Her vocal coach said it best. Victoria sometimes struggled to find “her voice”, but when she did, she was awesome and had a very sultry sound. Shes always been my favorite because her vocals were so different.

She is quite good. I didn’t realize some part in some of those songs were her. I also like how she often provides the lower base tones to Emma’s higher notes. Always thought it was scary. We were robbed from hearing more of her with solos in more songs. Thank you for sharing this.

She did a lot of the lower harmony. In fact, she has the most vocals on a lot of the songs, especially Spice Up Your Life. She sings every part, even lower melody with Sporty (if your having a good time-if you know that you feel fine).

Victoria didn’t get to record wannabe with the other girls. However, when you hear the chorus they added her parts in. You clearly hear the distinction and without Victoria, that Spice Girl sound would be missing. They were all important.

Very true. She doesn’t need to have a great soloist vocal for close harmony… and harmony was the main feature of the Spice Girls’ sound. Whoever put them together originally did well, their voices blend really nicely. People /always/ underestimate the altos!

Victoria's voice is alto and sometimes base inorder to blend the groups singing
It's a hard notes too because if you are not good in it then there's no harmony in the group. It doesn't need to be all sopranos.

She was always the "alto" under emma singing the highest part especially when Mel C would do ad libs. Viva forever and the la's in spice up your life needed her for the chorus harmony. She also sung with mel c a lot to blend her voice into the harmonies. Shes slept on

@@ryansummer546 Oh come one we all know their charisma was their selling point, not their incredible vocals. They were bursting with personality and had catchy songs, but vocally they're average at best (only Mel C is above average).
Nobody said they're horrible, I mean they'd never make it into the group if they really couldn't sing at all, but let's be real and objective - they're far from the best vocalists in the music industry. But their X factor was probably the biggest ever and that's what made them so hugely popular.

You know what guys, those girls were great, but not being brilliant singers was one of the best things about them, because lots of girls could relate to that. They weren't goddesses, they were real! Real, funny and they didn't try to blend in with beauty standards. They were unique.

I think the volume of her mic was very low.
It’s just how vocals work. Higher notes are easier to hear. Vic was meant to add fullness to Emma’s higher pitch.

I think she got so overlooked bc she was pegged as the “hot” one. Being in higher stilettos, “looking sexy” instead of wild, etc made her a little boring to the camera. She got less attention than the Mels, Geri, and even Emma, bc she literally wasn’t kicking, flipping, and dipping all over the stage. She wasn’t dressed for it! 😂🤣 All the girls were equally talented in different ways, but she often carried them vocally!!

Was not a matter of being borring. She just had the other face of the beauty privilege, that is to say "she is pretty = she must be here for her look". However, yes, her vocals were essentials to the band, not because it carried songs but because it added another layer and make them richer.

Let's be honest- they were crap. BUT, they were fun and a very good marketing ploy for mainstream pop at the time.They each made millions out of it, so very well done to them.
I was a 19 yr old girl at the time when they bounced on the scene. I was working at Butlin's in Bognor Regis at the time. Every time a Redcoat took a kid on stage and asked them who their favourite music was, they said 'Spice Girls'. I'd never heard of them at the time. I soon did.
