for the new modes

I think another big thing that made battle passes so special was the addition of a new kind of cosmetic (sprays, toys, back blings, etc). These were also only available through the battle pass at the launch of the season. Epic needs to stop taking the safe route and start being a little more innovative in terms of the battle pass
Another problem with the edit styles are when a back bling or another cosmetic with edit styles is unlocked but with its alternate style forcing you to grind out the bonus page for the main style of the cosmetic. It’s so stupid
Also when you get super styles you don't get them on any other cosmetics, onto the skin, so you have to try and combo different stuff with it that doesn't work just to match colors
I feel like no one gets why they don't do original emotes anymore They actually want to credit the artist behind it and add the original song that came with it too Thus making it icon series Most, if not at least 90% of the emotes in chapter 1 were just plain stolen
If they really cared about crediting the creators, they would’ve done so for the ones that were stolen. There’s definitely a way to credit folks without having the emotes being restricted to the shop
Chapter 4 was just a bunch of filler. Chapter 5’s story is alright and easy to understand. Valeria, a rich, ambitious businesswoman and adventurer used the faction known as the Society to locate many riches. The one she wanted was Pandora’s Box. She succeeded in finding and opening it, unleashing the Gods on the island to try to return the evils that escaped. This angered Zeus, who chose to nearly kill the Society brats. After Hope defeats him, he angrily opens the box again, unleashing the wastelanders. Now we’re helping Hope and Jones against the Wanderer, a mysterious man who aids Megalo Don’s tyrannical regime. A little boring, but better than anything Chapter 4 gave us.
Yearly chapters have kind of made me sad as weekly map changes are a thing of a pass with small story lines like teddy bears vs gnomes and coral buddies now its just big updates and no build up to the new season until the end same with secret skins when you saw the wolverines claw marks then footprints ect
soooo real i cant even name 1 battle pass skin now, back then the skins were iconic, it was "fortnite battle royale" only no rocket league game mode, no lego, no multiverse stuff and the best of all we used to have LTMS back then which made the game fresh every week
Yep and it's all bc of the new players who were crying about not being compensated for something they didn't experience. the point of a Bp is to highlight the theme of a season. It's exclusive for a reason if they ever brought them back. no one would care about those cosmetics anymore. fornite really has gone to sh!t

I think the only ones that had relevancy this year with the storyline were mostly Jones (with his Vengance Jones skin) and Hope. I geuss you can also count Cerberus as well due to S2's story quests really making you know he exists (sadly by killing him all the time except for all but one parts of his own story questline), he is also the only one still here from last season. Other than those I mentioned, it doesn't seem that we have any known figures that can somewhat influence the storyline ither than Peely and the unknown character "The Wanderer". You could probably tell I play this game for fun if I'm trying to keep up with the story. I wish we had stories like the ones in C2 (C1 had a good story too, but not as solidified as it was in C2, and C4 seemed to be where the storyline quests felt a little empty and like filler, with C4 S2 being the best "storyline" we likely got that chapter)
One thing you didn't really mention that I wish they still did is giving the battle pass skins challenges that you unlock when getting the skin. They did this in basically every battle pass back in chapter 1, and almost all of these skins challenges were completable after the season ended. These challenges rewarded you with the styles for the skins (so they don't clog up the main pass) and they also gave you extra rewards like backblings, pickaxes, emotes, etc that also weren't in the main battle pass. Also a lot of the styles you got with these challenges were the actual progressive ones that upgraded the skin. Especially in seasons like 9 and X, every single skin in the battle pass had challenges you could do to unlock extra rewards. These challenges gave you more of a reason to keep playing and unlock all the cool rewards to match your skin, and also sort of bond with the skin as you are personally working on the challenges for that skin. Nowadays it's more so just "oh cool I got this skin" and that's it. Back then you got the skin but now had extra challenges unlocked with it to do and earn even more awesome styles and rewards to match the skin
I think, after a few years, battle pass characters should be available for purchase or, old battle passes could come back as a series of quests. However, it would make this trade of the unique be less urgent
I really agree with you on the progressive styles but not only that I just wish they made a bunch of styles for skins in general, trying to like ROX from chapter 1, season nine I just miss when they put more effort in the battle pass. Now every single one is either a rescan or a collaboration. The collaboration part is very annoying to me because it gets rid of the creativity. Imagine we had the wanderer as the secret skin instead of magnet to be honest, they’re not even called secrets skins anymore in another example, I have is chapter 2 season one. I miss when there was quest to unlock a certain style for a certain skin. I know we have bonus rewards, but I’m talking about like actual cool styles not these random golden and black ones. Because if you’re gonna be honest, all the question rewards do is change the colour of the skin, not that much I wish when they put effort into the styles of the battle pass, and like you said the emotes
I think a big issue about modern BP are that they arent... good anymore. I rarely buy a battlepass thinking 'damn I want this skin'. I usualy just buy battlepasses nowadays because I get more vbucks out of it and a few items to stack my locker which i'll never use...
Thank you for talking about collabs. I hate collabs in general. It's just Fortnite being lazy and unoriginal. It would be ok every once in a while, but every season there is a collab, and several collabs in the item shop
I dont think they should unvault old battle passes but they should make more like that. If you did buy any battle pass you should be able to finish it any season.

@@Spiffyo Fr. I'm not a big fan of Superman, but I bought the battle pass back then, and unlocked his glider, but not him, so now I have a useless glider in my locker because I had no control over unlocking him in time.
As someone who has been playing since chapter 1 season 6 I can say I agree with all of this. The battle pass feels more like Epic tossing in whatever they want. Most of it feels filler. The sprays. The emoticons. I don’t want that. I want pickaxe’s, gliders, emotes, skins! Heck another argument about newer passes is not enough styles. Most skins get one maybe 2 edit styles and 90% of the time one of those edits styles will be for the skin alone and not the rest of the set. Same with the super styles. Just the skin, not the pickaxe, back bling or Glider! I feel like Epic needs to go back to those original battlepasses. Quit it with the whole (you choose what you unlock thing) cause that’s dumb. Heck there is no point to it cause you need to be a certain level to unlock 5 rewards. It isn’t like the old days where you can unlock a handful of the rewards and get the next page. along with progressive skins. I miss these a lot. Getting a skin that changes through the season. With new styles, colors, and a completely deferent look at the end was amazing! Yet that is also gone. I am really. Really. Hoping that next season Epic changes the pass for the better instead of what they have been doing since last year.

I need to be honest for one second here. I have been playing fortnite before season 4. I have seen the evolutions and reverts of battlepasses from season 5 chapter 1 to current. Its clear they have had a very big dip in overall feel, in reguards to playing for hours and hours and still feeling like you can do more weekly challenges and do more daily challenges. Nowadays you just get the secret skin for nothing and you only get a singular loading screen for finishing all weekly quests. AND THATS ONLY SOMETIMES, we used to be able to flex secret skins like singularity and ruin. But now legit nothing cant be obtained by playing for one hour a day. Anybody can say that even if they grind to level 200 and finish the battlepass, theres still a hole there. You cant really flex any secret skin or battlepass skin because it just gets handed to you nowadays. But back then with the fortbytes you fealt accomplished. But nowadays i feel bored, like i will just have to wait for the next season to to it all over again.
I started to play Fortnite in Jan 2020 on mobile, it was first season for Chapter 2. And you know what? I was so confused with building after PUBG and immediately dropped the game. After that I kinda tried to get back, but I had no android device or gaming pc😅 Long story short, I hate I missed so much, came back only in March 2023
Chapter 2 season 3 did have progressive styles but it was only for the teir 100 and not the whole Battlepass So it wasn’t entirely forgotten until chapter 2 season 4 or 5

Yeah two colab skins in a battle pass is way to much. nobody is buying the battle pass to wear magnito so idk get why epic even does that it's like they're scared that their original skins aren't enough or something.

Just making a 🤓🤓 comment here...but the game that really revolutionized dancing emotes in gaming was actually the Uncharted multiplayer series. First game I ever played that let us do that. Then it just became a normal expectation all around. I know there's maybe other games that also popularized it before, but just wanted an excuse to mention Uncharted lol

New battle-passes are all carbon copies of each other, unimaginative soulless cash grabs, epic has hit a point where they are for the most part decently profiting off of them due to locking collab skins behind that pay wall, causing a sense of FOMO that you may not be able to own a skin of your favorite TV show or video game character, therefore allowing them to crank out battle-passes with the the same formula, layout, and barren bleak cosmetics, with the collab scandal now dominating the main highlights of each battle-pass, it completely overshadows every other cosmetic presented causing a lack of interest in epic making their original skins more unique, killing all chances of their being a new iconic skin like their was in earlier seasons like, the reaper, omega and drift. But the layout is not the only problem, another problem is that epic has gotten lazy with progressive styles and unlock-able styles as mystic mentions, epic has realized that the younger audience of this game feel more satisfaction when they can earn things quickly and efficiently therefore keeping them hooked therefore making progressive styles and unlock-able styles obsolete as it took effort and hours of grinding to actually see your work pay-off, with the new way of earning styles its a matter of just gaining a few more levels which quite frankly is not hard or rewarding anymore to unlock a variety of variants of a skin which is 95% of the time just a recolor of the skin itself.
Ok Magneto, fallout's power armor korra, solid snake, petter griffin, kabe lame, optmus prime, eren yeager, gerralt the rivera, doom guy, spider gwen, darth vader, indiana jones, dr strange, spider man, These are the ones i remember and there is more that i dont remember because i did not played chapter 1 and 2
@@CERISTHEDEV There were no collab skins in the battle pass in chapter 1. Chapter 2 I’ll go from season 2 since season 1 didn’t have one. Season 2 was Deadpool. 3 was Aquaman. 4 was literally an entire Marvel season. 5 was Predator. 6 was Neymar Jr. 7 was Rick Sanchez. 8 was Carnage.
Im gonna be fair but creative XP just ruined the possibility of progressive styles to even comeback, back then you got 25k exp after each x mins you spent on creative, capping at 125k per day, nowadays you get 400k just by doing nothing and get rewarded with it I even do remember when someone got to level 1000 on chapter 2 season 8, a lot of news were going up with Oooooh they got level 1k, while nowadays level 1k is just bland bc up to 500 people get it per season, which makes it way less unique
As a season 3 player i really do wish that epic do bring back the old style the new format doesnt work well and its fsr too easy to level up as you mentioned in p1 but they also should add more emotes like you said at the start

Classic battle passes we're honestly fine on their own. It's one of those "why fix something that isn't even broken" things. They had way more cooler rewards & more free rewards compared to nowadays. I don't understand how this game has so much content & it still feels either lackluster, underwhelming, & kinda forgettable.😶 Nowadays, players can just easily buy all 100 levels & just only have to work on bonus quest rewards & extra styles, but other than that, there's really nothing to do.🤔 Fortnite has truly evolved past its original identity , and it's starting to feel like any other generic game. When fortnite was "itself," it felt unique & special back then. It's really starting to give me Roblox vibes, & the whole metaverse thing doesn't interest me honestly. They're spreading themselves way too thin with all these other modes that I fear battle royale will get lesser content in the future. Who knows nowadays.😕
I think since after changes to changes and ups & downs for BR over time. Epic games can only do so much for br. Some seasons can be great & fun, and other seasons can be downright the worst. So Epic games try to do this metaverse stuff and add different variety content for long Jeopardy for game's future. And so far, right now, it is not doing so hot. I'm not against the metaverse thing, but Epic games need to execute it right if they want fortnite to drive for a very long time.

About the collab skins being locked away, i started fortnite ch 3 s 1 bc i liked spiderman at the time ,BUT i was horrible at the game and I didn’t know seasons were timed i thought if you finished the battle pass you get a new one so I didn’t get even half way and didn’t get spiderman same thing with dr strange but for season 3 and all ofthe other. Seasons after that i got it i have no way home spiderman but it doesn’t feel the same as the original red and blue hopefully fortnite changes this
Then no skin has any value. It's very sad, but the pass is based on this. If this is done what you want, Epic will have defrauded me. Because even though some ignorant people deny it, Epic said at the time that it would remain exclusive to the pass. By the way, starter packages or STW packages will now be returnable (the same skin may return). Of course, I don't think the past will return because Epic can't do that by law. While this is already bad news, innovation will end. People want both old skins or different versions. Wait a minute, wait a minute, were you (I mean other people) playing because there was something original and new in Chapter 1, and now you want the same thing (the same skin to return or for example: jacket version)? I really enjoy your commentary videos! New to the channel. But I do agree on your thoughts on the newer battle passes. I really enjoyed The Battle Pass System from chapter 1 and 2. Especially the progression styles and when they introduced the level progression in chapter 2. I honestly don’t mind a collab skin in the battle pass. If it’s a character who’s cool. But I don’t really like it when they are randomly thrown in as a tier 100 skin or a “secret” skin. I do indeed miss the old battle passes when the secret skin was actually a “secret” skin! And honestly I just prefer when Fortnite makes an original tier 100 skin. And I really like the concept of the ranked skins. Or ranked cups. Because those really bring out the fun to the game. In my opinion anyways. But maybe if we get lucky, we can get a ranking reward in the pass like a pickaxe next season.

Yeah you wish to have old battlepass skins but i tell you it will never happen. The only thing that would be good to happen is they bringing back the old battlepass system, like battlestars separated from the level, progresive skins, secret skins where you had to do challenges to unlock them, and the other challenges section like there were of course daily challenges and weekly challenges but there also were as you progressed the battlepass like challenges for every charater in the pass so you can get the complete set for them like gliders or pickaxes or even backblings.

@@Alright281he is right. There would be no point in battle passes otherwise. Battle passes replaced loot boxes in the game industry. Loot boxes is basically gambling while the battle pass system incentives players to play the game now. That is what a business is for.
I loved leveling up my drift character, and I remember I was so happy when I maxed him out. It's kinda sad they don't do it anymore. I like the build a brella too. And all these things were so good, but they got rid of them. Another thing I loved was created in C2S2. I liked how you could explore the battle pass lobby thing. And I loved the little room where deadpool was. I miss those days. God, Fortnite, pls add them back.
Now this isn't really related to the battle pass but one thing I don't like is the fact that they combined the Gameplay trailer and the cinematic trailer. I always loved watching the cinematic trailer and seeing all the cool stuff in it but now that they have combined both of them it just feels boring
IMO they should only bring back collab bp skins some of the most iconic fictional characters are in it Superman , spiderman , iron man , Deadpool , Wolverine , and Peter griffin

correction Chaprer 2 season 3 also had a progressive skin being Eternal Knight who got finished by level 160. Marvel season was the first to abandon it for super styles. GREAT VIDEO BTW
12:29 to be honest, challenges were more rewarding and more fun to do then now… I remember does aggressively challenges that tell us to eliminate players in two different named areas or visiting two different named areas on a single match. I mean, do you guys remember that fortbyte that requires to memorize the pattern of the colors? That was painful as hell, but well rewarded once you manage to complete it.
The thing that i will forever miss with old fortnite are the vibes that it had and the amount of effort that the developers put into a 2017/2018 small battle royale king of a game And i miss how chapter 1 linked almost every season so flawlessly and how they alterred the maps each season to somehow make sense with the themes It was a totally different game then whatever tf we have now And i love the old graphics i dont understand why they want to use the fugging laggy ass graphics that we have now Sure it can look good but only if you have invested the most for your gaming setup and the game doesnt even look good for alot of the players anymore unlike in chapter 1 where on every device it looked basically the same
5:16 progressive styles were introduced in chapter 1 season 4 with carbide and omega. Here are all battle pass skins that had (a) progressive style(s): - carbide & omega (s4) - drift & ragnarok (s5) - calamity & dire (s6) - lynx, zenith & the iceking (s7) - blackheart, hybrid & luxe (s8) - rox & vendetta (s9) - 8-ball vs scratch (ch2s1) - agent peely, brutus, tntina, meowscles, skye & midas (ch2s2) - eternal knight (ch2s3) However, only the progressive skins of s4, ch2s1, ch2s2 and ch2s3 were locked to their season. The progressive skins of s5, s6, s7, s8 & s9 can still be finished progressing today so their progression wasn’t locked to their season in which they got introduced
I wish they brought back battle pass skins like in ch 1 season 4, 5 and 6 when the tier 1 and 100 skin had styles you needed to unlock. Imo drift and ragnorok are sill one of the best skins
Personally id love to see again progressive styles rather then super styles, like it was more fun too see the skin progressively change the more you play rather then just buy a different colored style, same thing with the lv 1/100 skin be progressive like the ch1 were, it was cooler to see omega/carbide slowly getting a full set of super hero armor

One thing i miss is the challenges. Where you had to use specific battle pass characters and use other thing you got from the battlepass. I thought they were fun imo
I do just want to say one thing, they did not abandon progressive styles. In chpt 2 sea 3, the eternal knight skin from that season did have the progression. But, they did get rid of it from the on.
It makes me so incredibly sad how many icon emotes run the game now, I miss the creativity that Fortnite had when it came to making emotes. Yea some of the dances were inspired, but the music was always original, and had its own charm

Here's a different take: The lack of emotes isn't because it's a difficult element to add, but instead might be either a creative decision or a technical limitation. Creatively, they may want to spend more development on their Lego elements and vehicles at the cost of traditional assets. This is especially true if they see their "future" behind those elements. On a technical level, I'm not sure if they have incurred any technical debt over the years that prevents them from loading up all the different combinations of emotes that a player can have within each match. This might be true if there are more gameplay mechanics that are a bit more taxing than others, from a computer hardware resource management point of view. In other words, it would be hard to "fix" their problem as the audience if we don't understand the logic behind their decision. This take applies to all the fun concepts that you brought up. They are good ideas that might have their costs and tradeoffs.
They should start making actual cool skins again. Like Drift, simple and awesome like the Dark Voyager from even the 1st season (i think), make skins have secret styles again, and it will be good

i had an idea on how they could bring back older battle passes If you bought an older battle pass you couldnt get the Vbucks out of it Super styles(not the omega lights or upgrades to a skin) would be locked out and the people who had it og would get some additional style like with skull trooper and Ghoul Trooper That way the people who originally had it would still be "og" while at the same time letting people use the older cosmetics as a new player
There was a large time were I played then stopped and now getting back into it again I missed out on a lot of cool skins and other stuff bring old battle passes back isn’t a new concept people have wanted this for a while. It’s funny seeing them overcharge for literally an edit style for a skin (Look at Ariana Grandes skins) when they could just allow people to buy old battle passes or the cosmetics from it. It’s just weird seeing them do very greedy stuff then not do the thing that will make them the most money and it’s consumer friendly.
Here's my suggestion, add a story mode to the game and attach previous battle passes to that. That way, you satisfy the entire fanbase cause you still have to work for the skins in those passes. I was a season late to get the seven skins and i want a chance to try getting them by working on q really hard quest. Like land at a risky real location guarded by really tough NPC's and try to survive long enough to get thr chests. F**k exclusively. They're just skins and you don't have to sacrifice challenge.
What if instead of getting skins you got a special currency that allowed you to buy today and past battle pass items and skins? that way people wouldnt be frustrated with the skins they lost, you could make that currency expire so people wouldn't stack and would play the newer seasons
that would work but the only problem is: it would be HIGHLY disrespectful to those who purchased the pass during the time it was available + epic specifically said that battle pass items are exclusive to the pass, they might take a skin from the pass and remaster it but that’s it. If they go through with it then the player base will go insane and the battle pass would lose its value. I honestly would be pissed too if I bought a pass in 2018 and suddenly everyone else can buy it in 2024.
@@Wano-Kuno I don't think they should do this with regular skins, but with collabs yes But if they give the Original BP owners a new style or at least some kind of currency (which probably wouldn't work) for the collab skin, for example Superman is a popular character and it doesn't make sense to vault him forever, so they reskin them, because superhero skins have a million variations but skins like darth vader and doom guy aren't like that and they pretty much Don't have any other looks so it doesn't make sense to vault him forever, also they won't do something like this soon but at some point they would, maybe like 10 years later, but at all putting collaboration skins in battlepasses that would be gone forever isn't a good idea at all, I would still agree that those players who bought the original battlepass should keep their value because it would be considered "scam" and epic would face many lawsuits.

The current battle passes super levels rewards dont fill very rewarding. Its just a level up not much else to it. Im already level 140 an its not hard to level up daily either. 3 hours in festival gets you 4 to 5 levels, an battle royal an rocket racing dailies gets you another 2 easy, takes like a hour to do those 2. So basically 7 levels a day. Easy. For 5 hours of play. Not hard.

Instead of just unlocking a super level skin alternative 3 times for the same skin, why not give the third one more optoins, like a added woth hat style or glasses on or off optoin or a different looking back bling super style varient or glider for that matter. Theres much that can easily be done with the current rewards we get an they either stay the same or just get a little something extra to go with them. Makes them fill more rewarding. Ive been playing the game since chapter 1 season 5 and have owned every battlepass since then, but i havent completed every battlepass i missed out on quite a lot, as an OG player (yes not as og as a season 1 or 2 player but still og since people gatekeep that as well) i always thought it was dumb to never bring the stuff back, i get its to make people play the game so they dont fear on missing out but if you bought the pass you should be able to complete it at any point, and a very simple fix to bring back battlepasses for people that missed out is give the people that got (and 100% conpleted) the skins when they where originally available exclusive styles to the skins like they did with skull trooper and ghoul trooper, like i have every chapter 1 skin maxed out save for season 9 and 10 so let people get the old passes and give me an exlcusive style to all the skins i maxed out like drift and ragnarok, the only people that hate the idea of bringing back old passes where kids at the time and people with nothing but free time to grind the game, also let me remind you most of the people that complain about this idea don't even wear the skins they are gatekeeping because they have hundreds of other skins in their locker, I can't tell you the last time I saw a chapter 1 skin running around

Another problem is that the main battle pass is filled with junk and as a result VBucks are pushed aside to the bonus rewards. You can’t even finish the main battle pass with the full amount of vbucks

Spot on. Epic used to lean on the BP to "sell" Fortnite. They don't need to do that anymore. So the BP gets all the ugly and bland concepts.
The art style is more "realistic" and generic. So the skins are more forgettable. The only thing selling the BP these days is collabs.
Emotes are almost ALL collabs now, and they want to sell those in the item shop.
So the BP is left with "filler" emotes that instantly get archived.
They also waste like 10 spots on edit styles, when those used to just be included.

I think another big thing that made battle passes so special was the addition of a new kind of cosmetic (sprays, toys, back blings, etc). These were also only available through the battle pass at the launch of the season. Epic needs to stop taking the safe route and start being a little more innovative in terms of the battle pass

Another problem with the edit styles are when a back bling or another cosmetic with edit styles is unlocked but with its alternate style forcing you to grind out the bonus page for the main style of the cosmetic. It’s so stupid
Also when you get super styles you don't get them on any other cosmetics, onto the skin, so you have to try and combo different stuff with it that doesn't work just to match colors

A little boring, but better than anything Chapter 4 gave us.
Yearly chapters have kind of made me sad as weekly map changes are a thing of a pass with small story lines like teddy bears vs gnomes and coral buddies now its just big updates and no build up to the new season until the end same with secret skins when you saw the wolverines claw marks then footprints ect

I think the only ones that had relevancy this year with the storyline were mostly Jones (with his Vengance Jones skin) and Hope. I geuss you can also count Cerberus as well due to S2's story quests really making you know he exists (sadly by killing him all the time except for all but one parts of his own story questline), he is also the only one still here from last season. Other than those I mentioned, it doesn't seem that we have any known figures that can somewhat influence the storyline ither than Peely and the unknown character "The Wanderer".
You could probably tell I play this game for fun if I'm trying to keep up with the story. I wish we had stories like the ones in C2 (C1 had a good story too, but not as solidified as it was in C2, and C4 seemed to be where the storyline quests felt a little empty and like filler, with C4 S2 being the best "storyline" we likely got that chapter)
One thing you didn't really mention that I wish they still did is giving the battle pass skins challenges that you unlock when getting the skin. They did this in basically every battle pass back in chapter 1, and almost all of these skins challenges were completable after the season ended. These challenges rewarded you with the styles for the skins (so they don't clog up the main pass) and they also gave you extra rewards like backblings, pickaxes, emotes, etc that also weren't in the main battle pass. Also a lot of the styles you got with these challenges were the actual progressive ones that upgraded the skin. Especially in seasons like 9 and X, every single skin in the battle pass had challenges you could do to unlock extra rewards. These challenges gave you more of a reason to keep playing and unlock all the cool rewards to match your skin, and also sort of bond with the skin as you are personally working on the challenges for that skin. Nowadays it's more so just "oh cool I got this skin" and that's it. Back then you got the skin but now had extra challenges unlocked with it to do and earn even more awesome styles and rewards to match the skin
They actually did have progressive styles in chapter 2 season 3 with the knight skin

I really agree with you on the progressive styles but not only that I just wish they made a bunch of styles for skins in general, trying to like ROX from chapter 1, season nine I just miss when they put more effort in the battle pass. Now every single one is either a rescan or a collaboration. The collaboration part is very annoying to me because it gets rid of the creativity. I think a big issue about modern BP are that they arent... good anymore. I rarely buy a battlepass thinking 'damn I want this skin'. I usualy just buy battlepasses nowadays because I get more vbucks out of it and a few items to stack my locker which i'll never use...
I typically want at least 1 skin and so that and the vbucks make it worth it. The skin alone is worth it cause most skins are at least 1200

As someone who has been playing since chapter 1 season 6 I can say I agree with all of this. The battle pass feels more like Epic tossing in whatever they want. Most of it feels filler. The sprays. The emoticons. I don’t want that. I want pickaxe’s, gliders, emotes, skins! Heck another argument about newer passes is not enough styles. Most skins get one maybe 2 edit styles and 90% of the time one of those edits styles will be for the skin alone and not the rest of the set. Same with the super styles. Just the skin, not the pickaxe, back bling or Glider! I feel like Epic needs to go back to those original battlepasses. Quit it with the whole (you choose what you unlock thing) cause that’s dumb. Heck there is no point to it cause you need to be a certain level to unlock 5 rewards. It isn’t like the old days where you can unlock a handful of the rewards and get the next page. along with progressive skins. I miss these a lot. Getting a skin that changes through the season. With new styles, colors, and a completely deferent look at the end was amazing! Yet that is also gone. I am really. Really. I need to be honest for one second here. I have been playing fortnite before season 4. I have seen the evolutions and reverts of battlepasses from season 5 chapter 1 to current. Its clear they have had a very big dip in overall feel, in reguards to playing for hours and hours and still feeling like you can do more weekly challenges and do more daily challenges. Nowadays you just get the secret skin for nothing and you only get a singular loading screen for finishing all weekly quests. AND THATS ONLY SOMETIMES, we used to be able to flex secret skins like singularity and ruin. But now legit nothing cant be obtained by playing for one hour a day. Anybody can say that even if they grind to level 200 and finish the battlepass, theres still a hole there. You cant really flex any secret skin or battlepass skin because it just gets handed to you nowadays. But back then with the fortbytes you fealt accomplished. But nowadays i feel bored, like i will just have to wait for the next season to to it all over again.

Chapter 2 season 3 did have progressive styles but it was only for the teir 100 and not the whole Battlepass

Just making a 🤓🤓 comment here...but the game that really revolutionized dancing emotes in gaming was actually the Uncharted multiplayer series. First game I ever played that let us do that. Then it just became a normal expectation all around. I know there's maybe other games that also popularized it before, but just wanted an excuse to mention Uncharted lol

New battle-passes are all carbon copies of each other, unimaginative soulless cash grabs, epic has hit a point where they are for the most part decently profiting off of them due to locking collab skins behind that pay wall, causing a sense of FOMO that you may not be able to own a skin of your favorite TV show or video game character, therefore allowing them to crank out battle-passes with the the same formula, layout, and barren bleak cosmetics, with the collab scandal now dominating the main highlights of each battle-pass, it completely overshadows every other cosmetic presented causing a lack of interest in epic making their original skins more unique, killing all chances of their being a new iconic skin like their was in earlier seasons like, the reaper, omega and drift. But the layout is not the only problem, another problem is that epic has gotten lazy with progressive styles and unlock-able styles as mystic mentions, epic has realized that the younger audience of this game feel more satisfaction when they can earn things quickly and efficiently therefore keeping them hooked therefore making progressive styles and unlock-able styles obsolete as it took effort and hours of grinding to actually see your work pay-off, with the new way of earning styles its a matter of just gaining a few more levels which quite frankly is not hard or rewarding anymore to unlock a variety of variants of a skin which is 95% of the time just a recolor of the skin itself.
If pets worked like grogu or rocket raccoon people would most likely love them as those are just little friends who follow you around

Im gonna be fair but creative XP just ruined the possibility of progressive styles to even comeback, back then you got 25k exp after each x mins you spent on creative, capping at 125k per day, nowadays you get 400k just by doing nothing and get rewarded with it
I even do remember when someone got to level 1000 on chapter 2 season 8, a lot of news were going up with Oooooh they got level 1k, while nowadays level 1k is just bland bc up to 500 people get it per season, which makes it way less unique

Fortnite has truly evolved past its original identity , and it's starting to feel like any other generic game. When fortnite was "itself," it felt unique & special back then. It's really starting to give me Roblox vibes, & the whole metaverse thing doesn't interest me honestly. I think since after changes to changes and ups & downs for BR over time. Epic games can only do so much for br. Some seasons can be great & fun, and other seasons can be downright the worst. So Epic games try to do this metaverse stuff and add different variety content for long Jeopardy for game's future. And so far, right now, it is not doing so hot.

About the collab skins being locked away, i started fortnite ch 3 s 1 bc i liked spiderman at the time ,BUT i was horrible at the game and I didn’t know seasons were timed i thought if you finished the battle pass you get a new one so I didn’t get even half way and didn’t get spiderman same thing with dr strange but for season 3 and all ofthe other. Seasons after that i got it i have no way home spiderman but it doesn’t feel the same as the original red and blue hopefully fortnite changes this

Especially the progression styles and when they introduced the level progression in chapter 2. I honestly don’t mind a collab skin in the battle pass. If it’s a character who’s cool. But I don’t really like it when they are randomly thrown in as a tier 100 skin or a “secret” skin. I do indeed miss the old battle passes when the secret skin was actually a “secret” skin! And honestly I just prefer when Fortnite makes an original tier 100 skin. And I really like the concept of the ranked skins. Or ranked cups. Because those really bring out the fun to the game. In my opinion anyways. But maybe if we get lucky, we can get a ranking reward in the pass like a pickaxe next season.

Yeah you wish to have old battlepass skins but i tell you it will never happen. The only thing that would be good to happen is they bringing back the old battlepass system, like battlestars separated from the level, progresive skins, secret skins where you had to do challenges to unlock them, and the other challenges section like there were of course daily challenges and weekly challenges but there also were as you progressed the battlepass like challenges for every charater in the pass so you can get the complete set for them like gliders or pickaxes or even backblings.

No they shouldn’t lol on you for starting later on there’s been times where I missed out on a couple passes or some not finished all the way threw and that’s completely my fault and on me and I’m ok with it knowing how they do they’re system and it’s fair
@@Alright281he is right. There would be no point in battle passes otherwise. Battle passes replaced loot boxes in the game industry. Loot boxes is basically gambling while the battle pass system incentives players to play the game now. That is what a business is for.

I loved leveling up my drift character, and I remember I was so happy when I maxed him out. It's kinda sad they don't do it anymore. I like the build a brella too. And all these things were so good, but they got rid of them. Another thing I loved was created in C2S2. I liked how you could explore the battle pass lobby thing. And I loved the little room where deadpool was. I miss those days. God, Fortnite, pls add them back.

Chapter 2 Season 3 actually has a progressive outfit, Eternal Knight, the more leveled up you were, the more dark and bright the aura you will be
correction Chaprer 2 season 3 also had a progressive skin being Eternal Knight who got finished by level 160. Marvel season was the first to abandon it for super styles. GREAT VIDEO BTW
12:29 to be honest, challenges were more rewarding and more fun to do then now… I remember does aggressively challenges that tell us to eliminate players in two different named areas or visiting two different named areas on a single match. I mean, do you guys remember that fortbyte that requires to memorize the pattern of the colors? That was painful as hell, but well rewarded once you manage to complete it.
Btw 8-ball vs. scratch, corrupted style is broken in creative it shows the base scratch instead of the corrupted version.

5:16 progressive styles were introduced in chapter 1 season 4 with carbide and omega. Here are all battle pass skins that had (a) progressive style(s):

However, only the progressive skins of s4, ch2s1, ch2s2 and ch2s3 were locked to their season. The progressive skins of s5, s6, s7, s8 & s9 can still be finished progressing today so their progression wasn’t locked to their season in which they got introduced
I wish they brought back battle pass skins like in ch 1 season 4, 5 and 6 when the tier 1 and 100 skin had styles you needed to unlock. Imo drift and ragnorok are sill one of the best skins
Personally id love to see again progressive styles rather then super styles, like it was more fun too see the skin progressively change the more you play rather then just buy a different colored style, same thing with the lv 1/100 skin be progressive like the ch1 were, it was cooler to see omega/carbide slowly getting a full set of super hero armor

I think why progression style were remove because how secret they are because I did not know there was a progression style in chapter 2 season 1.
It would be cool if we boycott epic until we get everything we want like ACTUALLY GOOD battle passes where the secret skins are actually secret and there not collab skins and if we do this since epic is so used to getting money once they start losing money they’ll give us what they want

I do just want to say one thing, they did not abandon progressive styles. In chpt 2 sea 3, the eternal knight skin from that season did have the progression. But, they did get rid of it from the on.
It makes me so incredibly sad how many icon emotes run the game now, I miss the creativity that Fortnite had when it came to making emotes. Yea some of the dances were inspired, but the music was always original, and had its own charm

Here's a different take: The lack of emotes isn't because it's a difficult element to add, but instead might be either a creative decision or a technical limitation. Creatively, they may want to spend more development on their Lego elements and vehicles at the cost of traditional assets. This is especially true if they see their "future" behind those elements. On a technical level, I'm not sure if they have incurred any technical debt over the years that prevents them from loading up all the different combinations of emotes that a player can have within each match. This might be true if there are more gameplay mechanics that are a bit more taxing than others, from a computer hardware resource management point of view. In other words, it would be hard to "fix" their problem as the audience if we don't understand the logic behind their decision. This take applies to all the fun concepts that you brought up. They are good ideas that might have their costs and tradeoffs.

If you bought an older battle pass you couldnt get the Vbucks out of it
Super styles(not the omega lights or upgrades to a skin) would be locked out
and the people who had it og would get some additional style like with skull trooper and Ghoul Trooper
That way the people who originally had it would still be "og"
while at the same time letting people use the older cosmetics as a new player
There was a large time were I played then stopped and now getting back into it again I missed out on a lot of cool skins and other stuff bring old battle passes back isn’t a new concept people have wanted this for a while. It’s funny seeing them overcharge for literally an edit style for a skin (Look at Ariana Grandes skins) when they could just allow people to buy old battle passes or the cosmetics from it. It’s just weird seeing them do very greedy stuff then not do the thing that will make them the most money and it’s consumer friendly.
Here's my suggestion, add a story mode to the game and attach previous battle passes to that. That way, you satisfy the entire fanbase cause you still have to work for the skins in those passes. I was a season late to get the seven skins and i want a chance to try getting them by working on q really hard quest. Like land at a risky real location guarded by really tough NPC's and try to survive long enough to get thr chests. F**k exclusively. They're just skins and you don't have to sacrifice challenge.
What if instead of getting skins you got a special currency that allowed you to buy today and past battle pass items and skins? that way people wouldnt be frustrated with the skins they lost, you could make that currency expire so people wouldn't stack and would play the newer seasons
that would work but the only problem is: it would be HIGHLY disrespectful to those who purchased the pass during the time it was available + epic specifically said that battle pass items are exclusive to the pass, they might take a skin from the pass and remaster it but that’s it. If they go through with it then the player base will go insane and the battle pass would lose its value. I honestly would be pissed too if I bought a pass in 2018 and suddenly everyone else can buy it in 2024.
@@Wano-Kuno I don't think they should do this with regular skins, but with collabs yes But if they give the Original BP owners a new style or at least some kind of currency (which probably wouldn't work) for the collab skin, for example Superman is a popular character and it doesn't make sense to vault him forever, so they reskin them, because superhero skins have a million variations but skins like darth vader and doom guy aren't like that and they pretty much Don't have any other looks so it doesn't make sense to vault him forever, also they won't do something like this soon but at some point they would, maybe like 10 years later, but at all putting collaboration skins in battlepasses that would be gone forever isn't a good idea at all, I would still agree that those players who bought the original battlepass should keep their value because it would be considered "scam" and epic would face many lawsuits.

Lots of people are starting to point out how the older passes we're better recently. An as a long time player myslef i hafta agree.
The current battle passes super levels rewards dont fill very rewarding. Its just a level up not much else to it.
Im already level 140 an its not hard to level up daily either. 3 hours in festival gets you 4 to 5 levels, an battle royal an rocket racing dailies gets you another 2 easy, takes like a hour to do those 2.
So basically 7 levels a day. Easy. For 5 hours of play. Not hard.
then stop crying and accept it, u nostalgia mfs swear that chapter 1 was the best when it has the least amount of content, if u want mid battle passes that don't have anything then go play another game

Instead of just unlocking a super level skin alternative 3 times for the same skin, why not give the third one more optoins, like a added woth hat style or glasses on or off optoin or a different looking back bling super style varient or glider for that matter.
Theres much that can easily be done with the current rewards we get an they either stay the same or just get a little something extra to go with them. Makes them fill more rewarding.

Ive been playing the game since chapter 1 season 5 and have owned every battlepass since then, but i havent completed every battlepass i missed out on quite a lot, as an OG player (yes not as og as a season 1 or 2 player but still og since people gatekeep that as well) i always thought it was dumb to never bring the stuff back, i get its to make people play the game so they dont fear on missing out but if you bought the pass you should be able to complete it at any point, and a very simple fix to bring back battlepasses for people that missed out is give the people that got (and 100% conpleted) the skins when they where originally available exclusive styles to the skins like they did with skull trooper and ghoul trooper, like i have every chapter 1 skin maxed out save for season 9 and 10 so let people get the old passes and give me an exlcusive style to all the skins i maxed out like drift and ragnarok, the only people that hate the idea of bringing back old passes where kids at the time and people with nothing but free time to grind the game, also let me remind you most of the people that complain about this idea don't even wear the skins they are gatekeeping because they have hundreds of other skins in their locker, I can't tell you the last time I saw a chapter 1 skin running around
Like I get even that fix would upset people that bought the passes and got the skin but didn't max them out (like a lot of people with Omega) but at least they'd get the chance to finally max him out and people that maxed him out original would get a new color for him or something
