  • Oyster Yachts have a reputation for building , fast, safe and luxurious sailing boats to take families around the world.
In the first of this series, reviewing the Worlds best cruising Yachts, we take a look at the 2022 Oyster 595. Designed from the keel up, this beautiful craft is designed to be sailed short handed or with crew.
This series will take a look at different Yachts at different price points highlighting the differences in design, price and suitability for the purpose for which they were designed.
Also in the series we have the Classic Rustler 44, the Moody 41 DS, Hanse, Dehler, Arcona, Discovery, and many more.
While it is not a full list of cruising yachts available, it is a good first look at what is available and will be added to over the years.

Beautiful yacht. Stuffs of dream for all but reality for most who can afford such luxury. $4-5 million is alot of 💰.😄. But if I do happen to win the lottery, I think the Garcia explorer 52 is the monohull for me. A boat that can go anyway. The Garcia 52 catamaran for more space. Great video Nick. Always enjoy these. Keep making them. Thanks. Will

For a $5M 60ft. sailboat I would expect it to include:
    1. An AI system to monitor the wind and sea state to automatically adjust sails to maximize safety and speed.
    2. A robot servant to clean the boat, cook perfect meals, give massages and perform boat maintenance.
    3. Advanced sonar and lasers to monitor ahead and below to protect itself.
    4. A giant android to defend against attacking pirate ships.

Although quit impressive; I think that if I was to win the lottery I’d buy a motor yacht because the thought of wrangling with sails at 3 am in the morning with 30 plus knots of wind and sea states in at around 6 plus feet doesn’t sound appealing.

Your review here is so outstanding, love the slow panning of the camera. I hope Oyster is paying you for this boat tour because they bloody should. Excellent review. The only problem with this boat is that a 60-foot cat in the same price range, is just so much more boat for the money. You can get a 10 year old super yacht for 10 million dollars Is this mono value for money, Don't think so at all. Here you are paying for top notch workmanship. Id prefer Bayliner quality for only 1 million dollars LOL.

It's certainly a very nice boat, but I have a hard time understanding why I should not buy instead an Amel 60 or Garcia 60? They cost about half the price, offer just as much luxury, an amazing track record for blue water cruising, great performance with probably more safety (clearly so with the GaRcia) and just as much sailing credentials?
Looking at cats, an Garcia Explocat 52 or Outremer also seem to offer a lot more for the money.

I'm underwhelmed for $4M. Two years ago, an Oyster 565 was around $1.8M, so prices have skyrocketed. I think the biggest thing going for Oyster is being able to join a world Oyster rally; seems like an awesome experience. I was more impressed by the Passport, 615 and 545, than the Oyster 575, last year in Annapolis. The Rustler 57 is more to my liking, or even better, the Friendship 65, would get my 'bling'.

In truth think it’s a bit boring. The problem is these particular proportions have reached a point of diminishing returns with respect to conviviality and function at the listed price point mentioned. It’’s purely an exercise of scale that does not compete well when you consider the market and other niche sectors such as high end trimarans. It’s just a stretched limo that will appeal no doubt to brand junkies who don’t mind burning a million the very next day in depreciation. High time Oyster went outside the box a little or commissioned a new design house to give us something different.

I had a tour of an 885 a few years back. This 595 looks pretty much the same just smaller. A real pocket luxury superyacht. Great job Nick as usual on the tour. Imagine us all sitting in that boat indeed. There’s enough seats to watch the original motion picture of Superman. You could see 6000 people in this boat. It’s almost like the people who designed this boat we’re imagining that you were going to cruise the world with a football stadium full of people. Let’s say you went with six people. You would not need this much seating. How was it that they can’t come up with anything else as a design then seats? It seems to me that they’re hoping that the 6000 people that will be on this boat will really enjoy sitting down. lol

Between you & Matt Sheehan- I'd never know that Oysters used to be sailing boats. Rustler has stayed closer to its DNA than Oyster. I like the larger, higher end vessels working order (i.e. engine room, electric layouts, H2O line planning, orginization, etc...), but- a boat than has only square rooms exceeds my yachting desires...

I really can't see $4m to $5m value in this boat at all. It's ok but its not stunning. Compared to RR2 (I know they are apples and pears) for price and offering it's poor value ie 4 x more than RR2 which will heel way less and is way faster and is still nicely furnished and finished and spacious. If I ever have the money, which I plan to do, I would buy an RR2 and bank $3m. Well done Nick and Terysa for producing these videos as a clever stop gap till RR2 is built. A couple months later, on the HR 40, you go into a very long tirade about the uselessness and environmentally questionable choice of teak on the deck. Yet here, with acres more, it does not appear worthwhile mentioning. Ditto the shiny the cockpit table and the wide transom that allows for that humongous aft cabin that you admire so much. Why are these problems on a HR 40 but not on a Oyster 59?

If I won the lotto it would be a difficult choice between the Oyster 595 and the Amel 50. Amel has the industry beat in safety hands down but Oyster has everybody beat in quality and comfort unless you are taking serious custom boat builds. I digress we are taking about production boats here right. My main concern is the protection of the helm on passage. We all know the weather is unpredictable and Mother Nature can throw a serious storm in the middle of passage and on the 595 you are exposed. Amel has the helm protected under an integrated hard top/dodger that isn't an extra option. Neither brand has done a review on the electrical system like the Hylas 57, it can go full load for 12 hours on batteries. What are the creature comfort loads sustainable under the batteries for Oyster 595? How often do you have to charge while on the hook in tropical areas? Myself I'm not sleeping in hot and humid climates without air-conditioning I'll only need the master cabin AC. I want to drink my sundowner hang out in the cockpit until about close to midnight then retire to my cabin in climate controlled comfort without generator noise. Don't mind starting the genset in the morning, heck I like a hot sower first thing anyway and hot water is the perfect parasitic load on a generator. What about refrigeration options? An Atlantic crossing can take from as little as 14 day to 24 days. That's a lot of food if you want to eat more than canned goods toward the end of passage. Myself I'd prepare a lot of premade meals and freeze them so they could me microwaved and served. Not going to attempt cooking underway going across the Atlantic with a 4 person crew.

Love your work, the filming is amazing. Your technical and scientific approach is what I appreciate the most, best I have ever seen. BUT I watched all your videos on your catamaran analysis and scorecard. You torched boats that did not have a forward facing helm (you did gently mix in how this boat was not your preference) or protected helm (you trashed Excess and they had a little though crappy protection), there is not a worse helm in all the boats you reviewed. This boat looks almost like everything you do not want on your new Seawind. Air flow looked poor compared to the cats which T focused on. According to your scorecard (which I think is an EXCELLENT system) I would assume you give this boat around 25 points? I did not see you point out the life raft but maybe I missed it. I missed the steering system, and does this mean you like in mast furling? You did say softly this is not the boat for you but I was expecting you to trash the areas you do not like. I miss that guy with his strong opinions, can we get him back? :) Still a big fan of you guys.

This boat is almost certainly equipped with a fabric bimini that covers the entirety of the cockpit. In the very unlikely chance it isn't, it's absolutely an option, either at commission or added later.
The vast majority of monohulls do not have a hard bimini, due to the increased windage. It's preferable to have one that folds away, if the need arises.

My issue with this BEAUTIFUL boat is that it just isnt a true ocean cruiser in the way Oyster push it to the world as being - for one thing twin rudders, out of line with the keel is crazy - they only point true when the boat is on a serious heel, which a cruiser likes to avoid because its bloody uncomfortable!. Its a racing innovation, from the very wide racing vessels that lost steering on the plane. Blue water cruisers don't plane BUT the twin rudders mean you can build boats with huge butts, big cockpits and aft cabins, and you throw in the twin rudders to compensate and point at Volvo racers, to cover for the performance compromise you have had to make. Its wrong and as soon as you do that, your not in a safe true blue water cruiser. The other problem is the keel, and Oyster's have suffered this problem with at least one tragic fail. If I'm spending $3,000,000 on a boat, I don't want a keel that might drop off and bolted on keels can, and more often than we realize, do drop off - including Oyster Keels in the famous case of Polina Star - which was blamed on poor lamination. BUT an incapsulated keel will not drop off...not ever. I mean, these things cost MILLIONS. if it were me, I'd look at a Hallberg-Rassy, Hylas and for sure Kraken. Oysters are STUNNING, built to perfection, but I would not circumnavigate in one.

I didn't know there even existed sailboats with electric sail control. I've generally assumed that my family will need a power boat for liveaboard use, because we're none of us young or fully healthy, and we can't count on being able to do all the physical work that goes into running a sailboat every day. Something like this one, we might be able to handle.
All that said, for less than $2 million you can buy Steve and Linda Dashew's own _Beowulf_ (still for sale last I checked, at an asking price of $1,750,000). If I were looking for a gorgeous, luxurious circumnavigating liveaboard (which I am) and price was no object (which, alas, it is), I would probably go for that one. Some of what they've done to improve every conceivable function on that boat is simply unreal.

Oyster, Halberg-Rassy, Swan - These are amongst the finest fiberglass and composite sailing yachts in the world and, yes, they are expensive. I believe that you will also be reviewing a Hanse and a Moody (an upscale Hanse) which are less expensive but, of course, they are less luxurious and, IMO, won't perform as well. The Dutch build stunning steel and aluminium boats. An example is KM who (probably) builds the finest expedition sailing yachts in the world (one is the legendary "Vinson of Antarctica" about which a LOT has been written).

If I won the lottery, would I buy this sailing yacht? No. I am not a sailor, I do not have the experience sailing. Could this be run by one person and a paid crewmember? Undoubtedly. BUT, for ME, watching your videos over the past few years and then watching Jason and Nicki and Keith and Renee and family, no. For the money for this boat, I purchase a Privilege 580, and save a substantial amount of money. Spec'd out the way I was looking at the 580, it's $3M USD, and then a little bit more for certain fabrics. Making the changes I want, probably $3.5M USD. More cabins, more space, no heeling and rolling when under said. But, I would assume that sailing a Privilege 580 with two people isn't that much different than sailing a 1260 or 1370 Seawind for two people.
My two cents. I kind of feel like Keith when he says he doesn't like the sailing aspect of sailing, it's the 'sailing TO' that he enjoys.
