  • Prozac or Fluoxetine is a medication that is used to treat mostly Depression but can also be used to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and a severe form of PMS called PMDD . Get a Doctors perspective and learn the symptoms of depression and anxiety and how this medication can play a role in you treating it. You'll learn about both common and some of the more rare side effects that you should watch out for.
Prozac (Fluoxetine) is in the family of medications called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI). They influence the amount of Serotonin that is available to help with mood and other functions of the body.
With depression you tend to have symptoms like difficulty concentrating, remembering things or making decisions. Fatigue, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness or hopelessness. People experience sleeping problems, mood swings, a loss of interest in things that you once enjoyed, appetite changes, generalized pain, persistent sad or empty feelings and even suicidal thoughts or attempts.
Those who are going through anxiety you may have symptoms such as sudden and unexplained onset of a rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, pain in your chest, fear of dying, numbness and tingling throughout your body or just a generalized feeling of anxiousness all the time that you just can’t explain.
If you are experiencing these symptoms you need to seek help from a professional. Go see your doctor and get an accurate diagnosis to figure out a good treatment plan for you. Remember depression and anxiety are real medical conditions and should be treated just as diabetes or high blood pressure need to be treated. You shouldn’t feel any different treating any one of these medical conditions.
We'll give a good overview in the video of the common side effects but its important to remember that most side effects if any are transient and can be minimized by working with your doctor. We will discuss more concerning side effects such as serotonin syndrome as well.

Just decided to leave my own two cents, I’ve been running on Prozac for around 2-3 years, believe me when I say the side effects go away, I had the issue with too much energy, I was sleeping around 2 hours a day and was NEVER out of energy, this subsided after around 3-4 weeks, I’ve never encountered ANY other side effects ☺️

Fluxotine saved my life. As I’ve struggled with social anxiety for most of my life, and my anxiety got tremendously worse when I was abusing alcohol. Which led to suicidal contemplation. I highly recommend prozac/fluxotine.
    *RECAP*
I stoped taking Prozac due to personal issues in my relationship, so I stoped abruptly just so I can abuse alcohol.

@@aliciam7774 Yes, Fluoride is a key ingredient of many psychiatric drugs like fluoxetine (Prozac®, Fluoxetine®).
Fluoride is a neurotoxin (despite being heavily used in dental application, municipal water and the pharmaceutical industry), there’s plenty of correlative data to insinuate this, and it passes the blood brain barrier along with many other things such as aluminum.
These drugs work in the short and intermediate term for many people but I feel as if there may be long-term ramifications that aren’t looked into enough.

Blimey you sound exactly like me. It took doctors 30 years to diagnose me with GAD by then I thought i was a alcoholic I was literally on suicidal death row for 3 years until I took prozac . Setraline failed effexor xr was to mindbending to stay on lexapro did 30 percent of the job. There is a reason prozac is so expensive and that is because it is the best 👌 there is a reason it was the only antidepressants to become a fashion trend and that is because it generally works on most people that truly need it. What people have to remember is that these medications are for genuinely ill people who have absolutely no other way out not for people who are depressed because they can't be bothered to go to the gym. I am saying this because these medications have to be for life for people with disorders. Obviously people with disorders have the option to take them or not but if a person needs them they need to remain on them because of the way they work. No antidepressants works once a person stops taking it. They are reuptake meaning they use the serotonin we have more efficiently and block it from escaping the brain to quickly, stop taking and your back to square one. This is why people can commit suicide also they think the medication didn't work but all they needed to do was keep taking it. They all work differently on different people so don't stay on one medication to long if it's only slightly helping when potentially it could work 100 percent or near to. It took 6 weeks and 2 days for me to get any benefit from prozac and 11 weeks before it started to eradicate my rumination and crippling worry. I can drive and breathe at the same time now it's not perfect any days or all day but it's a world away from a mind that was telling me to kill myself sometimes 5 hours a day. I haven't drank for 3 years and will never drink again it's just asking for a breaking bad meth lab in my mind to turn me crazier. I have a chemical imbalance I don't need to add to it. When I got my diagnosis for GAD I finally understood alcohol was my escape from my overthinking but without medication 💊 I'd still be fooked.

The Dr. Gave us all a 20 question checklist. At the time I didn't know ADHD and ADD wasn't limited to just children. I was adamant about finding my answer.. The more questions I answered I noticed they seemed to be going in a certain direction. I didn't see what my mother and friend had written. When they all were put together they matched. The diagnosis wasn't easy. At the end he told me he believed ADHD was a high probability. He wanted to do a placebo test. Have me take notes to see if the meds worked. I'd be very careful and if I was asked for the “safest" it would be Effexor and Cymbalta. Just before Covid I lost my Doctor and my meds. It's a complicted story but once you are on this med you will be a prisoner of it the rest of your life and you are vunerable to people who might want to hurt you or have biased against you. .They are lying, it is an extremely addictive med. I would only take it as a very last resort after trying everything else from Diet, exercise, to MOVING. Many people live in the wrong environments for their constitution. Please do not take this medication unless you are on you very last ropes. I am now in my sixties and when you get older, they lose interest in helping you that is the bottom line. Now I am off the med and deeply depressed with no where to turn and my trust in the system broken. Also, under no circumstamces are you to take the Experimental Covid shots if you have been taking an SSRI. It is potentially deadly and they are not telling you. Only take this med if you are prepared to stay on it permanently or switch around SSRIs the rest of your life, and I mean until death. They put seniors at the end and in hospice on Floxitine or other SSRIs often without thier knowledge to try to make the end less horrible. Only in extreme circumstances should you try these drugs, they spoiled my life and made it worse. I became slave to the drug and ended up never doing much of anything constructive with my life, just going from appointment to appointment year after year with people using me. Also, only if you have a support system willing to defend you help you and care for you should you have adverse effects from these drugs! There is nobody for me to hold accountable now.

It's to soon for you to have any side effects other than the immediate ones like drowsiness , see my comments below and quit this drug immediately. After a while it will be nearly impossible to get off, they are lying. Most people end up spending years weaning off of it after taking it only a few months. There is something in your LIFESTYLE making you depressed; drugs, alcohol, oh and by the way, SSRIs can't be takin safely by people who drink alcohol. That's 80% of all people in the world.. They do not tell you the truth espacilly if they are on the left. Stop taking it NOW, and find another Doctor who gives you the hard line; you aren't eating right, getting enough exercise, or pursuing a life devoid of any meaning or substance. Cell phones are also making people depressed. Find a charity to volunteer or work for. Give your life some meaning and purpose. @@FeatheryBird I’m no doctor, but 26 years on SSRIs sounds like an extremely long time to take them . It seems at that point, it’s almost safe to assume that your body is depleted of serotonin and dopamine to where your body is fully reliant on the drug. Everyone’s chemistry is different, and it honestly just sounds like your chemical balance is really off. The idea that your body has stopped interacting correctly with these chemicals is further implied by you feeling depressed even after 26 years. I know a guy who was on it for 4 years and claimed even that was much longer than it’s intended to be used. I’m unfortunately at a point where when I try to climb out of my hole it just grows deeper and Prozac (along with Hydroxyzine and Vraylar which I have also been prescribed) are my last hope, unless the medications cause bad results in which I’ll have to consult my doctor and change. Honestly I’ve smoked marijuana for three years and it helps with my depression a lot. I know some people who claim it helps with anxiety and while that may have been true for a bit, I get pretty anxious on it now. It should be used in moderation and obviously only if you’re in a legal state (though I won’t say whether I’m in one or not), but it could definitely be an option. Again, take into consideration that it’s also something you can get dependent on and make you more depressed the more you use it, causing the time you’re not high to be a pretty rough experience. Really hope you find some peace soon.

Been on CBD treatment for about a year, no more anxiety, panic attacks and I participate in random tox screens (employment) and have never had a dirty test result.
I’m not saying that it will provide same results with everyone as we are all different but it is just another possibility to look into.

On a certain level, we have a drug store in our brain, the neurochemicals that show up in flow: so dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin. If you were to try to cocktail the street drug version of that, right, you're trying to blend like heroin and speed and coke and acid and weed- and point is, you can't do it. It turns out the brain can cocktail all of 'em at once, which is why people will prefer flow to almost any experience on Earth. It's our favorite experience. It's the most addictive experience on Earth. Why? 'Cause it cocktails five or six of the largest pleasure drugs the brain can produce. We're all capable of so much more than we know. That is a commonality across the board. And one of the big reasons is we're all hardwired for flow, and flow is a massive amplification of what's possible for ourselves.

Side effects, might be anxiety, tiredness and uncomfortable at first but when your over it, your over it without drugs. I have CPTSD and I have figured out just how much my own attitude can make me make it or break it. I was like that for 6 weeks and 2 days. It was like the breaking bad meth lab in my head , it tends to make anxiety worse before it makes it better then all of a sudden you will hopefully wake up one day with a smile on your face your anxiety should suddenly drop and you won't quite believe just how amazing you feel. I doubted it would work because all others I tried failed or made me even looper but prozac is a joy to behold. Just keep swapping medications every 3 months if they don't feel like they are working don't settle for feeling OK when one medication might make you feel great. Ptsd is a tricky one especially mixed with ocd if this doesn't work paxil can be good for ocd but mix it with cognitive therapy treatment that is crucial you have to understand how your mind works to live with the way you are and to accept that you are the way you are. If you think negative and play the deal a bad card game then you will always be dealt bad cards. The medication should make you feel at least 70 percent more normalised and settle down the overthinking but will it sort out flashbacks that is highly unlikely and you will probably sleep very little or to much for a couple of months.

I took Prozac for two months for depression when I was about 15. I believe it started triggering my manic episodes almost daily (Didn't realize I had bipolar and some psychoactive symptoms at the time), I assumed it was changing my personality or the like (My therapist didn't seem to have functional communication with my doctor, and my counselor who claimed they did, had shown null signs of communication as well), so I dead quit Prozac.
I recall no issues from doing this, but I am curious as to why that might cause any detrimental issues... possibly within the context stated.

I hope someone can help me. My daughter is 10y/o. Was in the hospital in Dec, 2022 for observation for suicidal throughts and was there for 2 wks and was given Prozac 10mg daily. When she got out she continued the rx until now… I noticed she was super hyper for the first 3 wks and then it seems like she was doing ok but just 3 wks ago from today she’s been getting in a lot of trouble by the school, talking back to everyone.. just always angry. It’s been almost 3 months… and I’m very worried. I have been contacting mental health clinics and they do not see children under 12. She blew up on an assistant principle today… and that is not like my daughter… when I spoke to her today as well… she asked me to take her off the med… she says she feels irritated and her anger just comes out… Idk what to do but cry almost everyday…

I was put on Prozac 20mg in 09/1991. I took it religiously because I believed it was going to help my clinical depression. It didn't. It only numbed me but I still felt depressed. It didn't help my "Pure O" form of OCD, either. Then after about 3 years, I started acting out in an extremely anti-social way. If I hadn't stopped taking the Prozac on my own in 08/1996, I'm sure I would have ended up in jail. I never suspected the bad behavior could've been brought on by the drug so I never talked about it with the psychiatrist. But when I decided to just stop taking it I was surprised when the bad behavior completely disappeared after about 2 weeks, which I found out is how long it takes for the drug to be eliminated from the body. Prozac, for me, was the devil in disguise.
