  • Dr. Peterson's extensive catalog is available now on DailyWire+: utm.io/ueSXh
Christopher Rufo cast himself into the middle of controversy as he sought to bring light to the inner workings of American academia, and more specifically, how our institutions have begun to funnel in a new and ultimately detrimental worldview, critical race theory. He sits down with Dr Jordan B Peterson to discuss the subject, delving into the true threat that has breached thousands of publicly funded schools.
Rufo is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Before this he was a visiting fellow for domestic policy studies at The Heritage Foundation, as well as a Lincoln fellow at the Claremont Institute, and a research fellow at the Discovery Institute of Washington. In his early career, he worked in the documentary filmmaking field, where he saw first hand how impoverished communities in the United States operate, and more appropriately continue to struggle under a cycle of seemingly inescapable destitution.
He is the author of two books, “No Way Home: The Crisis of Homelessness,” and “How to Fix It with Intelligence and Humanity.” Today he publishes a show dedicated to these topics on his UA-cam channel, “Christopher Rufo Theory."
Christopher Rufo's early experiences led him to publicly stand against the rapidly growing movement we see today to teach Critical Race Theory in schools, focusing mainly on K through 12. He argues that CRT looms as “an existential threat to the United States.”

As a teacher, I say your work is critical. Ideologues disingenuously claim CRT is not taught in K-12 schools, but this philosophy permeates everything in our public schools. The precepts of CRT as it pertains to education, primarily closing the achievement and discipline gaps, have become much more important than the fundamental purpose of education, which are the 3 Rs. I have taught in multiple schools and I see terrible societal costs in the coming years.

I believe James Lindsay reading Paolo Friere chapters, and how his evangelist named Henry Gireaux imported an Americanized version of Friere into schools. Friere stated he was a fan of Che Guevara, Mao, and Lenin.
Friere also believed in a similar culture war as Gramsci, which Rufo is discussing. What Friere developed was a _method_ of turning all education into Marxist form of Sunday School, using standard lessons as simply a medium to politicize.
Point being that the 3Rs and workplace competence simply "reproduces the existing system", which is rotten and not desired, because it's not communism, so therefore it is by definition oppressive.
I could add more but not necessary.

As someone who was born and lived in Soviet Union and now living in France I deeply appreciate and agree with every bit of what is said about Soviet system. But it's not just it. The problem is deeper.
I think that Jordan Peterson doesn't vocalise enough (due to his diligence I believe) in his elaboration on why the privileged ones turn into radical left. Yes, to some degree there is a guilt and lack of discipline and thought this guilt it's they way to exercise the power and get some recognition (this was said in the podcast) but what I saw and understood it is way beyond that. This feeling goes further up until the point where their desire to do some good with not much effort transforms to desire to judge and desire to unshakable authority, where they don't even need to explain their words (don't forget, they are lazy), they are accepted by everybody, meaning they want to basically become and replace God. This itself is as close to sociopathy as I can tell.

    • @Seaby41
      @Seaby41 Рік тому +27

I need to get this straight myself. I've had a bit of a culmination of work (heavily directed by Jordan Peterson) that had resulted in a pretty big psychological moment for me. The religious connotations are undeniable. I haven't found God. But I've found something like him. Many of the religious stories tie in very well with what I'm experiencing. I have much time for religious stories, archetypical stories as a kind of representation of psychological truths. A more easily accessible one.
I think that might be one of Jordan Peterson's greatest gifts to the world. How to find God as a representation of science. Perhaps that's what we can sell to these people... Seems to be working for me. I'm no religious man but anyone who instantly dismisses God as a possibility is a fraud. It shows this flawed thinking that leads to atrocities. Because what do you know? Nothing. So how can you be so arrogant as to dismiss that entirely. That flawed thinking and arrogance is what will lead people to believe the kind of things that result in atrocities in the name of the greater good.
Agnostic is the route for me. Spinoza's God. Christianity, Shinto, Buddhism, Greek Mythology, Roman Mythology. Star Wars, Marvel, DC.. Whatever they all represent a certain truth as Peterson would describe.
I'm just getting a conversation going here.. Writing some of my thoughts to help come to my own conclusions. But as I said at the start what drives these people and how we can help them is what I am trying to figure out. We all need to figure out. There but for the grace of whatever you consider your God (and everyone has one, if you don't know you'd better find out.. Is it money? Women? Pride? Greed? Or maybe something better than that but if you don't know. I think you have a problem).
I think for starters they are rationalising their actions so that they can see them as being morally right. They are 100% hypocrites trying to claim they have the moral high ground. But they don't follow through very far with it. If they did they would soon correct their points of views. The contrast between their words and actions is undeniable and they would find a better way.
I think the moral high ground is the key. They believe they fight from there and we cede it to them. Show them the frauds that they are, show them the true moral high ground.
We don't need to engage with them on their terms and we don't need to hate them. We don't need to engage at all. Often that is the best way to handle it. But they insist on intruding into our lives. We need to take that away from them as an option that's probably the real battle that needs to be fought. The moral argument that needs to be won. But (and here's this religious stuff) we need to be able to forgive. Forgive them and forgive ourselves and make sure they know they can the same.
One of the great revelations I've had lately is doing nothing can be positive. Doing nothing is doing something. Jordan Peterson taught me that. I've always seen doing nothing as doing something negatively. But I've realised that often doing nothing can be positive. Mostly in letting people figure out their own lives, their own problems. Especially people being irrational, hysterical. Walk away. You engage, you lose, they win. You can help them if they want it.. But if they don't, you can't force it. If you don't engage and they want to, they'll figure out a better way for next time and you can have a better interaction. If not.. Don't engage.
But that is the key. They are trying to force their view on us. We need to take away force as an option. Which.. Involves the use of force to protect peoples ability to live freely.
This is a psychological problem but. They talk of the patriarchy but I think it's the matriarchy we live in. The Oedipal Mother writ large. But they made these global problems one person at a time and that's how we need to fix them. One person at a time.
(wow. What a novel.. I reserve the right to edit this when I get to a computer. No proof reading..ill check it over later)

I’m a big fan of yours, from Vancouver, BC and, began listening to your UA-cam videos about 4 months ago and began reading your book - 12 rules for life, which I have discovered is falling entirely in line as to how I have been living my life for the past year. I suffered some major crises in my life which included the sudden death of my daughter at 34, my only sibling, my brother, at 56, also sudden, my dad at 96, and my husband leaving the marriage, all within a 3 year period. Two and a half years ago I suffered a breakdown where I was involuntarily hospitalized, certified under section 23 of the mental health act, treated like a criminal and was grossly mis-diagnosed by a psychiatrist who didn’t do her due diligence, with bipolar disorder and subsequently forced injections of anti-psychotic medication for 1 year that made me anxious, gravely depressed & suicidal for the first time ever in my life, when my problem turned out to be one that required the complete OPPOSITE treatment - medication for ADHD, for which I was just recently diagnosed with, and successfully treated for, after 59 years. I have accepted 51% responsibility for all of it (because anything less than 51% means I don’t own it and therefore can’t fix it). I have come out a different, more responsible and learned individual, ironically happier and more driven now than ever to accomplish my goals, which are similar to yours, I think.
What concerns me is this, especially among Gen Z and younger Millennial populations, however no age demographic is immune: More and more people are willing to forgo their individual rights/freedoms in favour of averting responsibility. Our current government is capitalizing on this behaviour in the interests of maintaining/increasing it’s power and appeasing the people by creating a dysfunctional parent (government) - child (citizen) relationship. This creates a vicious cycle where we become even more reliant on government as we simultaneously lose our passion to improve. A very successful First Nations Chief, Clarence Louie, one of the first Indian Bands to capitalize on the use of their land by developing a winery and surrounding condominium complexes among other amenities, once told me “the quickest way to kill a man is to pay him to do nothing. He put his people to work which gave them a reason to get up in the morning, and the rest is history. They became among the healthiest/wealthiest Indian Bands in the province. Unfortunately, I see us heading in the opposite direction with all of the government handouts. Although I’m not a fan of Trudeau, it seems his government policy is responding exactly to what it is the people think they want rather than what it is they need. Younger generations who haven’t got a clue about what it is to live in a socialist country are the most vulnerable and what I would say to them, is “be careful what you wish for”. Just my two cents on that.
I would really love to discuss a few ideas I have about how I might be able to make a difference in changing current attitudes. I connect well with young adults as I spent several years working in a high school library in addition to raising four children (3 Millennials; 1 Gen Z, and, for the first 4 years, co-raising my granddaughter (my deceased daughter’s child, who is now, 6). I am devoting my life to seeing that capitalism continues here in Canada, we gain back some freedoms and to make the world a better place. You can learn more about me as I post on all social media platforms under my name-my profiles are public. Thank you for your tireless, dedicated work to this end and I look forward to listening to more of your videos and podcasts.

Most do not realize it, but one of the major purveyors of CRT in North America is a company called PEG--Pacific Educational Group, run by Glenn Singleton. Their CRT-infused brand (Courageous Conversation) first hit our schools in Saint Paul, MN in 2010. By 2017 220 major market public school districts had contracted with them. In other words, in many districts this damaging rhetoric has been going on for quite awhile. My husband was cancelled because of it, and was chased to 4 districts in the state and then separated from his teaching career in 2019. He was also "investigated" by the MN Board of Education, but in the end their case was dropped because they saw how many St. Paul teachers were being targeted by their own district. Since then CRT blankets the land and my husband can no longer teach.

Side note: THIS is how you do a remote interview! So many other youtubers/podcasters etc who do remote interviews usually have the host using studio grade recording equipment (dedicated microphone and good camera), and then they usually have their guest on Zoom or whatever, and the host's production team will just do a screen recording of the Zoom call and use the audio from the Zoom call. Clearly Jordan has a clever production person who asked the guest to set up his own studio recording equipment, and simultaneously record high quality video and audio directly at the guest's end, then, the guest's production team send over their high quality audio/video to Jordan's production team, who sync everything up, and they have a fantastic high quality video to upload to youtube, rather than having to make do with the guest's shoddy webcam, airpods microrphone, and poor wifi connection meaning we viewers end up with all the connection glitches and poor quality that occurred during the actual call. So yeah, props to Jordan, and/or his production team, or whoever made the decision to go the extra mile and request that Christopher Rufo actually roll a recording while they were on the call to have a much better end result.
Other youtubers/podcasters who do remote stuff like this should be taking notes. Even just asking your guest to set up a tripod and record video with their iPhone while they're on the call on their laptop would be so much better than lazily screen capturing the zoom call...

I'd been impressed by Christopher Rufo in his other interview with Dr Peterson, so had to come back for more. What an engaging and articulate young man. It is always interesting when someone who started out quite far to the left then changes to a more conservative approach. It's impressive too that he is someone who is taking action to change things, and he gave examples of states which are trying to "level the playing field". The champagne socialist types always have an inner contempt for the working people. One of the "new" Labour politicians here in the UK said of his party's mass immigration policy of the early 2000s that "they wanted to rub the Conservatives' noses in diversity", tells you everything you need to know. This was an amazing discussion. I am a White male. I’m also a quadriplegic from a spinal cord injury at age 16. So I do check off one of the proper left wing boxes. But I have rejected that status. Prior to age 16 I grew up in a primarily Black neighborhood. Trust me, I know what it means to be on the short end of the racist stick so to speak. I am tired of people having to apologize for being “white“. Or for being male.…. we have nothing to apologize for and no original sin. At least not for my family which emigrated to America from Ireland in the late 19th century. Nor does the rest of America or western civilization need to apologize. All of humanity have done horrible things to one another over the millennia. Thank God for people like Christopher Rufo. He is younger than myself but seems to have a very solid handle on the falsities of the current governmental and educational narratives. I’ve grown to see straight through the falseness of the left-wing narrative. i’m 60 years old and I am a relic even in the eyes of my own family. Thankfully people like Jordan Peterson and Christopher Rufo carry-on the fight for the truth very well. But the nature of humanity is fallen. And I’m afraid no matter how much we try, even if we correct the course which we are on, we will once again fall into Tribalism, envy and again under the thumb of empty vessel politicians or academics promising milk and honey for the proletariat. All of this while enriching themselves and leaving the mess for others. We have no idea how this is going to end for America, western civilization or for humanity in total. But there are many false gods dwelling on our educational campuses from kindergarten through doctorate school. I would love to be wrong but I think we are in for one hell of a storm of human upon human deprivation. God help us!

I liked the "Idea" of free choice for education but that in my opinion does not take away from the existing problems we continue to have in all levels of education today. When we keep trying to reinvent, find other options without dealing with the problems at hand, I think we're just prolonging the problems rather than dealing with them. My opinion only. thanks everyone. And thanks again Jordan and Christopher for your discussions and insights! Cheers

At one point the Ed Dept. kept track of test scores. I don't follow it anymore but I used to regularly check what trends were occuring in public schools. In all categories test scores were steadily declining until the schools started dumbing down the tests at which point I stopped following the Ed Dept.'s contrivances.
When public schools were under the auspices of the state Board of Education students received better educations. The federal DOE is nothing more than an incubator for teachers' unions.

I think an important step on the way to reform is building up alternatives that demonstrate the gap in viability between the bad and the good concept.
If you skip this step, your only point of reference is an image of a hypothetically better past that people can easily argue against.
A real and present proof that things could be better than they are is the ultimate wake up call.
      Beyond the conceptual level:
If you cannot convince the country of your idea - even with evidence - then a good way of forcing change is attacking their business model by redirecting potential customers to an alternative.
Competition is one of the best ways to discourage complacency.

Here in Victoria, Australia, CRT has infested ALL of the public service. Members of the public service are required to undergo unconscious bias training, etc. We have suffered from years of rule by a far left tyrannical dictator, who would rival Trudeau. But, the supposedly conservative opposition is just utterly pathetic. It is getting close to a point that I may have to consider moving, essentially becoming a political refugee, from my home state. I do not have any particular confidence that, even if the conservative party wins the upcoming election, that they will actually make any reforms to the infested bureaucracy. It will fight them all the way, and fight dirty, it would take a strong leader to even make a dent. I fear that the situation will get MUCH worse before (or even if) it gets better.

I'm just here to say THANK YOU!! for fighting for us men. I have always believed that men were awful, they suppressed, discriminated against, oppressed women and their potential. My teachers (male and female) told me: men (in the past) could become noble men, merchants, could vote, educate themselves and had more rights than women. I sometimes felt very bad.
When in actuality we didn't have many rights or opportunities as they proclaimed we had and that majority of men were farmers or something. Only a small % of men were actually rich. You opened my eyes.
Again: THANK YOU!! from all of US men!🙏🙏
