Sony PLEASE - > Put an audio jack in the actual body (not the just the top handle). This would make the camera much more versatile for run-gun / gimble / compact use. PLUS - get that Touch AF finalized. You shouldn’t have to navigate physical buttons to access Touch AF.
Sony seriously need to change the WB feature so that it only scans the centre of the frame like on their mirrorless bodies. Insane they have it looking at the whole frame.
Thanks for the video! One of the first to watch as usual (= no audio inputs without a handle ... can't imagine anyone being happy with that. But overall - nice camera and another reason for Canon to enable external raw on C70 to help me make up my mind finally :D
fx9 to have 6k internal? also a one button push for s&q. maybe it already has it but those were more converns. to ba able to switch instantly to slow mo for doc.
Sony fx9 and a7siii owners should be worried... be very worried. Even though Fx6 is the video camera for me, two years is when I am planning to buy it. Patience, discipline, and required features of the camera are the way to invest in video cameras.
As an FX9 owner as well as a previous FS7 and FS5 owner I would hope that Sony would make 120 fps in 5K crop available on the FX9. I also own the A7SIII and in some shots its a better camera for us to use because of the 120fps slow-mo with autofocus. I loved the form factor of the FS5 but the image out of it did not compare to the FS7 and it didn't match well at all. Very interested to see if the FX6 will match well with FX9. Regardless I have already pre-ordered the FX6 here in Canada.
Suddenly those mini-XLRs on the C70 that everyone is complaining about don't look so bad, eh? :) FX6 looks great. C70 looks great. Pros and cons for each. Looks like I'll be banging my head against the wall for another couple of months trying to figure out which way to go.
If I'm ever on your side of the pond I'll be sure to rent from you guys, another great video! On the FX6, is it possible to output video simultaneously via both the HDMI and the SDI outputs at the same time? I am filming a one man film and I already have a Small HD monitor mounted on my FX6 camera connected via HDMI but I want to also connect another monitor out of the SDI port at the same time so that as the actor I can see my lighting changes. Hope that makes sense. If that won't work, what's the cheapest way to achieve this?
7:05 Its good that you mentioned that. After putting IBIS on all their Camera bodies Sony does not offer any good glass with IS. Even though these bodies are so light you still can't really handhold them without monopods. At least there is the gyro metadata feature
Really excited about this one. A7sIII noise reduction and strong sharpening really made things look terribly digital and reason why I stayed with my S1H.
Really bummed theres no 4k s35 mode. would really have been nice to have that fx9 feature in the smaller body, especially for those of us doing videography as well as cinematography and occasionally renting PL s35 glass. I guess you can't have it all.
Yes I know what you mean - but simply not possible due to full sensor being "only" 4k. It is kind of a bummer, since a lot of lenses are also being adapted to S35 format like the awesome Fujinon MKs or the PL glass you mentioned.
11:38 The monitor has a resolution of 1280x720 (a resolution of 0.92 megapixels). The official announcement video says that it has a resolution of 2.76 megapixels, meaning at least 1080p... : ua-cam.com/video/qv2eHXJqbIQ/v-deo.html Which one is it?
As an FX9 owner, do you think Sony will make a firmware update to make the FX9 compatible with CF-Express B cards? To my knowledge they are pin for pin the same as XQD cards. Surely the faster write speeds could open up some new frame rates or codecs ?
I think the limitation on FX9 is the sensor readout instead of the card speed. IMX410 can only do ff at around 40fps, and I don't think sony will do anything beyond what they promised which are 80%ff60p and s35 4k120p.
Thank you Brandon. I have the FS5 and I've spent 4 years editing out the horrible yellow green tinge out of everything. It is just awful in mixed lighting situations. Looking to sell everything and buy a Komodo. How does the FX6 compare?
As a Fx9 owner, I would be very sad to give up S35 4K It is very useful for all the marvelous Cine lenses, so many don’t have equivalent in FF. Photo lenses are just really not the same. I would be sad to work with a cumbersome DSLR like rig to get the camera on my shoulder and use a proper viewfinder. I would be disappointed to lose the advantages of down sampling, I would hate to rely on a fragile light lens mount. But dam, I’m so pist that this little baby camera can do 120 in 4K and output raw without the use of a Godzilla back. I think Sony did very good not to hold back some technologies just to protect their higher hand but older products. But, I really, really, hope they won’t let us down and implement for the Fx9: XAVC 480, some sort of 120 4K internal, maybe if they have to limited to S35 or a light codec and most of all they really need to offer us a small Vlock back adapter with raw output. And I mean small and well design, not done by their Godzilla designers. If they can make the Fx6 so well, they can also probably save the Fx9.
I ordered mine already, sadly not from CVP as I do not live in the UK. 2 things would make this the Ultimate camera for my requirements. A Sony or 3rd party Multi-Pin Adapter to connect to the Body, after the handle is removed, to allow audio input to a Gimbal mounted stripped down camera as suggested by "Dale Snood", I hope I got his name correct, at the end of his Review on the Vistek Channel coming out of Canada.I highly recommend his review as it is more upbeat than some of his fellow countrymen I could mention;) I suspect Sony own some Patent which may mean a Sony adapter which would require the donation of a vital Organ in order to pay for it! Secondly 4K in Super 35mm (Firmware update!?) If they could only persuade the designers of the Canon or the Blackmagic menu system with vast amounts of lolly to come and work for Sony then there wouldn't be much to beat it :)
Can you put a SDI monitor while still having an image in the internal monitor of the camera while recording? And is the image in sync ? ( unlike the FS5) Thanks for the movie
The only downside with this camera is that there is no audio ports on the body, can only record externally which can be a bummer for run and gun events
Great review, no question, the FX6 is a great cam and maybe my next 🎥, but why is there no object focus tracking at the FX6? That would be so important and the A7 s3 can do it 🥴🤔 i hope there will next be a firmware update 👍🏻 best cinematic greetings from a small german filmmaker
Why can I record 4K ALL-I 400MBPS to a v60 sdcard on my GH5, and to record Sony's 4K ALL-I 24p I'm forced to buy these super expensive cards? And by the way... isn't the 4K's bitrate @ 24p look a bit low, even in comparison to the good and old GH5?
On the a7s3, my understanding was that you only needed cf express A cards if you're shooting the all-I 4k 120 mode. SD cards should be fine for 24p I think
To me, one feature Sony could add to the FX9 would be a way to shoot "Open Gate" because as far as I know even with the RAW Output you can only record in 4K (by the way how is the RAW Output doing that ? Is that a 4K Crop which seems logical or is it a "non true raw" output ?) so 6K recording of sort could be interesting.
You mention all these high level things but don't say something very basic like how to shoot video and then review it on the camera screen. There is nothing on the camera that shows how to review what you shot. For beginners like me....I got stuck. No information about this anywhere. All you people just keep babbling about codecs, formats, dynamic range, etc. But no basic information how to use the damn thing....
Sony literally just robbed FX9 owners. They better at 6k/30p, 4k 120 and 1080/240 to the fx9. Who in the world would buy the FX9 over the fx6. You also can record raw through Sdi right through the camera on the fx6. With the FX9 you have to buy the extension unit that cost $2,500 and makes the camera bigger and bulkier. The fx6 clear is a better low light camera with 800 base iso and 12,800 dual native iso. FX9 only goes to 4,000. Another thing nobody talks about is the FX9 loses AF when shooting in any S&Q modes. From what I’m seeing is you can still have AF when shooting in any frame rate on the fx6 which I could be wrong. The fx6 is a fraction size of the fx9. Meaning more like to fit most stabilizers. I own the FX9 and it’s a nightmare to set it up on the Ronin 2, way too heavy and takes way too much time to set up. I can go on and on. I guess Sony looks at the advantages of the FX9 over the fx6 as being worth $5,000 more. But, trust is the fx6 advantages over the FX9 would make the fx6 worth $5,000 more than the FX9 and its half the price of the FX9. What in the world are they thinking. FX9 also just came out with a update which unlocked 1080 180fps and 4k 60fps so I doubt they will come out with yet another update BUT THEY BETTER! I honestly don’t think they care about FX9 owners and how they got screwed. I think their most concerned with losing the market to Canon, RED or Black Magic. 🤦🏼♂️ definitely got scammed by Sony.
Unfortunately I think a mark ii is on the horizon & if that’s the case surely mark i owners should be offered a generous buyback/trade in. The pandemic has definitely shifted the landscape
@@vieiraproductions44 Well, the Fs5 came out at exactly the same space in time after FS7, as the FX6 was announced from the FX9. Within 1 year of eachother. So to me, it looks like Sony may be following a pattern for their releases. If there is in fact an FX9II coming, I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if we saw it towards the beginning of Q4 in 2021, pretty much 2 years after the FX9 was announced. Fs7 was announced in Q4 of 2014, and Fs7II around the same time in 2016. My goal is to get the FX6 now, and then get the FX9II if and when it is announced. But I do agree, that Sony should offer some sort of buy back or trade in program if this does end up being the case. Given the fact that the FX9 is using the same processor chipset of the FS7, I wouldn't be surprised if the FX9II had something similar to the chipset used in the FX6, if not better. But this is all speculation.
There are some major differnces between the FX6 and the KOMODO that mean they both come down to an end users needs, not just a simple win loss recommendation. Jake
Higher frame rates are something people do wish the KOMODO did slightly better, however it does do lots of things right that other cameras in it's price point do not. Jake

FX6 looks great. C70 looks great. Pros and cons for each. Looks like I'll be banging my head against the wall for another couple of months trying to figure out which way to go.
The stronger codecs sway me towards the FX6, plus the body shape will be nicer for rigging out, no vmount power option for the C70, etc.
