  • I bought two 750 mm long and 70 mm diameter plasma tubes from ‪@burakuda‬ Barracuda Glass by Chris Burak. These lovely borosilicate glass tubes are filled with a mix of iodine, argon and krypton, for a bright blue glow. The Tesla coil used, is one of my first Tesla coils ever built. nice!..almost lightsaber-ish!..
..have you had any disgrunted ham radio guys knocking on your door yet?! ..im sure they love all the RF noise you pump out! :P

Most of the RF energy is spent in spark load. As you can see from the tubes, the field does not radiate far.

Verry cool... and funny.....i bought a special burner to blow glas becaus i wanted to try to make these... I can also tell you that you were right.... you can paint the secundaire black... no problem... "Flash" works great... Thanks ;)

You could try 13.56 MHz...but you would have to make a suitable load coil for that, and use a linear amplifier to get the right amount of power output.

I actually never made a HFSSTC, I think the highest resonant frequency is actually that VTTC at around 300 kHz.

I was talking about an RF driver for those tubes.

Really looking forward to seeing your upcoming driver build! Those tubes are super nice looking 👍

But how did Bill Parker create his bright green? Someone said that the secret ingredient was carbon monoxide.

Wow your setup looks sick these days... Ive been following for many many years. I loved when you just showcased your components during the lockdown. Keep up the great content its extremly helpfull especially when i was getting into the hv world!!

The discharge is most likely an excimer discharge, from an excited complex of krypton and iodine.

See you were carful to avoid direct strikes to the tubes. Lost plenty of smaller tubes to punctures. 🙄

I punctured quite a few CFL tubes, not that those thin ones compare to this thick glass, but there is not reason to risk it :)
