Double or Nothing and All In were like SummerSlam and WrestleMainia. Full Gear isn't as big but is usually where the lights out match happens, which is the mist brutal match of the year. But this year Hangman and Swerve have already filled that quota, so it was just missing something. @@Dporticus
@seanstirling2685 I'm not sure what you mean when you say full gear is the lights out match payperviews. Like I don't think it's an annual thing. I think the biggest problem of the show was the pacing. You don't need 7 singles matches in a row though. Still a great show.
No we hate because it's a bad product..we all wanted aew to succeed it just gets worse.Tony Khan is the worst booker and owner of a wrestling company ever.
Here's an explanation of the ending of the PPV for Dporticus and anyone else who didn't really understand it -Hangman and Christian further their association by seemingly cutting a deal that Hangman helps Christian (try to) win the title tonight in exchange for the first shot. Hangman not letting go of the contract at first absolutely screamed “Keep your word.” -Hangman still hasn’t gotten over losing the title in the first place, a fact made abundantly clear by Hangman over the last 2.5 years through his body language and facial expressions whenever the topic of the championship comes back up, hence his attempted helping of Christian here. He also has a LOT of history with Mox and presumably is not on Mox’s side in this war for the soul of AEW (and yet not really on AEW’s side either; he’s in this for selfish, personal reasons), so that provided further motivation for him to act tonight. -Jay White still has a bone to pick with Christian, so he foils Christian’s plan while simultaneously re-inserting himself in the title scene like the opportunistic snake he is. There’s also the likelihood that Jay is still salty about losing out on the Continental Classic last year after Mox pinned him in the block finals, and what better way to get back at him than to beat him for the world title he wants so bad that he paraded around with the belt for a month last year when he hadn’t even won it yet? -Willow is OC’s bestie, clearly on the anti-Mox side of this war, and can even the score for the AEW army when it comes to dealing with Marina. -Darby is the avenging angel of AEW, the ultimate endgame for Mox as a challenger, and almost certainly the one to finally dethrone him. He is the Sting to Mox’s Hogan, only with more vehicular assault and less vultures flying in the arena. All of these seamlessly interwoven together in the course of about 10 minutes, each having time to breathe and making logical sense in both their own story vacuums and the broader Mox vs. AEW war. In addition, there’s the implication that the anti-Mox brigade is too divided and acting on selfish impulse to truly be able to gain the upper hand. Some of the original allies against the Death Riders, namely Private Party and Daniel Garcia, have moved on from directly fighting Mox and co. to the tag and TNT Title pictures (both of whom have been successful in their endeavors), and the new crop of anti-Mox guys are not united at all and are pretty obviously exploiting the situation to further their own individual agendas. The only ones on the actual frontline for AEW are OC & the Conglomeration (and he just lost ), and Darby, who is still a reckless loose cannon in a time where he can’t really be that if he wants to end Mox’s reign of terror. After all, him being reckless is what started all this in the first place when he lost his title shot to Mox back at Grand Slam. I loved the ending of this show, and I feel like all these new elements and aspects to the Mox vs. AEW war are adding a level of intrigue to it that might not have previously been there over the last month.
AJ VS. QT WAS AN 8 STAR CLASSIC!!!! The rest of the show yeah it wasn’t the greatest ppv. They did set a high standard, it just didn’t hit as hard. Not a bad ppv at all, not skipable, just had better ppvs in the past
Big Boom AJ killed it. Knowing he broke his foot beforehand, and still wrestled a solid match. Also hearing he gave up his dream of wrestling to provide for his family, and finally getting this moment was really cool. I'm sure it brought so many new eyes from their fanbase too! OC is a really cool character, but its been a very long development so its understandable if it hasnt clicked. He has always been this goofy gimmick but amazing wrestler underneath. Over the past year or so he has gotten much more aggressive and Mox has been pulling that out even more. I think Mox's plan is to really bring out that main event character from OC, so it'll be exciting to see if that continues to develop after their match.
Not every show will hit. That's just a fact of life. You might want to check out the Continental Classic selection video. This tournament is a round robin format that features all participants on TV every week until the finals at World's End. I would suggest watching Collision for this. Last year was really fun. Got some great matchups that made for great moments. IMO, we're about to see the real Okada unleashed.
Sorry it didn't hit for you. I wasn't able to understand what you meant by "it didn't feel like a ppv". It wasn't top tier but it was an easy 8 out of 10 for me as someone who has watched every single AEW PPV.
The funny thing is by the standards of wrestling like 10-15 years ago this would have been a killer PPV, but by 2024 AEW PPV standards? Yeah, it was one of their weaker ones of the year. I loved Ospreay-Fletcher and Mercedes-Statlander but as a whole it wasn't quite up to some of the other shows this year like All In or All Out. It happens. I'm also hoping they get quite a bit cheaper on Max.
damn for me Mox/OC was the best one (just the finish put it down). Then Kyle/Ospreay, then Hangman/White (insane quality) then Ricochet/Takeshita, then MJF/Roddy, then Swerve/Lashley, then Perry/Garcia. Basically loves these ones, but mostly because I re watch them for my vids. And I love finding more and more small details on every match, they are so subtle but important (a lot of foreshadowing as well) .
The Ricochet/Takeshita match is a head-scratcher for me too, and I've been a fan all my life. Those two should have put on a killer match, but it was just kind of meh. It wasn't bad. Even a bad match with those two is still a pretty good match for anyone else, but it just didn't hit for me. As far as the ending, a lot of different stories converged all at once, so if you haven't been watching the shows, that might be why it didn't hit for you, and seemed convoluted. It appears another commenter already walked through that, so I won't write a thesis here. lol. Fun video as always.
So the main concern you have is that you don't see much of a difference in quality between matches on the weekly show and the pay-per-view. The match quality is very high on the weekly shows...does this somehow diminish the PPV for you as well? I thought the PPV Matches on Full gear were very good (Especially Mercedes, Ospreay, Cassidy Matches). I just find it a little hard to understand being disappointed by having good regular matches AND good PPV matches. Should they tune down the quality of the regular matches to make the events seem bigger? I am not sure I would like that either
No. What I'm saying is that the ppv matches were a lower quality (to me) than I usually see on their ppvs. They were more like what I see on dynamite. I think you're misunderstanding and thinking that I believe dynamite constantly had ppv quality matches or something.
tbh as popular/unpopular as you think aew is today it's about 60% as watched as it was when it first started. It's cooled off a lot. A lot of people know about it but they're just choosing not to watch right now.
@@Dporticus the number here is somewhat misleading. Going off the same metrics _RAW_ has dropped by the same amount while _Smackdown_ is sitting at 40% and dropping. Part of this is from the massive dropoff in television viewing since 2021.
I really appreciate you approaching the product with open mind & not buying into the tribalism. AEW takes a lot of heat for not telling stories, I find that to be false. Tony Khan uses a lot of long term storytelling but for ppl that don't follow on a regular basis it can be hard to follow or possibly remember. I know during the watch along you had questioned why Jay White was showing 5 & not understanding what that was about. Between NJPW & AEW Switchblade Jay White & Hangman have faced off 6 times. Jay holds a 5-1 singles record over Page. The only victory Hangman has over Jay is when Christian interfered costing him the match in The Owen Hart tournament. Jay lost that match & was out injured for 3mths before coming back to target Hangman, Christian before going after the AEW title. Tony Khan with the long term storytelling doesn't only include what happens in AEW in the stories, he includes past rivalries from their indy days & other promotions. Sometimes that is better explained than others. I found some of the seeds in these rivalries in AEW if there weren't pre-existing rivalries started being sewn at the Continental Classic last year. They just added an update of last years tournament up on AEW's youtube today. I'll include the link but a lot of major storytelling started here last year & I expect the same with the tournament this year. ua-cam.com/video/HlDU4LRe8xo/v-deo.htmlsi=EJkfjDoNX7cGQLHo
I will die on the hill that WWE wouldn’t have the tribal chief story or the Cody story if it wasn’t for the AEW hangman story which imo was on par with the tribal chief angle
I appreciate your comment but I think AEW can't do every single PPV as if it were the first for someone new and that there should be some connections with the various weekly shows. My advice is to use the AEW UA-cam channel to understand the various feud before a PPV because they make a lot of content to understand the various storylines
I'm not asking for them to do anything for new people. They clearly didn't need to for all the PPVs I loved. This one just failed to live up to the "AEW PPVs always deliver" promise I've been told so many times. That's all.
You are not wrong. I've been watching AEW weekly shows and ppvs for 5 years and this one was lacking in energy that the audience reflected. And as a viewer, I felt like the commentary team was not excited at all which made for very dull viewing. I thought things were better when JR joined the last two matches but, like you I found the end chaos confusing. Also totally agree about the Costco guys and The Rizz. They were fun plus Big Show added additional bonus content.
I'm an AEW guy, and I fully agree with your opinion on Full Gear. It wasn't terrible by any means, it just wasn't very memorable. My opinion, I think it's because they didn't have any extra stipulations to any of the matches, aside from the tag team championship 4-way. The rest of the card was literally just normal singles matches. That fact alone had me knowing ahead of time this was going to be one of the worse off PPV's this year.
I respect your opinion. I consider myself an AEW fan but even I struggle to get through some of their more recent shows. I didn't even bother tuning in to Full Gear. I just had no interest. So I fully understand where you're coming from.
One thing about this show was it didn't have any special stipulations. Most AEW ppvs have Street Fights, Texas Death, cages or ladders. They always go big. This show was all straight matches so I can get why that might fall flat for newer fans to AEW who rightfully expect all of that wild stuff. As a long time AEW fan I found the show a refreshing change of pace but I can totally understand why a new fan probably doesn't feel that way.
Going into wrestle dynasty you might want to watch a few collisions or at least UA-cam clips as the Continental classic tournament starts this week and finishes as wrestle dynasty
I’m what you would call a hardcore AEW fan . I’ve bought every ppv from the beginning , and Full Gear was ( by far ) the weakest ppv AEW has put on. If the mjf match isn’t very good ….and it wasn’t ….. that’s NOT a strong show .
The problem may have been with how a lot of the matches follow a similar pattern. Lots of moves that are usually finishing moves that are kicked out of ad nauseum. In. every. single. match.
i think the main problem with ricochet vs takeshita was that it was nearly 11 o clock at night and the crowd was tired and they had just sat through four 20 minute matches back to back also it seemed like ricochet was trying to work a new style to more grounded and technical like ospreay has which honestly hurt the match i feel like it shouldve just been a 10-15 minute sprint of ricochet does his usual stuff and takeshita throwing him around and hitting him with hard strikes
As a major fan of AEW and former fan of WWE of occasionally still watches their ppvs, I appreciate your honest approach to the product and you aren’t following the trend of just trashing AEW because it’s the cool thing to do now. I do agree Full Gear wasn’t the best ppv they’ve had to offer and I was there in person 😅 but like you said up to this point every other ppv has been banger after banger. Looking forward to watching more of your content
Don’t worry about not understanding or getting into the storylines. That’s not been a strong point of AEW for a few years now. If you go into a match trying to connect it with a storyline with any kind of stakes like in WWE, it’s gonna take away from the experience. Most matches should be viewed in a vacuum. It’s WAY more enjoyable like that.
Hey Dporticus, I appreciate the Unbiased opinion About AEW You made a lot of Knowledgeable Points on this Pay - Per - View. One thing I Do to make the Event A lot more Fun Is Decorations Your Entertainment Area as If You are At the Show . I've Always Been In a State of Awe when I see WrestleMania,No Way Out, Backlash ,Summer Slam, and Judgment Day Set Particularly 2004 when Eddie Guerrero Defended his championship at the Staple Center,( where Revolution will be at as well Next year) *Hint I'm Going* But overall SIMPLY making an effort to Decorate and make a Small Set while the PPV occurred it will breath Life into the Damn show and Make You Feel more engaged and Love the Product I Simply use Projector's, Styrofoam to die cut the Logo and Display it Above my TV. Also include Lighting Package and them it to the Color of The Show like Full Gear used Orange and Yellow it looks Amazing behind the Television as a silhouette then you can Print and cut out Logos from Previous Year Set up flags For any live events it works and makes Your Event Even at Home feel Live and your More Invested That's what I do But I Love Wrestling I Don't care what it is My Dad and I Were Wrestlers in highschool He was a CiF Champion! 🤷♀️ God bless that man He took me to No Way Out '07 and I got scared when the show started Concussion Pyro is No Joke WWE did that well back in the day and You felt when Kane was There Your body Immediately Gets Warms unpleasantly it's HOT! LOVE KANE! Any way Thanks for the feedback enjoy Wrestling in total and Decorate To breath More Life into Event's! Or Don't 🤷♀️
I started watching in 2000, and I was in a similar situation way back then -- I loved the Fed, but when I tried to get invested in WCW, I just couldn't. Both shows were pro wrestling, but it was amazing how different they felt. Obviously AEW is a lot better than latter-day WCW, but it's definitely okay to feel more at home with one product than the other.
When it comes to PPV pricing, with how it used to be around $50-ish as the norm in the old days but then came streaming services, the situation with AEW choosing to go old-school about PPV pricing makes me think of a quote from the reoccurring radio host, Lazlow, from the Grand Theft Auto video games: “Once you’ve flown First Class, it sucks to take the bus again.” We live in a time for pro-wrestling where we have not just Peacock, but also streaming services like Triller TV (if you like independent wrestling) and Wrestle Universe (Japanese wrestling) where you get a lot of bang for your affordable buck. And then, here comes AEW, wanting us to pay $50 per PPV again when we’re all used to getting way more for less… Naturally, plenty would feel that it’s a ripoff, compared to things like Peacock including PPVs for no extra charge. So, you’re not alone there.
It wasn’t their best PPV but still Really good. Ospreay, Mercedes, Jay White, Swerve & Daniel Garcia I liked the most. I watch WWE too and this was better than their last 3 PLE’s for sure
Matches were great...The issue was those cards felt bigger, better builds and bryan danielsons retirement helped 2 of those... But as far as Full Gear You could see any of those matches on Dynamite but not all in the same night....Id compare it to WWE B level ppvs...I'll say this though..AEW used to only have 4 to 6 PPVs ...It made everything better. Better PPVs but also better Dynamites. I'd prefer that but I understand why they do more.
As an advent AEW fan, it definitely was a PPV that kind of disappointed me. Not because it was bad, it just felt poorly handled/paced. Lots of matches and moments didn't have time to breathe, the only match that was able to fully resonate with me was Fletcher vs Ospreay. To me, Mox vs Orange Cassidy was a great watch but again didn't have time to settle because of the rushed out ending.
Im not an american, but it's curious to me that you say that people don't know about AEW. They have prime time shows on TNT and TBS which are main cable channels from what I understand. Please explain.
Double or Nothing and All In were like SummerSlam and WrestleMainia. Full Gear isn't as big but is usually where the lights out match happens, which is the most brutal match of the year. But this year Hangman and Swerve have already filled that quota, so it was just missing something.
I've definitely heard the complaint that AEW seems to give away a lot of stuff on weekly television and it takes away from the ppvs before. Honestly, I really hope for the best for AEW because they have a lot of great talent. Hopefully getting put on Max will get more eyes on the product again. I know I'll try watching more once it gets added.
I agree a couple of the matches I felt like were dynamite and collision worthy and not ppv worthy. They aren’t bad, but they didn’t feel like AEW ppv match quality.
I overall liked the show. Even when AEW aren’t at the top of their game, they don’t really have PPVs that are below a 7/10. And you are always going to get a few really high quality matches with people like Ospreay, Swerve, Hangman etc. around. Those 3 are going to have good PPV level matches every time. I thought some of the matches suffered for just being regular matches, there were no stipulations on the card, which made them feel a little bit like TV matches. There’s no heat for this MJF/Cole feud. It feels disingenuous that they flipped the face/heel dynamic but kept the same feud, like the kind of thing Vince would have done. For a company that always pulls from its history to give more flavour to its feuds, this one feels really out of place. I was really disappointed by Ricochet and Takeshita. I think Tempest at Wrestletalk said it best, they had the wrong style of match. They did pace vs power, and it slowed the match down, they should have just done a fast, 10 minute, sprint to a finish, speed vs speed match. Also they need to shit or get off the pot with The Acclaimed breakup story. People aren’t into it, this should have been the time and place to do it.
Didn’t hit for me. I didn’t hate the last match the way a lot of ppl seemed to but it just felt middling overall. When the biggest hit are the influencer guys, I don’t think that is a good thing.
Buddy ( FYI. Sorry My post was Long. I'm an executive in this field & as an Aew loyal fan. I had to explain why some would question things. Love your vids . Maybe 🤔 these vids Will one day catch an marketing planner & do something with you. Maybe a NXT, or tnA partnership could be some type of eyes that are watching these vids.. It's not a know it All take. It's a wholesome couple New to the product.. keep up the good work ✓
really interesting perspective on why you didn't love this PPV, the way I look it personally is. its not AEW PPV are not having PPV level matches but AEW TV often have PPV level matches" if that makes any sense. I think its just a different philosophy for a lot of AEW wrestlers compared to WWE. where I think most AEW wrestlers each week want to put on the best possible match they can while WWE wrestlers often sorta just go through the motions. when looking through the history of AEW dynamite matches it is honestly staggering just how many "Match of the year" contenders they have on free TV
AEW is like a sports league with no playoffs. It's all regular season games (PPVs) and like practice matches (TV). And you can have great matches, and there can even be a story behind them, but ultimately if there's no meaning, if they don't go anywhere, then interest will be lost.
Totally understand your reaction. Definitely the weakest AEW PPV this year (which is granted a high bar given the quality for the other shows). I think one big problem was variety in style and especially story. Too many matches were story builders rather than story enders, so there was not a sense of finality to the contests besides the ones that landed best (Ospreay/Fletcher, Mone/Statlander, Moxley/Cassidy, even QT vs. AJ). These will happen each year in AEW as they have so many PPVs but when they're asking for PPV pricing, it's understandable to expect PPV quality.
I’m with you, man. This was one of the weaker AEW PPVs I’ve seen in a while. I had a hard time staying invested, and, in fact, I turned it off and finished it the next day. I’ve never done that before.
I was at the event, really loved being there, Ospreay/Fletcher is a MOTY candidate, Mercedes showed she still has it - IT'S OKAY TO NOT HAVE FELT ALL OF IT. Part of the challenge right now are clear storylines. Mox's intent still hasn't been fleshed out (I think his wife on the preshow gave the best explanation of why, and that's a problem) MJF and Cole didn't need to happen as a feud - they could have just passed each other in the hall months from now with a glance and that would tell a clearer story than this, and unless you were really keyed in, it would be hard for a casual (let alone a diehard) to keep up with the macinations of post-main event. IT'S OKAY TO FEEL THAT WAY. You're not a bad faith critic - it's so okay to not have connected with it.
Don't sleep on Jay White vs Hangman (MOTY contender). Just two of their matches back to back, how in first Jay won by luring Hangman into opening the leg. And here Hangman targeted the leg of White, while White did the same tactic. Thing is, Jay White is a great counter wrestler, and his in ring IQ is just too much for Hangman especially if he is frustrated (not focused on strategy). Will surely make highlights of this one, already have made highlights of their last one (literally showcasing the strategy of Jay White). Would have considered that one MOTY, but damn this one is so similar (yet it used material from the last encounter). While Kyle/Ospreay is another classic (already made vid of that), it was more about a Bgger, Younger, Faster guy with lack of morals try and hit the king to become one. While Ospreay wasn't weaker, he did lost, but lets not forget the damage Osrpeay suffered from his title run, and how he got dropped on his head by Fletcher on the last PPV (this did played a big part in Kyle winning).
@@MrTeamGuy oh I loved that match too. I don't know how it came across on TV as I haven't caught the replay, but as I relayed to someone I went to the show with, it felt like I was back in Japan. People were more engaged and deeply appreciative of the psychology of that match. I think that's why I like and appreciate AEW so much - I've loved watching WWE and will continue to do so, but sometimes I need something different and matches like what I saw totally did the job for me.
I was at the show and had a great time. Here’s why it fell flat. Mostly heels won. One match you didn’t mention, Daniel Garcia vs Jack Perry, was one of the only matches with a feel good winner, a babyface getting a long deserved title win. I’m pretty sure Ricochet vs Takeshita would have played better as the opener. It was too similar in style to Ospreay and Fletcher and it wasn’t going to follow that classic. Also, the show was already 4 hours or so in if you include the preshow, and the crowd was tired. Obvious winners, even when they make sense, can detract. It seems clear that Darby is going to be the one to dethrone Moxley, so the main event lacked some drama.
I understand AEW trying to give people the most value out of our $60, but 12 matches is just too much. Maybe lower the price to $40 and make PPVs only have 6 matches.
I just think it’s really funny that AEW, “where the best wrestle”, had a match with a brain rot UA-camr. If we did this, AEW would shoot on them so hard. Not saying it’s bad, I just think it’s really funny.
Love AEW but hey, not every show is a hit. There's gotta be misses here and there, as well as hot and cold periods where every cylinder fires or every shot's a dud. Hopefully, the norm is more toward the positive than the negative. As long as you're not coming at something in bad faith, then you do you, my man. That said, AEW's been in something of a soft reboot just as you're following Dynamite. So it's in a bit of a cold period to me personally. They seem to be trying to build their original guys up, after dropping and ignoring them in favor of established bigger stars from outside and letting them settle into mid-cardery. Not to mention, unlike the prior shows that felt like pay-offs to build ups, this PPV seemed to be part of the building up process. So a combination of more relatively smaller stars (still got some big ones like Mox) and being more of an intermission than a conclusion, probably doesn't help in the feel of the PPV.
So you didn't like the show, because you didn't know what going on because you don't watch the show during the week.... got it. The entire show was incredible. Every match was awesome. Every match extended stories, and lead you to the next story beat. The Mercedes-Statlander match was the women's match of the year in any promotion.
I liked the show... and i watch dynamite. No need to be so defensive here. I watch because I want to learn it. I've heard from tons of aew fans that they agree that it wasn't as good as other recent ppvs. Nothing wrong with that.
Not my favorite ppv. Usually they knock it out the park but this one was a dud. Liked the ospreay fletcher match. Mjf vs strong, Mercedes vs Kris and lashley vs swerve. The rest was pretty mid
I had to watch it on replay and was falling asleep in the last hour. I enjoyed a bunch of it, but def felt it was way too many matches. I am a mark for the Costco guys, don’t ask.
Full Gears card just didn’t shape up to a lot of the other cards that they have run for other PPVs. Usually I can find like 2-3 things to rly get into Full Gear I was barely into the Takeshita match and that’s my favorite guy because there wasn’t anything for me to get into it. I knew Takeshita was gonna win from a mile away. The end of the show just didn’t make sense using bleach first off just no. Then everybody running down one after another it was like 4 angles were being done at once. I heard reports that Moxley at the end of the night wanted to be hung up on the hood of Darbys car and be driven around the parking lot😂😂 Thank god we didn’t get that the visual would’ve been preposterous. And the media scrum after was a mess nobody asked any real questions, no one mentioned the BLEACH, and it was just all softball stuff. Some lady tried to ask a racebaiting question to Bobby Lashley and he shut that down real quick. This show doesn’t give me a lot of excitement to tune in for future shows if there’s a matchup I really like yeah I’m turning it on but I’m not paying for it. My best bet with a AEW ppv is to call up Jack Sparrow and get on that pirate ship
Flether vs ofspreyis the only match that good from the card as far as storyline go love flecher definitely awesome match dude need some bass in his voice tho sound like that nazi general from star was force awakens forgot his name, one other good match is probably mone vs Kris mainly Kris love her but the feud leading up to it suck
@Dporticus I believe the story has been going on with them since March. Do quote me on that the earliest I remember is the Jacksonville homecoming episode
@Dporticus here's the problem. You already are aligning yourself, with your hyperbolic title, with the anti-AEW UA-camrs that get numbers. I'm not going to watch your review because you've already shilled out. A title like "AEW Full Gear 2024 Review" would have been enough, but because you are a hack you had to make it clearly negative. You want those Jim Cornette and Vince Russo views. You are appealing to a dumb part of the fandom while also expressing your ignorance. This is just obvious clickbait bullshit and you are just as bad as them.
@@DporticusI did But I want to give you some context for a few things One thing that really hurt Ricochet vs Takeshita was the crowd. We were really dead. We were all freaking out during Ospreay’s match which took a lot out of us. So no crowd energy really hurt it. Then to end the show, if you remember Hanger teamed up with Christian a few weeks ago on Dynamite. Well Christian told Hanger that he could get the first title shot if he won the belt. Switchblade and Hanger are clearly not done with their feud so he screwed over Christian. Also we really don’t know how the contract works, AEW has had money in the bank like matches, but they aren’t impromptu they always are declared matches, except for during world’s end last year when Killswitch won a battle royale for a TNT shot which Christian used as soon as Cope beat him.

I definitely don't hate it at all. The show just fell flat for me and it's probably because they've raised my expectations for their ppvs.
Costco guys tore the roof off 2:12
No we hate because it's a bad product..we all wanted aew to succeed it just gets worse.Tony Khan is the worst booker and owner of a wrestling company ever.
Here's an explanation of the ending of the PPV for Dporticus and anyone else who didn't really understand it
-Hangman and Christian further their association by seemingly cutting a deal that Hangman helps Christian (try to) win the title tonight in exchange for the first shot. Hangman not letting go of the contract at first absolutely screamed “Keep your word.”
-Hangman still hasn’t gotten over losing the title in the first place, a fact made abundantly clear by Hangman over the last 2.5 years through his body language and facial expressions whenever the topic of the championship comes back up, hence his attempted helping of Christian here.
Thanks for this!
I'm so glad you did this so I could just keep my comment simple and not make my carpal tunnel worse with a story thesis. 🤣🤣
Think this will culminate at all in?
I hope AEW gets huge and popular again...but it wont happen with DARBY ALLIN as World Champ thats for sure
Oh look. Someone who pays attention
I have to add that the Mone vs Statlander, Hangman vs Jay White, Lashley vs Swerve were also very good.
The next month is gonna bang on TV because of the C2
AJ VS. QT WAS AN 8 STAR CLASSIC!!!! The rest of the show yeah it wasn’t the greatest ppv. They did set a high standard, it just didn’t hit as hard. Not a bad ppv at all, not skipable, just had better ppvs in the past
The spear from the kid was hilarious 😂
Would've been 9 stars if it was in the Tokyo Dome.
@@taggen2782 why does where it is matter?
@@seanstirling2685ask meltzer
@@seanstirling2685 It's a joke. They're mocking a guy name Dave Meltzer and his star ratings.
With the Continental Classic, Collision is a must see. You could also use a VPN and pay a cheaper price for the PPV on Thriller.
the pre show brought the BOOM
Sorry it didn't hit for you. I wasn't able to understand what you meant by "it didn't feel like a ppv". It wasn't top tier but it was an easy 8 out of 10 for me as someone who has watched every single AEW PPV.
as a fellow recent wrestling fan (wife and i only got into it 3 years ago), i can relate to this video! i think you make good content!
Very true. They raised the bar to a point where it's tough to sustain it every single ppv it seems.
damn for me Mox/OC was the best one (just the finish put it down).
Any PPV that feels like an episode of their weekly TV is never good, no matter the year.
And this is where you get the long standing criticisms against AEW for hotshotting, which some people never accept
Mone vs Stat was the best match on the card.
Full Gear was an 8/10. That's low when AEW is typically 9/10-10/10
Nope
tbh as popular/unpopular as you think aew is today it's about 60% as watched as it was when it first started. It's cooled off a lot. A lot of people know about it but they're just choosing not to watch right now.
That's a bummer
My boy dporticus, pls men can you make a video talking about how People still thinks that aew dont have stories.
Agree with everything full gear was a struggle I’m pumped for continental classic though with the possibility of speed ball coming into the fold
In. every. single. match.
Big Justice is his big boom AJ kid not . The Rizzer is just a friend. Or a family friend type of situation.
Oh 😆
i think the main problem with ricochet vs takeshita was that it was nearly 11 o clock at night and the crowd was tired and they had just sat through four 20 minute matches back to back also it seemed like ricochet was trying to work a new style to more grounded and technical like ospreay has which honestly hurt the match i feel like it shouldve just been a 10-15 minute sprint of ricochet does his usual stuff and takeshita throwing him around and hitting him with hard strikes
Wow that was really kind of you! Thank you for the donation and thank you for the kind words!
When it comes to PPV pricing, with how it used to be around $50-ish as the norm in the old days but then came streaming services, the situation with AEW choosing to go old-school about PPV pricing makes me think of a quote from the reoccurring radio host, Lazlow, from the Grand Theft Auto video games: “Once you’ve flown First Class, it sucks to take the bus again.”
We live in a time for pro-wrestling where we have not just Peacock, but also streaming services like Triller TV (if you like independent wrestling) and Wrestle Universe (Japanese wrestling) where you get a lot of bang for your affordable buck. And then, here comes AEW, wanting us to pay $50 per PPV again when we’re all used to getting way more for less… Naturally, plenty would feel that it’s a ripoff, compared to things like Peacock including PPVs for no extra charge. So, you’re not alone there.
What made you start watching wrestling. I've been watching it over 37 years
I always pick a couple wrestlers and just follow their stories.
I am loving this Mox/Death Riders story.
It wasn’t their best PPV but still
Really good.
The longer card is to get more wrestlers on the card so there is no complaints like you see in wwe about matches being left off the card
Having that many matches and only one women's match is wild though.
As an advent AEW fan, it definitely was a PPV that kind of disappointed me. Not because it was bad, it just felt poorly handled/paced. Lots of matches and moments didn't have time to breathe, the only match that was able to fully resonate with me was Fletcher vs Ospreay. To me, Mox vs Orange Cassidy was a great watch but again didn't have time to settle because of the rushed out ending.
thats the thing this year has been such a good year for wrestling that a middle of the road show is one on the wrost shows of the year
Im not an american, but it's curious to me that you say that people don't know about AEW. They have prime time shows on TNT and TBS which are main cable channels from what I understand. Please explain.
It definitely felt like a weaker ppv it was “good” but definitely something I could miss.
They’re are some good matches on this ppv
Double or Nothing and All In were like SummerSlam and WrestleMainia. Full Gear isn't as big but is usually where the lights out match happens, which is the most brutal match of the year. But this year Hangman and Swerve have already filled that quota, so it was just missing something.
genuinely loved that big boom AJ match. I've been liking them from the first costco guys video
Did you like jack perry vs daniel garcia? It was one of my favorite matches on the card
How have you been enjoying Dynamite? I haven't you post your thoughts on them on this channel.
This wasn't the best PPV. Ricochet vs Takeshita really disappointed.
I was really surprised that one didn't deliver for me
I agree a couple of the matches I felt like were dynamite and collision worthy and not ppv worthy. They aren’t bad, but they didn’t feel like AEW ppv match quality.
Also I would love your reaction / thoughts on the contential classic selection show
I overall liked the show.

I really appreciate that!
Clipboard is money in the bank I can say the car crash thing I didn’t quite follow but it made me excited to see what comes next
really interesting perspective on why you didn't love this PPV, the way I look it personally is. its not AEW PPV are not having PPV level matches but AEW TV often have PPV level matches" if that makes any sense.
Nope I fell asleep before the main event it’s sad once you go back and see where they were in 19-2021
AEW is like a sports league with no playoffs.
Tony needs to get more on hbo max app after that deal only have one season of all access from last year available
Patreon should get you to watch PAC vs OC if you haven’t to try and understand OC.
I understand AEW trying to give people the most value out of our $60, but 12 matches is just too much. Maybe lower the price to $40 and make PPVs only have 6 matches.
I'm definitely down for a discount lol
Then people will complain about certain feuds/ wrestlers being left of the card
It really only fell short because I'm used to all the other ppvs being so much better.
I had to watch it on replay and was falling asleep in the last hour. I enjoyed a bunch of it, but def felt it was way too many matches. I am a mark for the Costco guys, don’t ask.
so did you not like merecedes mone vs kris statlander that wa sthe best match of that show
People who use a vpn still pay, they just pay a discounted price just FYI
The ending to the PPV felt like a "go home" show to a weekly show bruv... just sayin
The only one where I think watching for only a month only hindered Fletcher vs. Osperay.
Which is funny because that was my favorite match of the night lol
@Dporticus I believe the story has been going on with them since March. Do quote me on that the earliest I remember is the Jacksonville homecoming episode
Hey ❤❤❤
AEW is at a low point. ive been watching for years.
i wish someone else was in charge of aew. they have too much talent to be wasting it the way they do.
Hack. Sucking that WWE teat.
So you didn't watch. Got it 😆
@Dporticus here's the problem.
It wasn't a bad show, it was just mid. Some good, some bad.
Yeah this was a much more mid show than the average aew ppv imo. a couple stellar matches but otherwise wasnt great
Worlds end 2023 was the worst aew ppv
Double or nothing was a sh*t show what are ya talking about bruh
YEET!
Yeet!
Sht was just long af and the same dumb moxley ending i enjoyed the matches tho
Full Gear was pretty mid lol
I loved full gear
I was also there in the 4th row, like you can see me during some of the matches
Hope you had a blast!
@@DporticusI did
But I want to give you some context for a few things
One thing that really hurt Ricochet vs Takeshita was the crowd.
A buddy ( as an aew loyal Day one Fan 🪭) this company Was here to give an option to childish booking ( that's why Bryan Alvarez coins it The kinkiest show on television.. plus With the level of violence and language. Most fans & content creators 100% DO NOT WATCH with their family or kids.
I tried went live 2 -3 years ago With My preteen daughter at that time.
Besides The cusses..
MjF exposed his draws to show his male pRt.. " saying Brandi Rhodes if you want a real man" .
My neighbor tried full gear last year. Where they Saw swerve recaps standing in hng Man House..
Which is hard to explain.
As well as storm & may & Mira 3-way kissing & drinking ea others blood.
[[[ I gave up on My daughter who is not of age not in college etc.
.....
Therefore as a family nite out maybe 🤔 tnA or NXT.
.....
But that does not mean I can't enjoy..
College kids And older.. basically around 19& and up is the demo..
......
Therefore to have a Guy who has a family based Chanel with very young kids.. actually sitting in the arena during the driving..
During the Mature feud with Roddy MjF. The blood & kissing With recaps of them shaking boobs ECT.
It's fine,✓
But WHY are THIS demographic being marketed.????
I'm a deno, marketing analyst
For Media buying & advertising planning..
I when consulting on new deals. We have riders on contracts .. I e
Legal notes, stating that partnership with underage children must not be seen during these segments.
...I thought it was on the pre show for that reason? But at 1230 am during the media scrums they were out there.
We had issues working under the Tribune Corp with reality TV that had families.. could not do anything in front of their kids if the reality tone changes & ppl break The rules..
°°Child protective services along with law enforcement will investigate any and All family content creators that are in mature situations °°
Again WHY were they there?
#1 I'm an Aew fan
#2 I'm a marketing & advertising director for Media buying & planning
#3 I do not bring My kids or any kids around this situation..
#4 if we blow it off.. behind the scenes this is not ok & they have investigated well less situations.
( One show had a Dad with a an open cup on camera getting buzzed..
That never made TV)
Anyway I see The value for having a 20 + audience.. absolutely ✓
I enjoy it..
But if The whole card was family friendly. Sure,✓
I think ppl
WERE UNCOMFORTABLE Bec of this & the event came off as less than
For most of us.
I enjoy the cross promoting & Target audience.. this needed to be Way early at night for kids to do or be up after midnight and viewing this product.
...
Yes im an Aew fan
And it makes Aew truly The alternative for adults with
Sex, violence & The f word chants throughout the building.
BTW
Love your show buddy
