It was an acting choice for the character after she kinda figured out what kinda character she was gonna play Bernadette as. I believe it was like a joke or something but nobody said anything and so she went with it. she mentioned it in an interview after the series ended

Anyone else want to go a little further into Bernadette's childhood? It's been mentioned and hinted at so many times, I feel like the writers could probably make at least a couple of episodes off of that material.
+Nathan Deal I think we know most of it from all the pieces. Her dad was a cop so he was always on duty and her mother worked full time. This meant she had to look after her brothers and sisters since she was the oldest. This is what caused her initial dislike of children. She was also bullied in high school for being short, which she claims was a side effect of her mother smoking while pregnant with Bernadette.
Huh, well never mind then.
Bernadette was also working at her mothers illegal day care center. One of the props of being married to a cop, I suppose.

If the show credit goes to Jim 90% then what about the producers, director, Others actors and team? Of course he may own like 10% credits but not 90%.
Director can replace any actor (can cast you also and made famous) and we are just fans what we see not behind the scenes. (He is just actor not real life scientist either)
