@zanmirrob exactly. Have an appt. tomorrow to begin tapering my xanax. I must try yet another antidepressants. Why? They are worse than the xanax ever have been for me. Everyone I know feels so bad that they are being taken from me. I won't be going out or having a life. I do know that. I remember how my life was before them. Coughing, sweating, just a mess at public functions. After I began them I could actually sit and enjoy my children's school performances with out all the side effects of severe anxiety. Its sad they are taking them away. And with the sleep narcolepsy I'll be falling and staying asleep more and more. The anxiety destroys my energy. I'm tired because I I know the DR's really don't care? How could they when my life will be again what it once was only worse? All about the money. Isn't it always? I'll lose my schedule. Miss appts and lose doctor's just as I did 26 years ago. How can it even be human to take away what has worked for me all these years? A crippled person.

For the gentleman with the shaking hand, I had a similar response to benzodiazepines and SSRI's. Have you had your DNA checked? It was found with me that I am a rapid and ultra rapid metabolizer of many anxiety, depression, and opioid medications. I had seizures, speech problems, and involuntary movements such as yours. I am still trying to withdrawal from these drugs, as the withdrawal symptoms are horrible and in the beginning were like the side effects, only worse. It may be worth looking into. Don't take it, I wish I could go back in time 2019, Feb and never have taken it. Get therapy, do mediation, but also list out what's stressing you, I think we confuse depression with long term stress and mistakenly go on antidepressants, which makes us behave out of character. I regret not exerting my excessive energy in heavy work out which would have kept my mind busy and decreased my stress levels, go gym or do frequently heavy house cleaning which will help against depression and perhaps even reduce stress.

I think depression and severe depression come from years and years of not finding satisfaction in life, and somehow it has become natural to self-destruct over finding a comprehensive solution that doesn't hurt yourself or others. Going against what is natural to you instead of listening to yourself and being hard on yourself for not doing what you wanted. The best anti-depressant, in my opinion, is meditation as it allows the mind to dominate the matter of its existence beyond repetitive negative behavior.

I took fluoxetine for nine months after sudden unexpected romantic break up, job and parental loss. I was also born with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and have used a wheelchair since I was nine years old. The medicine helped me and brought me relief for approximately one week. After that, things got worse and have been that way ever since - even after I stopped taking the medicine. While I was on the medicine, I had seizures, my tight muscles would become even tighter And my anxiety and depression became much much worse. Although I am no longer dealing with the seizures, I’ve been dealing with terrible, terrible anxiety and suicidal thoughts that have slowly increased overtime. But I recently found this subconscious mind clearing meditation. That seems to be helping me a lot. I’ve been listening to it since 1 November And my feelings of anxiety and depression have decreased such that I feel much more comfortable now. I was in agony before - wanting or maybe even needing to take my life every single day constantly. That’s no way for anyone to live. For me, SSRI’s were complete poison. I also developed digestive problems that I’m still dealing with too.

For example, when your mind in focusing on a goal in life, and the fear and stress you feel about taking steps to achieve that goal cause you to feel anxious, this too often enterpreted by as an "anxiety disorder". This point is where you could take two paths: a doctor will most likely put you on the antideppresants path, to block those thoughts causing anxiety. But, on that path, they are altering your brain to not send messages to you to act upon that goal, putting you in a state of aimlessness. You have 2 choices: you can face those fears and make steps to achieve that goal without pills, weather the fears and stress, and address that goal, and that particular stress and anxiety will subside. Or, you can take a pill, that sedates you, and that goal will most likely never get ddressed. Unfortunately, we, the ignorant person going to a doctor, are not aware that we are actually taking this path, we hear "antideppresant" and think "oh that sounds nice, no depression, I can achieve my goals without ever feeling depressed ". The psychiatric industry developed this model of disease based treatment (you are schizophrenic , bipolar, anxiety disorder etc... ) to fight against doctors who were revealing the fraudulent nature of the industry, as far back as the 1950s. Antideppresants should only be used in severe cases of psychosis, for the duration of that illness. Not given to anybody who has some anxiety.

What the woman says is true. For people with severe depression the benefits outweigh the risks. My life is miserable, I have been in a dark suicidal depression since my teenage years. Have gone unmedicated for 10 years and it was the worst. I'm only in my twenties but feel like my life is worthless and that I can't get out of this. I've lost relationships, friends, and dopped out of university cause it had all become a worthless mess. So, I sought out a psychiatrist a year ago. Currently I'm on 300 mg of bupropion in the mornings + 30 mg mirtazapine in the night (similar to the Californian Rocket Fuel cocktail of venlafaxine+mirtazapine). I don't know if it's working, but I'm going to have to persevere. I have a illness that is trying to kill me. I don't have a choice to stay unmedicated anymore, I will die. I'm sure of it.

I'm one of the people that had SEVERE ADVERSE reactions to some antidepressants (to Prozac and Effexor, as well as two other drugs called Compazine and Reglan, all of which gave me the same HORRIFIC episode that has now left me with PTSD).
Within a half hour of taking the pill, I had a HORRIFIC episode of my brain going crazy and instantly trying to kill me (I had to fight my own body from clawing myself and trying to kill myself to end the madness). The horror of that episode can't be adequately put into words, and sadly I've had this same adverse reaction to three other drugs, which has left me with PTSD.
When I told my psychiatrist that this drug made me want to kill myself, that I had to fight my body from running to the kitchen and grabbing a butcher knife, his response was something along the lines of, "well I think you need to let this be in your system for it to work", and he actually tried to tell me to stay on the drug.
The fact that I told him that this drug INSTANTLY made me have to fight my own body from stabbing myself with a butcher knife, and that he said I should "try to stay on it", has left me DUMBFOUNDED, and this was the first major wakeup call of learning when to tell doctors no.

I hope you never touch it again!!! Believe it or not I had a doctor try to convince me to give it a second chance!!! He said that prozac needs to be in my system for at least a week, and I was dumbfounded.
Like I had just told him that one pill of this made me wanna stab myself with a kitchen knife (among other obscene things), and the fact that he heard that and STILL tried to convince me to be on it, blows my mind.
This was one of those experiences when I learned how to say no to doctors when needbe.

Hannah, sounds like you had a very similar experience to me. I've been looking through all these stories online of people losing mobility in their limbs on these drugs, but nothing close to the insanity I experienced - until I read your comment. I still have the urge to claw myself (to claw my own head), and it's been months since using the psychiatric drug I was given. I've found that natural things like getting some physical touch (massages if possible) have been the most helpful thing for alleviating my impulses, like the urge to claw my own scalp. Truth be told, I really don't get a lot of physical contact (which is probably vital for mental health) and that's probably something a lot of people can relate to in our society.
So here's my story: I tried Seroquel a few times, just a small dose (25mg). I know that's an antipsychotic and not an SSRI, but who cares at this point.. It took about 20-30 minutes for my Seroquel to kick in.. and when it kicked in, what I experienced was.. how should I put it.. A panic/anxiety attack that was a hundred trillion times worse than anything I'd ever experienced before. It felt like my brain was spiraling into an abyss of pain, and I laid in bed paralyzed with my eyes closed, just suffering as this drug made my head spiral and spiral.. I wanted to run away from what was going on in my own head. It truly did feel like a horror beyond words. I had no idea these drugs were so powerful, in such a monstrous way. A torment, a fire in the pit of my brain.
And I also think I have PTSD now simply because I relive/recall how it felt to try that drug. I relive it every day. I relive being in the ward when I tried it. I think the problem was, I was already in a very dark place (I was self harming and more), and this psychiatric drug just OPENED MY BRAIN UP - opened up scars that should not have been opened. Absolute overwhelming insanity is what I felt - I wanted to jump out the 12th story window I was living in. I had to grab on as tightly as I could to my bed to resist the temptation to go over to the window and jump. I experienced something similar when I tried weed actually, but the Seroquel was more potent. The difference was, the weed experience had positives too - I could find some sense of enjoyment in it, whereas the Seroquel was just HELL.
Now after using that drug, I have problems that I didn't have before.. I live in Canada, and the winter didn't used to bother me much.. but now when I look outside my window at the winter landscape, I get this absolutely soulcrushing depression and sense of going insane. I look at my balcony railings and feel like I'm trapped in a prison. I really can't describe it. And this is like 2-4 months after I tried the Seroquel. I am horrified at what this drug has turned me into. God, I am so sorry - I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
I also tried a small dose of some Benzodiazepine once while I was at the ward, and I had the same exact experience to the Seroquel.. No difference whatsoever. I think it doesn't matter which of these drugs you take, each of them will probably do this. It's probably just similar stuff under a different name. And yeah, when I tried to tell a psychiatrist about it, she kept pushing and pushing me to try a different medication or insisting I have to try it for longer. Like are you freaking kidding me? I tried the pill a couple times and it did that, and you want me to try it for LONGER? For months???? Do these people even try their own medications? The fact that these people don't know HOW HORRIFIC IT WAS makes me never want to go near that psychiatry clinic again, or anywhere near another one of those pills or anyone who pushes them.

So the horrific psychotic reaction has happened to me four different times from four different drugs, and one of the times that it happened was when I had a four day migraine and went to the hospital (where my neurologist's office was).
Man, to have a four day migraine and go to the hospital only to experience the psychotic HELL (and in the end they didn't even kill my migraine, I still had it for two more days).
Anyway where I'm getting at that you reminded me of, is when I had the reaction that time, I had to keep clinging to the chair and fighting the INTENSE urge to run to a window and jump out (my GAWD that drugs can do that to us!!!!!!!!!!).
I mean there were lots of urges, clawing and and all that awful violent crap, but the fact that I ALMOST ran to find a window to jump out (oh and was to be sure and jump head first so I can die on impact and thus end the madness that much faster) takes the cake.
Well just know you are NOT alone!!!
I felt (and often still feel) so alone, but no this kind of horror has happened to a lot of us.
That's something I remind myself, b/c after going through things like this for so long and often having medical ppl make me feel invalidated, it can make me start to feel like I'm crazy or that I'm somehow making it up.

Anti depressants are fucked. I challenge anyone who takes them to ask your doctor to tell you exactly the ingredients and exactly what each of those do and have the science to back it up, I bet you’ll walk out of there with no prescription

Wow, i had the same experience. One week of SSRI's and i was having these kind of crazy thoughts of self harm and suicide, i never felt this way before in my life. When i asked my doc, he said he has never heard of this side effect (TOTAL LIES). I'm off it completely and i'm much better. I think he just diagnosed me as "depressed" to get me on the pills. I'm sure it helps a lot of people but it was def not for me, never taking them again. I'm lucky i got off them in a week so there was no chance of withdrawals or dependency.

I've been extremely anxious and depressed for a long time now but I know the psychological issues I have that cause this and they are from my childhood, the fact that I've always been very sensitive and the very tough life experiences and very difficult circumstances I'm in now. However, I was never suicidal until I was put on mirtazapine and for the 10 days I was on it I spent every waking minute frantically thinking of how to kill myself ( I mean with real urgency ) I was completely overtaken with this crazy compulsion, I was literally standing on the window ledge many times a day fighting not to jump, climbing trees with homemade nooses, etc, I very nearly hanged myself but I got out of the washing line noose at the last minute, it left a purple mark around my neck for days..
By day 10 I had sourced drugs and overdosed only to wake up in intensive care with tubes everywhere.
I'm still in hell with anxiety/depression 5 months on but though I've little will to live I don't plan suicide. Psychiatrist still offering antidepressants and antipsychotics but I'm terrified of all these drugs now. All those I've tried apart from mirtazapine have given me no relief just nasty side-effects. I really don't know what to do. Any natural alternatives I try don't work but atleast they don't give these horrible side-effects. I have no emotional support, I can barely eat or sleep and I'm stuck living in a very difficult situation that I can't get out of. The only advice I get from everyone I ask for help is to take the medication I'm offered and keep trying til I find which meds work but I'm absolutely terrified of these meds now.

I just need something to sleep at night( for more than an hour or so which is all I'm getting)for a week or so but she won't give me any benzodiazipines even for a week with a taper off after it, because I had an opioid addiction history. I tried leaving it but, I'm not just sad, i feel tense, nervous, I've got the worst insomnia and anxiety/panic attacks, but i realise at the age of 50 I'm looking like a 60yr old grandma.
That's my life, we've got a history of chromic depression from my dad's side. One of my brothers had a nervous breakdown, which got him hospitalized in a mental facility for some time.
I realise me and him appear older than our older brother due to our lives which is controlled by antidepressants.

I started taking paxil at 15 years old for social anxiety disorder at 20 mg . I didn't understand why I was getting prescribed an anti depressant when I was really not depressed, I was living in fear everyday, not depressed. I thought that might cause problems and later in life it really did. I went from 20 mg to the maximum dose, 60 mg, later in my life. I am 37 now and In the last year, i very slowly, which is really important if withrawing, went down from 60 mg to 20 mg and I will eventually stop it for good, which I thought I would never be able to do because everytime I tried to quit, it was just getting worse. I tried quitting for years but trying to quit cold turkey or too fast is 1 of the worst nightmares I went through. I also learned that eating and digesting food creates serotonin and a problem that I had for years was eating before I was going to bed, also with only having moved around very little all day, which logicaly made me understand that I wouldn't digest a lot at night, then I wouldn't be hungry during the day so I wouldn't eat during the day, so I wouldn't secrete serotonin during the day, so I would have no energy, I didn't even have the energy to take my shower. Not spending energy during the day made me sleepless at night and eating before going to bed made the cycle keep going. Leave yourself 3 to 4 hours to digest before going to bed is best and whether it's best for you to take your meds earlier or later during the day, the most important is to take them at the same time everyday to avoid an imbalance which is 1 if not the main reason to take ssri's. Taking paxil really helped me, even saved my life. It blocked a lot of my fears but also took away a lot of my emotions which I figured out, had everything to do with my motivation. To me, taking paxil was lifes way of helping me confront my fears and stop me from ruining my life and others with my irresponsible behaviors. I hope with all my heart that my experiences will help you and others. Thank you so much for taking the time to have read my book of a comment lol
