Larrivee guitars are well made owned one for about 10 or so years. My friend did five albums with it including James Taylor swipe it from him without asking before going on stage doing a entire set with it. James gave it back to him and told him it was the real deal and he was going to steal it one day,, lol! Thanks!

I own a 00-40 which is pretty close to the most affordable guitar Larrivee makes. The T-40 is almost the same guitar. Brand new you're looking at $2500ish. I'm not sure beginners would, or even should, spend that much on a first guitar and I'm not sure after spending $2500 you'd want to take it on a backpacking trip.
Larrivee guitars are special and I love them. But for a first guitar beginner, or something you will expose to the abuse of a hiking trip or the like, I'd suggest a guitar under $1000. Larrivee doesn't make guitars in that range new, however you can sometimes find used in that range. If you do buy used check it out thoroughly or have an expert check it out for you. Used acoustic guitars commonly have cracks or other issues from lack of proper care such as proper humidity.
To find more affordable beginner guitars do a search. There are plenty in that range from very reputable companies.
Again dont get me wrong Larrivees are one of my favorite brands, but I wouldn't market them as beginners guitars or travel guitars.
