I am the same, I have an EOS R and an R5 and it doesn't bother me in the slightest which one I use. They are both great cameras. I keep different lenses on them so as I don't have to bother wasting time changing the lenses.
I completely agree about not trying to force photos when it relates to DR. You’re really the only person I heard say this. Hats off to you. I always tell people this for years. Also just for my R for $800 used. Mint !
The biggest difference is the screen. It’s both bigger and has more resolution. I also find myself to be more deliberate with the R. One card slot is my only issue. I do make sure to transfer over wifi first.
I have two EOS R cameras, which I've had for several years. I love both of them. I shoot professionally; studio and location and shoot mostly models, gr. seniors, portraits, head shots, etc. And like you I don't shoot video. The eye focus is great, the colors are the best and the ergonomics make it easy to work with the camera. I shoot a lot with the EF 28-200 f/2.8, with the adapter, but I'm considering getting an RF 70-200 f/4.0 like you have. I think it would perform well for what I do. Great video, and I like your photos, nice model and lighting. Looks like natural light shots?
For those who are not interested in professional video but just photography like me, the Canon EOS R is still a great camera, being in some situations much better than the R6 for photography.
Interested in picking this camera up. Currently use a 5DM4 and I love it, but wouldn’t mind something additional. I also shot a wedding with my 5D and an R5 and just really got a chance to see the difference in the DSLR v Mirrorless. It’s a totally different experience so I got me thinking about this camera since I don’t want to spend that much to get an R5
Hey, just found your video and the EOS R is still my go to camera and i would love to get a Eos R II... Dont like the R5 or R6, they are to big for me and the EOS R8 still lacks some functions. I am missing a mid prised 30Mp Camera and I would love to see IBIS... Lets see what the retro Camera will look like.... Since then, I will continue to use my EOS R.
@@MattLeeMorgan I 100% believe that. I’ve seen some crazy deals on new and refurbished bodies. Next to the S5 this is probably the easiest modern full frame cameras you could get into. Not a bad deal for sure.
I just got an R with battery grip, nifty 50 1.8, 16-35 F4 for $1500. I think I got a good deal based on this review. First mirrorless. Wish me luck. Lol
Wait until you try the Tamron G2 f/2.8 lenses! I love the prices when used, that the lenses can be calibrated with my PC and having the firmware updates with the docking station. I don't own prime lenses because of their wide view glass and I think the advantages of prime lenes have been diminished with these new lenes. Opps... I forgot to also mention the amazing image stabilization!!!
Yeah i came from a 5DMKIV. Loved that beast of a camera. But i wanted mirrorless. This is my first one as well! I’m still getting used to it but i LOVE being able to see what my image will look like before i take the shot! Huge advantage! Also i got my EOS body for just under $1000. A sigma 35 art for under $500.
Does the Canon R keep the separate configurations that we have established for video and photography ? So we don`t need to reset the settings each time we switch bettween the 2 shooting modes. This involves basically the settings for ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
I just purchased an R for under $1000. I HATE not having the joystick.. but that could be because i just haven’t played with the touch and drag AF feature so i dunno
I chuckle when others post things like, "Should you buy an R in 2022?" Uhm, why not? I have loved mine, and with stabilized lenses, I can't say that I've missed any shots I really wanted (I do know that focus tracking and animal eye detect are significant improvements in laters models.). I will give a plug for build quality. The first summer I had mine, I managed to fall off of a mountain trail with it in hand (Not my fault! The trail gave away, and I went with it.). Fortunately, I walked away from the situation with just a cut on my arm and a bit of plant matter in the hot shoe.
Took your indirect advice, put my Leica on the shelf, and went and got my first Canon. All I can say is WOW. I know gear is only part of it but I had no idea how limited I had become. Lenses are stupid expensive but ill get there. Compared to my Leica and Fuji the AF was shocking😂
Yea I love my Fujis and leica for fun creative work but when it comes to showing up in a professional setting, getting the shots and going home. Canon/Sony/Nikon are the only choices.
@@MattLeeMorgan I did really want to love Sony but in-store I hated the menus and I could tell in my day to day it would drive me crazy. Im a media guy for a fire department so I need quick. Really considering the 70-200f4 with the current discounts….thanks👍
Was considering the R or R7 when changing from Sony. I professionally repair canon cameras and I gotta say canon makes solid cameras. I ended up getting a Fuji because my wallet isn't fat enough for canon lenses. RP is also cool though. 1 rank below the R but still takes the same pictures and is much lighter. Also has a nice mode dail. The only beef I'd have with the R is the view finder. Just doesn't work for manual focus (tried the R7 in-store and was blown away by it's focus peaking so I considering getting it for that)
Hey Matt - will the Eos R work well with radio triggers for studio flash? I shoot with 5D3 & really like the look of this R in 2023 - most of my shooting is with Elinchrom Strobes & radio triggers.
Great review. I am an 86 year old photographer and I shoot with both my Canon R and my Canon R6. I love them both.
Can’t go wrong with either

I agree for the EOS R. Will keep mine for a long time , Along side my 6d.

God damnit finally a photographer whole kept it simple and didn’t nitpick the camera for still photography….awesome video

And here I am still using the Canon 5D mkiii and wondering when I can afford to buy that canon R camera after 5 yrs.
Weird poor flex.
It's a tremendous photo camera. You can grab these $900 used if you look around hard enough.
I bought one for $1200 Brand new before.

I constantly pick my R over my R6…..CONSTANTLY 👌🏾
It’s weird, I just love the R for some reason. The grip is perfect.
Please share your reasons.
Great video had my R for a year now!
Love it

I lost one of mine to the ocean once, lens was scrapped but fixed the camera for $300

yep works great, but the processor is very slow when tethering. I use my R6 for tether as the R is painfully slow to transfer.
@@MattLeeMorgan Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm surprised that the more modern Eos R might slower than the 2012 5D3 (which is pretty good)
Great insights, subscribed
Happy to help
I have been seeing a7riii for $1100-$1400 in my area. Only reason I wouldn’t get an R.
Fantastic video sir👌🏾

Nothings wrong with an RP. It’s a fantastic camera.
TRUTH great camera i love my RP
Hobbyist here, I bought one in 2022 July
