- This is how I charge my battery for my stihl sga 85 backpack sprayer and stihl fsa135r string trimmer or weed whip. I have an aftermarket 12v everstart 750w inverter I purchased for around $60 at Walmart. It's wired from the battery across under the hood to a hole in the firewall under the steering column and up to the inverter inside the cab. 10ft of heavy Guage wire, terminal rings, inline splices, electric tape and zip ties need to be purchased separately. The batteries we are charging our stihl ap 300 36v batteries. We purchased 2 and they get us through an entire day rotating them in and out of the truck.
Does your truck sometimes not turn on because it drains the battery
Good job Zack
Thanks Frank!
I have that same inverter it works really good
No kidding! Great minds think alike 😉
Do you need to have the truck running? If not how many times can you charge the Stihl AP500 S battery before you run out of power to start the truck itself?
@@sirvozelo1 it will charge for a while with the truck off. It wouldn't be good to leave it charge for hours with the truck off, but quick hour or less jobs with a good fresh truck battery is just fine. My truck does have a larger alternator too just an FYI. It charges the ap300 in about 45 minutes not sure on the ap500...
@@bladezllc I have all batteries from AP200 to AP500, the point is that if I go out in the woods to cut trees I sure like to use the MSA 300 because is fast and powerful I have bout blades for it 18" and 16" but even with 16" cutting logs were I use about 80% of the blade in 15 minutes I am out of power on the AP500, I have 3 of those AP500 but to cut continuous is not enough, is good as you say charging in the truck but if we need to have the truck running then kind be like using a gas saw. Hope Stihl comes up with better and long lasting batteries sooner. Other thing I notice, a week ago I was cutting tick logs next to the house so I can charge all the time but using the MSA 300 continuous the battery AP500 not last long and got hot then it takes my charger 500 about 20 minutes just to cool off the battery so it can start charging back ,if I was to charge on a truck then it with be 20 minutes more for the truck battery.
@@sirvozelo1 yeah that's tough! I drive after using mine, from job to job so it makes sense. I have to run the truck. The chainsaw would definitely be a different story for sure! I never thought about that.. that's a scenario where a gas saw would make more sense.
Is your inverter pure or modified sine? I have the exact problem and I was wondering which inverter would be the best without ruining the expensive Stihl charger. My Charger is 510 W. Not sure if a 600W inverter would be ok either. Thank you a lot!
Have you not use any fuse?
I didn't but it probably wouldn't hurt to use one.
a requirement in all electrical cabling applications -even the dome light is fused
This video gives me some options thanks
It's worth the little bit of time it takes to install. Thanks for watching Darwin!
BLUETTI Portable Power Station EB3A has a 60 dollar discount, it 299 with 60 off, mine is Tacklife w30 300wh. You can charge stuff on the go or if there is a power outage.
Have you used this Bluetti to charge stihl batteries, how many time can you recharge batteries if you have. Thanks
@@bretforfar6582 No I haven't but my buddy Micheal Douglas lawncare has the unit on his youtube channel using the Stihl batteries, I have a tacklife 300 watt solar generator that can run a 50 inch for 5 hours
Can't tell but I think I got the 1st one again
Someone else commented but it was not appropriate so I removed it. Ha! You're first!
Not sure if that's really fair but I'll take it🤣
I just got one 750 whats power converter I try it on my jeep recharging one AP500S battery an using the AL500 BATTERY CHARGER with jeep not running, but about halfway of the AP500S battery recharging the alarm went on and I have to start the jeep motor. On the jeep I have a 70 whats battery, so very much is no use in my case if I need to have the Jeep running is kind having a generator.
Fire not good. You really do need a 75-100 amp fuse at the battery side and #4-#2 AWG cabling to that 750 watt inverter. Unfused, that cabling you have running through the engine compartment and under the steering column is unprotected -a short to ground causes fire. Fire not good.
Have you ever had a dead battery on long jobs of charging multiple batteries
@@fusionmechanic1 you'd kill the battery on long jobs
Do you need to run the truck to charge it ? I have the 300.4 charger and I have a diesel 2 battery truck. We stop at properties 30-60 mins at a time. Do you think I’ll have issues not being able to start my truck as the charger will be running all the time
From my experience I don't think you'd have an issue. As long as you are running the truck for a while between jobs it should make it.
@@bladezllcI think I messed up. I made a set up in my trailer with an inverter and a big battery and hooked it to the seven pin. Problem is the charger drains that battery and just over an hour. I thought it would run for a few hours off of that battery and the seven pin would charge the battery back up, but I don’t think that is the case. I don’t think he has enough power coming through the seven pin to charge that battery in there when I drive. So I may have to move it into my truck like you did that way the alternators are charging the batteries.
I got the commercial edger and the step down weedeater. I'll have to get this inverter. I got the big everstart v8 jumper box so that would be nice incase I kill the battery. (It wouldn't charge the stihl batteries) even though it has 500w and the charger is 300w?? Oh well
Thanks for this video hopefully it's still working out
Yeah, thanks for the comment! It worked great all last season. I'm excited to see how this year goes. You'll like that commercial edger, they work great 👍
@@bladezllc being able to start hours before morning rise is a game changer! Lol
@@07350zhr it really is nice!
Not this brand but I just buy one 750W inverter, I have a jeep Suzuki and the jeep battery is 70w. I try yestarday having the jeep not running and using the Stihl charger 500 and the Stihl battery AP500S, the battery was discharged and it starts charging but after charging 2 cells the alarm on the converter went on for what I understand the jeep battery was going down so I stop and was able to start up the jeep then after 5 minutes I connect it again and the alarm went off. In my case with out the jeep running I am not able to fully charge one batterie.
@Carlos Afonso yeah that 500 battery is a big one. You'll probably have to charge that one between jobs.
I would purchase a solar generator so you want have to run your truck to charge the batteries.
