I think this is a great representation of the struggle that, not only Koreans have, but any other immigrant nationalities. Many people don’t realize some of the real struggles millions of Americans go through every day.

Dominic Shaheen my parents worked so hard to make a good life for me but since they worked hard and kept going we pretty much stable enough to have a good house good cars and stuff so if you're an immigrant just know you can do it too if my parents can you can

Dominic Shaheen 'real stuggles millions of *Americans* go through' uh
... *don't you mean 'immigrants living in America'?* If you're American, needing a visa to live in America, which is the topic of the video, wouldn't be an issue to begin with.

Regina Phalange recognizing people coming here and becoming apart of our culture makes them “American.” It’s a culture that welcomes people not turns them away. Just an opinion and I know there’s the legal side of it too, but creating a culture that makes others feel welcome and a part of something bigger is the end goal either way.

If he doesn't get a job in 6 months he'll lose his H1-B. The H1-B is a work permit if he doesn't have it he won't be allowed to legally work inside the United States, and will be forced to go back to Korea.

this is true for all if not most immigrants in the US and other countries. The fact that buzzfeed is taking on these issues if even through small skits is a great sign. We need to be more aware that not everyone is living life as well as we think they are, there are struggles (especially immigrants) that they must go through that we will never have to , even being all white is a privilege, most times just because you are born in the country doesn't mean that everyone accepts you. ,Thankfully i live a life where i am not not subject to racism constantly , it isn't perfect but i know i do not go through this problem as mush as others.
Shout out to whoever decided to produce this, and came up with the idea, you are going in the right direction.

If you think this is invalidating your own struggles, you misunderstood the video. This is just showcasing another facet of American immigration/cultural differences that a lot of people suffer/deal with. It's not a competition of "who has it worse", it's just explaining and showing another area of life that not all of us deal with but need to know about in order to keep perspective.

If y’all looked at the credits and who wrote it you’d know it was Evan the guy with the brown hair in the video who got kicked from his company. Also if you watched more buzzfeed videos you’d know they have a lot of Korean employees at buzzfeed. You’re saying that they’re not paying attention to other groups but there’s a whole channel dedicated to their Latino employees ( Pero Like ) and include a lot of their employees backgrounds and traditions in videos. So this one video written by a korean , expressing the troubles they and heir friends have had to go through as koreans, in America isn’t going to make buzzfeed an all korean channel. Just enjoy it for once, Evan and everyone else on this worked well and i’m happy they shared their experience with us.

So true. I have been in the US for 10 years and am still on a student visa. I have obtained associate, bachelor, and master degree. All in the hope that I can obtain sponsorship from a company. However, the final round of interview when you ask for sponsorship, most of the time the company will refuse to do so, especially in the last year when Trump attempted to make it harder for international students to get H1B. Yep, there are people who say there is an easy way, marry an American. I would, if I love them for real. I would not lie and marry for the sake of living here. “You are lucky you have an opportunity”. I still feel I am lucky to initially have been able to come to the US and obtain my associate degree. I have worked my butt off and supported myself since then. I am grateful for family and friends who always have my back. If I don’t make it at the end, at least I have given my best. And you know, if you don’t have it, make it. Thanks for making this short. 아자 아자 화이팅!

As a Korean who got sponsored by an American company for my h1 visa and finally got my green card last year, so can related to this video. I spent so much money during those 10 years while I've been here in America. but I am still a foreigner and still have a risk that can be deported back to South Korea any time for very minor mistakes like fighting with somebody or DUI etc, if I want to have an American citizenship then I have to wait another 5 years so during those times I have to manage myself not doing anything wrong, Many Americans don't understand my kinda situations but Staying legally in America as a foreigner is actually really hard, even getting a part time job as an international student is illegal in America. but still a lot of Americans think that we are stealing their jobs. so sad.

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time. However, the Americans who think you are "stealing their jobs" are poorly educated and only want to point fingers at someone rather than themselves. I'm sorry you deal with such ignorance. Know that what they say is in no way remotely true. Funny, I am an American living in South Korea now - I love this country but foreigners here deal with their own struggles while constantly sticking outside of the Korean idea of normal / culture. But all we can do is ignore the people who try to bring us down and try to make the best lives for ourselves :) Best of luck to you.

The stress..its all very real, I'm chinese korean and my ex was a J-1 intern. She was sponsored by a Korean company in America which means most of the time you are faced strict and harsh management when compared to American companies, where they do not get day offs on most US holidays. And when asked to work overtime you cannot decline. On top of that barely making minimum wage..many of our friends who could not endure ended up quitting and had to go back to Korea.

Exactly. And no offense to koreans at all but MOST of them(not all) come from a wealthy background with educated hardworking parents who support their kids. People from southeast asian like myself, come to america with a very poor background and parents who arent very educated and know very little english. I feel like china/japan/korea immigrants who come to america have a better chance because their own country is economically successful.

Now I've grown up, graduated, and with all my friends, education, and a decade of life here, its hard to think about going back. I guess its just something I need to put my mind into, and think that its not the end, and there are other ways and possibilities to a better future. Good luck to you, and to everyone out there. • @owlright7524
      @owlright7524 6 років тому +14

I feel ya. I haven’t been here for most of my lives as you guys have but i did spend a significant time of my life in America. It was harder for me to get into my dream school bc of my immigration status but I did get in and I’m excited to start a new era of my life here. But no matter what, the feeling of not belonging still lingers in the corner of my heart. I can’t go back or live the same way home country because now I’m a lot different than most people there but I also don’t feel like I belong here because having been raised in a different culture and society, i’m Still very different from most people in America. This is really weird feeling. Sometimes you go like “screw it!! I am who I am regardless of the country I’m in and the difference isn’t a big deal!” But then on many days you feel like you want to disappear bc you’re not fully wanted/accepted anywhere.

i dont understand why theres so much negative feedback on this video, its a skit showing the struggles immigrants in america face, specifically focusing on koreans. as a korean american, although i havent had to face these struggles nor have my parents had to, its hard because many koreans do love america and wanna build their lives here but face a multitude of obstacles in doing so. this video isnt showing that america is the worst country in the world, or that immigrants are complainers who want everything handed to them. its just highlighting the struggles of a language barrier, being away from family, facing discrimination in society/the workplace, etc. i think it was a great video and koreans have been underrepresented besides people hyping up kpop stars, so i fail to see the problems everyone is complaining about.

Can ppl please stop complaining that they should have done a video about all immigrants? I get if many of the struggles apply to various foreign ethnicities, but this video was focused on koreans- is that a crime? To make one video encompassing all ethnicities would be inaccurate, since each ethnicity has a different experience in the US, and then illegal immigrants go through a different process all together. This short focuses on Koreans in america who try to follow the american dream, and theres nothing wrong with that.

Elizabeth Lee if they try people will complain about the groups that don’t make it to the video

Qifan Zhao exactly- it’s basically impossible to show every tribe and ethnicity in one video

Buzzfeed is using Koreans for clickbait since there’s a bunch of kboos who follow em’. I agree with what you said, though

勇利さん lol that’s probably a factor into all their “try korean __” vids, but it’s cool to see the korean filmmakers get to share videos like this, idk

I never comment on UA-cam videos but this just hits too close to home. I was literally in the same situation. I lived in America for 11 years on a student visa. My friends and life are there but this experience seriously gave me an unnecessary amount of stress and a meltdown. Ugh. Now I'm back in Korea and more confused than ever. But kudos to Buzzfeed for making a video that many could agree with.

Why does everyone clamor for more diversity but then a video like this is made and ppl whine “oh just koreans, what about x race”. Yes, i hope one day each ethnicity will have fair, accurate representation, but when we get that for one ethnicity we shouldn’t tear it down bc not all are progressing at the same time on ONE youtube channel.

    • @burritosenpai5890

No one is tearing it down, but to some it feels like it invalidates other races and or nationalities, ijs *shrugs*

Burrito Senpai I see your point, but there are some comments on here that are saying “stop just showing korea korea korea”, when a few years ago no one knew about korea. So yes, some are tearing it down, but ik that some are saying what you said

Me and my family lived in America for about three years and we came back to Korea. My mom says she never wants to go to the States even for a vacation. I don’t know what other people would say about this but living as a foreigner is that hard.
