Everytime I listen to this song I always think to myself “I wish I could listen to this part forever” usually followed by me rewinding to the part just before the solo several times before calling it quits. You’re a hero

The absolute best tune to ever pulsate my ear drums. I have been a Zappadite for 50+years and a pedal steel fan as long!
This Sneaky Pete solo blows the fuck out of the whole world of country steel players!
Talk about CONCEPTUAL CONTINUETY!

Reading all these comments brought me to tears. I'm grateful FZ and I were alive at the same time...
Very well said, and mega- ditto !
He's a light in the darkness. The few who cares are standing in the light so they can touch you brother
Frank Zappa would have scorned your sentimental crap, especially these tears (would have reminded him instantly of Swaggart).
I'll bet you're the life of the party.@@user-yp2mw2ko9k
@@user-yp2mw2ko9k Tiny, sick tears?
The IRS needs this for their phone hold music-- I wouldn't mind waiting 58 minutes for the wrong person to answer and then put me back on hold.
That's a great comment, in the UK we need this music for our power companies!
😂 haha.. And in Germany it would be the biggest pleasure to wait for someone of Rentenversicherung (Pension insurance) at the phone 😅
Ha HA! One of the best among many wonderful comments. Bravo! Your suggestion would really take the edge off this $@%# planet ;-)
You nailed it.
OMMMMGGG I cannot believe this exists!!! When I first heard this in the 90's I was like, I wish this part would go on for an hour. Thank You!!!

I am 58 years old and of course I know Zappa. I for some very strange reason thought most of his music is just a bit too weird for my taste.
*Update *
How oddly wrong I was! In just the last couple of days I have listened to a lot of his music and I am turning into a complete Zappa Freak... Great music!
The great infection spreads further.
His music grows on you. I hated Billy the Mountain when it came out in '72. I love it now. That shows that Zappa's music is eternal. I like the Playground Psychotic version the best. Especially around 20 minute mark where the keyboard starts the solo and Aynsley does a great job of drumming. Starts slow and increases with intensity. Aynsley drummed on this song too.
for the first time, this solo is as long as I've always wanted it to be
Sneaky Pete Kleinow of the Flying Burrito Brothers!
Missed the chance to see the Broadway tour, never thought it would be his last. Went to see zpz, and all i can say is,, is, Frank would be proud and appreciate Dweezils dedication and talent, and his keeping Franks music live, because that's what it's all about. 😊
If I could loop the Slide solo over and over I would, Owner of album since 1978,
Perfect Saturday morning wake and bake sunrise service!!
Most definitely!🤘
If you listen closely you can hear a slide guitar solo.
Oops I must overheard that... where is it?
Possibly my favorite solo, on any instrument, in any kind of music. My favorite Zappa album, too, and I started with the Verve releases in the 60s. Thanks for looping me into bliss, nailheadparty. To the thumbs down listeners, may the offspring of a thousand spiders infest your underwear.
Couldn’t agree more about Waka / Jawaka, and this is a great track which includes Zappa’s collage technique as different sections cut to each other. And yeah, that’s an incredible solo, but it’s not Frank playing, which may put a lot of fans off. Personally I think he could have collaborated more - having confident musicians involved softens some of Frank’s rough edges.
I have to say though, looping through the solo over and over kills any of the magic coming out of the transitions between sections.
Yeah, obviously not Zappa on the steel solo. That's "Sneaky Pete" Kleinow. I probably won't listen to this again, but I sure enjoyed the novelty of it. Time to spin the album for the thousandth time.
@@SmileyLovesMusic the contrast with Zappa’s style is clear, but I think Pete impersonates Frank at times, and it’s really interesting to think that Frank appreciated his playing, even though it’s from the ‘straight’ world that he was often critical of.
I can't imagine anti-drug FZ, co-founder of Straight Records, bringing Kleinow in on a session if he didn't appreciate his playing. Sneaky Pete had been a fixture in LA as long as Frank. They probably influenced each other.
@@SmileyLovesMusic I didn’t mean ‘straight’ in the drug-free sense, more to say ‘conventional’.
Just one of the.many creative reasons why Zappa and his music will live for ever. Pure genius lives outside classification.
I understand the idea your thoughtful comment represents and agree w/the spirit of your intention. That being said, given enough time and consideration, even FZ's prolific and multi-genre output can indeed be classified in a number of meaningful ways for a number of purposes including edification, marketing and having fun coming up with new terms to describe a myriad of Zappa joints and tracks that already hold various labels and are classified as falling into one or more genres. But again, I get it, and the spirit of your thesis (that "pure" genius, perhaps as opposed to tainted genius(?), and the works of said genius defy easy classification, at least in terms of disciplines like music where opinion, personal taste and even caprice are involved. In a larger sense, genius can be classified in a number of ways as can said genius' output be it in the sciences or humanities (although in some cases less so in the later which I believe is part of your point). Excuse me, I'm just being a smartass for no good reason even if technically I've made solid assertions. Your statement and its meaning are well-intentioned and speak to the musical savant-level abilities and output of Zappa & his many phenomenal co-musicians and their amazing music defying easy classification as it's so very "uber". Apologies.
I. Just found this! What a wonderful day its going to be😊
Been going back to this song often, the slide guitar is mesmerising, I think i read it's 1 of the flying beurito brothers, has a Garcia vibe, beautiful 👌
Miss Frank so much when I hear this!
Frank Zappa isn't dead. He's in my heart & head, found harmony in dreams and comes and goes it seems. That's freedom on a plate, you can sate if you wait, or wend and weave not grieve, for the Earth our worth mirth, or surf the waves in staves...
Thank you for that!! Bravo!
Must cry from happiness😭
How many times did we feel like continuing to slide in the middle of this fabulous sound? Here it is-. Thanks. Great Zappa :)
This solo is the best in all of zappas repertoire. And when I knew it was not played by zappa, I was fascinated to know who the player was... Id love to see it played live one day. I mean, someone playing it
@SoftserveSodium I'll check them out! I am a Zappa fan but I have much to learn.
His name is Sneaky Pete Kleinow.
Read my mind. I love the guitar. . . Don't even mind it being looped for an hour.
Did that hour pass that quickly?
It's easy to reflect on Gumby n' Pokey episodes while listening to Pete's solo....... he was the guy who moved the characters in the frame-by-frame shots...... man had shiploads of talent.
(Edit): Thanks for doing this homage to this solo...... I've done just that on this and many most beloved percussion solos in salsa bands like Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, Poncho Sanchez (Ramon Banda's timbale solos), Chepito Areas' solos in Santana songs, and also piano montuno vamps I love to jam over :)
He also wrote the theme song to the show.
I made a 20 minute edit of this for my self years ago and played in on loop endlessly - I never get tired of it! well done mate - now I can send it to peeps ! ZAPPA FOREVER !!
This is so great , so light and flowing. Just fucking pleasant on a sunny fall morning..
Similar chords as Knocking on Heaven's Door, but a more uplifting sound! This is like we've entered heaven. 1hr 19m seems a little short, but I can replay!
I was never going to bother myself, but glad someone did - ta!
The sweet slide guitar and clean editing have raised this album up another notch, when it and all FZ albums were already on a very high peg!
Sneaky Pete’s solo here definitely has a very Zappa-esque feel to it.
Amazing, who didn’t wish the solo was longer. Thank you.
Thank you, I never knew sneaky Pete played with Frank. Its awesome
Este solo me hace llorar de pura felicidad!!!!
Wow. Just WOW ! Been listening for nearly an hour. Dig it.
Do it again !!!
Dream come true. Bravo.
In similar cheerful fashion and just as sweet are the keyboard solos of David Sinclair on the title track of Caravan's "In the Land of Grey and Pink" album. Just saying.
On a personal note: Late 1993 or early 1994. I'd heard of Zappa's name, but none of his work. After he passed away, chanced upon "Peaches en Regalia" on _(strange, but)_ MTV. Surely, head over heels in love at first hearing. After "Hot Rats", "Waka/Jawaka" was my second Zappa album. As well stated by many viewers here, I wished Kleinow's solo would never end. It seems that in life without internet and less toxic congestion, people used to listen to music properly and spared time to discover, appreciate delicate matter. --Waving from Istanbul.
Funny you should mention Caravan - they're on my suggestions! I think In the Land of the Grey and Pink song has a similar vibe. I don't think there's a loop of the piano/organ solos as yet :D
greetings Istanbul!
It's so easy to love this piece,it flows freely to the sweet spot. My eternal thanks for this.
Awesome!!! Since i heard for the first time this song, i tried to find something like this marvelous solo....now you dude, provides 1:29 hour of it/! Tks for eternity!!!
Made breakfast to this everyone happy for an hour Thanks 🤟🎼🤟
This is like finding your favourite food at an all you can eat buffet - now I am stuffed and maybe won't eat this again for a long time! Cheers
Exactly. Could never get enough before & been craving this for 40 years, but had to fade it after 1/2 hour…my earwig exacerbated so much I was starting to get a stomach ache.
I was full, but ended up looping the video, so going to be quite overweight :D
had insane ups and downs on this in my past years, very grateful
Anysley Dunbar on drums
The only thing that looped more than the song were the posts right here. Caught it.
Excellent!
Thank you, the times I've turned the volume up to 11 wanting to squeeze the last note out of this wonderful solo !!
Totally agree! This one asks for 11 ! ua-cam.com/video/4xgx4k83zzc/v-deo.html
Thank you thank you! After 40 years of feeling briefly entranced, long term earwigged & mystified by the studio versions outro I cameto listen once again again (Segue from my T heads revival & the similarly savant brilliance of the pedal steel on naked’s track totally nude) When I saw extended edit and thought could it be? could it possibly be?
I always suspected there just wasn’t more to it, and my response to the studio versions outro was normal. all just another product of FZs absolute humor, brilliance, mastery & mind control.
To the commenters looking for more sneaky Pete I’m not sure if it’s him or not but dig deep on some Steely Dan for some wonderful ps sounds & let’s never forget the good ol’ Grateful Dead
I am nominating the editor of this video for an Academy Award for best motion picture editing...
Awards due, indeed
i actually have an IMDb credit for cinematography as well. thank you my brother 🙏
I play a Fender 400 set up like Pete's that he helped me with (although I can't get close to his touch, tone or talent) - and never knew there was an extended version of the solo. One of my favorite parts is Pete's "total chaos" transition into the next cut...
Thanks SO much for posting this!
to be fair it's not a "real" extended version as in an artefact produced by FZ or anyone connected with him, but a strictly unauthorised fan edit by me. wouldn't want to steal valour by presenting it as official. wasn't Pete great though.
That solo could well be on "Knocking On Heaven's Door". Anyone's noticed that? Wondering if that means Frank wrote the tune a year before Bob.
I wanted it. You did it.
This needed to be done. Thank you.
A giant of xx century
Thank you so freaking much!!!! When ever I listen to this, one of my favorite solos on any instrument, I wish it would be an hour long! You made my day!!! Sneaky Pete was the best!!!
It's fun to sing the chorus of "Bittersweet Surrender" by Bighead Todd & the Monsters over this pedal steel solo
Love this.
Excellentissimo
FZ, the Best!!
Merci beaucoup, infiniment, j'ai plus les mots
THE ONE AND THE ONLY YES THO GREATEST FRANK ZAPPA YES SR
so nice
Always loved this song. Like a tootsie pop you must lick through a minute and half of hard candy to get to the chewy sweet inside which always went away to fast. Now I can chew on that lovely melody for an hour!! Beautiful and I love it!!
No mere words can describe this masterpiece 😍 👌 💜
Excellent work.
This reminds me of the solo in Penguin in Bondage at Roxy & Elsewhere. The beginning and end of the solo are similar, almost recursive in character.
GOOD EDIT
a drug for me
Bellissimo! Grazie!
FZ the best!
Thank you
Makes a real fun jam along :)
❤it
And not only is it a great lead, Sneaky Pete was also involved with the character, Gumby. And Pokey too. And of course the Flying Burrito Bros.
Me too guys!
That music is as great and nice as nature🎸
Nice!!!
I'm son of... the best pizzicado of all laughing and happy people . I miss their love to their father .
One of FZ’s only compositions seasoned with a country garnish! I love this tasteful ear dish!
Harder than Your Husband; Lonesome Cowboy Burt;and something about a truck driver taking string beans to Utah are the only others I can think of off-hand.
@@judychurley6623 thank you.... I stand corrected!
@@judychurley6623 "Rhymin' Man" off Broadway the Hard Way too
Didn't he do a Johnny Cash tune on the 1988 big band double CD? Ring of Fire with Bobby doing an impersonation of Johnny I think.
@@markducharme9518 I believe you are correct. Johnny Cash was supposed to be there but wasn’t, so someone from the band played/sang the part.
❤❤
Haha, great idea, nice job, bizarre reprise 209+, that's a good one! I do the same in other ways when I find just a part of music very interesting!
To be honest, this pedal steel came to my notice also when I heard this song first time and after. Thank you for honoring "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow's contribution to the Zappa music universe!
Aynsley Dunbar played with so many bands but I'd have to say he learned as he played with FZ~!
I think everyone learned from Frank- whether they admit it or not.
@@markducharme9518 it was said that anyone could join the Mothers & get paid as long as they play Frank's music or you are out of here. They come & go just like streetcars. I believe the musicians sat wondering what they'll need to play next & learn it like Zappa taught it. You were fucked if you could not read music & I remain amazed of how composing came to FZ naturally~!
@@davetrent8612 a lot of zappa’s musicians actually didn’t read music
@@martinusdegrootste I have no doubts about that after seeing how well-shaven they were ~ lol. The most memorable Zappa concert I've been to was in a very old Mosque Theater with balcony suites etc. On the left side of the stage was 2 Lawrence Welk style podiums (bass & guitar) with FZ initials & on the right side was a 4-piece horn section. Frank Zappa stood center with his Gibson guitar around his neck with a microphone & a music sheet stand. He turned his back to the audience many times to formally conduct his band. He was only paused to turn a page. I never expected that at all. Hots Rats was on the plate that evening. I must say You have a very good point & I wished every FZ fan could've seen this show.
One of my favorite Zappa drummers. Dunbar turned down an earlier group. Something . . . Led Zeppelin. They offered him the gig but Zappa was in his future.
Mais c'est incroyable ! j'y crois pas.
Nice pedal steel guitar work.
If the froggy come up
A--with his satchel in his hand,
Then he reach in the front
And dump a mile of sand
Across the rug, along the hall
Up to the umbrella stand
That you've been watchin' all the time
Watchin' all the time
And if a forest grows up
From the dirt on the floor,
That the frog with the satchel
Had just dumped beside the door
You're just startin' to get worried,
You ain't going out no more
And it's confusin' to your mind--
Just consider this:
You can be scared when it gets too real
You can be scared when it gets too real
But you should be diggin' it
While it's happening
(Yes! You should be diggin' it while it's happening!)
'Cause it just might be a one-shot deal
You can be lost
And you can wanna be found
But keep an eye on that frog
Whenever he jump around
Just keep a--watchin' him
You oughta be watchin' him
Just keep a--watchin' him
You wanna be askin' him
(And see if he's brought along a little bag for you, rant!)
Zappa was so good at finding and using talent.
This has always been one of those tasty solo's that Frank wrote. Theme from Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Guitar and Low Budget Orchestra. And I can name 356 more. How about Stucco Homes. Oh and Sneaky Pete was also a special effects artist. If you ever saw Gumby on TV that was probably ole Pete.
this is not a Frank solo
You should be diggin' it while its happening.
Jammie .......

Road trip, has a Gerry Garcia tone with Sneaky Pete the pedal steel. Would of swore there was a violin. Nice post thx
Jerry did do the slide guitar for CS&N. I believe it was, "Teach your Children Well".

Does anyone know who specifically sings vocals on the second verse? The one with the accent.
lead male vox are Sal Marquez, female vox are Janet Ferguson. back-ups by Jeff Simmons, Tony Duran, and Erroneous (Alex Dmochowski)
actually thinking about it again, the accented part might well be Dmochowski
