first start LS v8 swapped 06 monte carlo fwd to rwd conversion project frankenstien 20

- first start for the LS v8 swap monte. this is the 20th vid of project frankenstien. we start with an 06 montecarlo that is front wheel drive. it is to become rear wheel drive, via an aluminum block 5.3 ls, backed by a 4l80e transmission, and a 8.8 mustang rear axle. see how we do it in this vid, follow along as we go through the process of going from wrong wheel drive to right wheel drive. from v6 to v8 it can only get better! the future might include nitrous, a turbocharger, and possibly a 6.0 or 6.2 LSX for more power. plans are to run it at the local drag strip once it is finished, hopefully thats sooner than later.
similar years of these w body cars are 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007, pontiac grand prix, Chevrolet Impala / Impala Limited, Buick LaCrosse / Allure.

Man that’s so .... badass... speechless man. I really want to do this to my first ever car. 2006 Chevy impala lt, I want to put an LQ9 6.0 in mine seeing your build. Anything’s possible
anything can be done, all it takes is time and money, thanks for watching man :)
You did it brother !!!
thanks
Damn I just wish I had the money to do that how much did cost and how much hp u have now after doing all that
My dude plz tell me how PLZZZZZZZZ
there is a playlist of the build, seeing is believing, lol
WHAT'S THE PRICE TAG I'M THINKING OF DOING IT WITH MY SS INTIMIDATOR
How did you make it rwd I have the same body style and I can't do anything with it so I wanted to make a race car I can fab and all that just need to know how to go about going in on it
the whole build is on here, i have a playlist on it.
Thanks I appreciate it this is going to be a bad ass new journey for me that for sure
Currently trying to do this can I ask what steering rack you used
mustang, the whole build is on here if you need any info on what we used, thanks for watching
Love it what a cool conversion. Miss your interior cold starts of all your other carbureted beasts though
thanks, got a few cold starts coming up :)
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 can’t wait! Love the interior ones where you show us what you’re doing with the gas pedal. So cool! Love your channel
@@gearhead9943 thanks
Sounds mean 🤘
thanks
How much did this end up costing?
Do you have any info or sources on how to switch the drivetrain?? I’ve always wanted to buy a 6th gen but the FWD always intimidated me, so seeing this video really inspired me but Idk where to start 🤷🏻♂️
the whole build is on here. i have a playlist of it.
When's The Burnout!!!🤔
its on here, check out my other vids
Did the motor just go in or did u have to fabricate some stuff to make it fit
lots of fabrication
Shit glad to see it worked!!!!
yeah, but not 100 % done. still have some steering issues to conquer, before its driveable, at least above 5 mph, LOL
Lol Ik I don’t see a ElCo Just sitting, what dat a 82 ?
78?
the elco's are my brothers. white one is a 82. the black one is a 78
This project is so inspiring. I can't wait to do this kind of swap in my W-body. I took a look at the front 'spindles' for your car, and I have no idea how it can move the wheels forward from swapping sides. The strut and lower ball joint alignment is dead center of the wheel bearing, so it shouldn't change at all, unless you swapped the lower control arms and mounts too?
it changes the turn radius only, the tires want to scrub when turning, still need to figure that out. have some ideas how to correct it but havent tried any yet.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 After much writing and then starting over, I have 2 'simple' solutions.
1) Keep the stock Monte rack and use a reverse gear box ( www.colemanracing.com/Reverse-Drive-Gear-Box-P6316.aspx ).
or
2) Measure the 'Stang steering rack travel compared to the stock Monte rack travel, and extend or shorten the spindle steering arm accordingly.
Personally I would choose the first simply because I wouldn't trust a steering arm that was welded/drilled. Also you know the stock parts and geometry is already there, and the gear box can be pivoted to your liking before mounting.
Just my humble thoughts :P
EDIT: or 3) Weld on bump stops for the spindle, as the amount of steering angle might be greater if the steering rack has a longer throw than stock, and I think that's what's happening.
@@bluebeast440 would have been best to keep it rear steer, but you cannot do that beings its now rwd. the rack is in the way of everything when its in the stock location. so it was moved to the front. we swapped spindles from side to side, that changed the position of the tie rods, and changed the turn radius, the inner tire, when you turn must always turn sharper than the outside tire, we have the outside tire turning sharper than the inside, that causes the tires to scrub and makes it not want to turn. best way to correct it would be with a factory front steer spindle, we have some in mind to use but have not tried any yet.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 Ah yes, I found in one of your vids how it's all lined up. or rather, misaligned. I guess without an oil pan or crankshaft you could line up the rack perfectly! LoL
From what I'm seeing, all you need is to make the tie rods an 's' shape that will cover any misalignment. The best part is you can still mount the tie rod end on top for more clearance.
I remember trucks having S shaped tie rod ends for reasons just like this. No room to put the rack exactly in line with the steering arms. But those were thick cast iron. You could do it with an adapter in between made of steel.
@@bluebeast440 lots of room without an oil pan, LOL
I really love it, it's amazing. how did you do to adapt the rear wheel drive
i have a playlist that covers the build, check it out if you have time.
Yo how much you charge to do mine?
How did you adapt the motor to the 4L80 trans?
basically a direct bolt up, just need to use the right flexplate and converter, should be in 1 of the vids i have in the playlist on the car, the whole build is on here.
I am trying to install a 4L80 to a 1994 supercharged 4.6L Northstar motor from a sand rail. The Northstar uses a 142 teeth 8 bolt crank flange mounting. Also is basically a GM metric bell housing 60* Do you have any experience or knowledge with stock GM parts and not spending a ton in custom work?
@@candyman1967 it sounds like you will need custom made parts for that combo.
How much was this conversion? Because I have an 06 monte carlo
is this real no way !!!
its as real as real can be my friend
yo i will send you mines to convert let me know the price?
i get this question alot, not 100% sure that the front end is the way to go, i have other ideas in mind on how to do it differenty so the steering geometry is correct, so i will not quote a price. thanks for watching, i appreciate it
how did the rear hang in there? is it a kit or did you fab it up for the 4 link. sweet project with bad ass results
its all out of a mustang.
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 i dug back thru your vids and found the one showing the rear install of the frame section.. great idea and execution for the swap.
@@russupsidedowntopbottom955 thanks, the mustang rear worked out real good. tough axle, correct width and bolt pattern, easy to find parts for too.
I wonder if this can be done to a 2 door 97 GTP and what will I be looking at as far as cost to do it
basically the same car underneath. if you did it the same as we did go buy a mustang for all the suspension parts.
How did you run your exhaust
its all shown in a previous vids. i have a playlist on the car, check it out for the build from the start to now. thanks
@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 my bad seen it right after I made the comment

new springs, they will settle down, thanks for watching
What vehicle is the brake booster from? I know the stock booster is too large of a diameter to fit.
aftermarket, bought it on ebay. smallest diameter one thay make
💪💪🔥🔥🤯🤯
If that was a cold start, it sure was a lot of hard revving.
rev it till it blows, we will get another, LOL
How much would something like this cost
