Hey Everyone! Today we are unboxing and checking out the brand new Paranormal Rascal bass from Squier. This short scale bass delivers some old school sound through two Fender designed wide range humbucking pickups paired to a toggle control, master volume, and master tone. The sherwood green finish is absolutely spectacular and has a bit of a color shift in the light! Let's check this little Rascal out!

I honesty think Lobster looks better without the beard. Maybe if he grows it back, he'll keep it shorter. I have a beard (shorter). Not a fan of the long hipster beards.

I dig the matching headstock. Wish Fender would do that more often.
Totally agree. I really don’t like when a bass has a rosewood fretboard and then a natural maple headstock. Squier seems to do matching headstocks more than Fender.
I had a new 69 Fender Mustang bass, had Blue Metalflake body and headstock, with Two Light Blue Competiion stripes
also metalflake, with Pearloid pickguard, it was beautiful for a small bass
It irks me that you’re much more likely to find a matching headstock on a $200 Squier than a $2,000 Fender 🤨.
Squier definitely snuck the whole 2023 paranormal line-up out there with very little fanfare. I ordered the Nashville Strat based on the Anderton’s demo alone and I hope I won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to the full Rascal review!
Dang, it sounds good! Might be the old school tone machine I've been looking for. The clean shaven look is working too
not that it matters, but for those who are curious, the body is a fender Bass VI body, which has the bottom half a jag bass and the top half of a P-bass. the neck has a coranado bass headstock, with a mustang bass bridge. Just a light spec for those who are to antsy to wait for the full review. Super cool bass, and even cooler demo honestly, a great first impression demo.
The original Fender Rascal bass with the lipstick pickups was pretty rad, and I like the looks of this one even more and the sound seems on point. Looks like a winner!

It’s a Jazzmaster body. The 2023 Paranormal series is insanely good. I have the Jazzmaster XII and just got the Strat-O-Sonic in red. The entire line is flawless.

I really love these short scale/"mini basses" and Jr. sized models. I was looking at the Glarry GW101, Jackson Minion and Gretsch G2220. they all seem so cool and full of character.

Hey man I’ve been watching your work for a while, and I gotta say I think this bass is my fav. The back pickup sounds just like a stingray, the neck pickup is like an EB-0 bass, and both sound like a dark J bass. Incredible versatility

Definitely excited for the full review. I have to say, Squier has been on something of a roll recently IMO - sure QC is hit and miss at times but they've made some very likeable basses recently

i had the same experience out the box too! great setup ( relative to what Squier usually gives us LOL) and superb build quality for $450!

Huge relief seeing your first impressions with this bass very positive and enjoying it. As soon as I saw these I instantly had GAS for one but was a bit unsure about the pickups without actually hearing one first. If anything negative, I'd say I'm a tad meh on the Coronado-style headstock but that's just personal esthetic preference and not really a big deal whatsoever in the grand scheme of things. I might just pull the trigger on getting this one already.
Nice unboxing. I am considering that bass. So far all of the Squier China basses and Guitars I've owned are really nice.

I should note the bass sounds killer with effects. I have one. You can definitely go into Kim Gordon territory with it. Killer short scale and finally a great alternative to the mustang. The original rascal cult classic. This one is next level.

I was expecting this to sound like an EB-0 with two Mudbuckers but damn, a total pleasant surprise with how that sounded. The bridge and middle positions were especially good

I peeled the pickguard off mine last night and the humbuckers have 4 conductor wiring! I ordered a couple mini switches for series/split/parallel modes.

Lookin' good bald face! The bass too. It looks amazing and sounds great - very vocal sounding. I'm not a bridge pickup kinda guy, but I can imagine that bridge sound being great in an old-school R&B mix.

Not bad for right outa the box. Looks good and sounds good. Makes me want to go try one even though I don’t need another bass. If that came in burgundy mist I’d have to own one. It has thick lows, bold mids, and the highs seem shy but not harsh. Waiting for the full review.
Looks great. Sounds very good as well. I just purchased a squire mustang bass last month, blue with the racing stripe. I dig that bass. So this one might be something I look into down the road. Thx

Sounds great, looks great, skinny neck. Damn! I'm working on a project bass. I only got so much money. But that thing looks GREAT! First Squire i've ever considered owning.

Love the shape of the body and the split mudbuckers! dig the green shade as well, Squire is definitely exceeding Fender in quality, the only thing is they would have to get their setups consistent

I got mine one week ago and it is a real great bass. The Pickups needed some attention, they were to near to the strings so they sounded distortioned. But after that i‘m really in Love with it and it will be my main bass for live Gigs!
I love that it's nothing muddy like I was expecting (more nicely "middy"). Like it's sound very much. May need to save for one-on looks alone, great, and even better if it's a truly nice bass. Many thanks for the review! 🎸 (If you are able to, please let us know which Hipshot model would be a direct retrofit later, as I would give it an Xtender right away.) 👍

Good tho hear about the low weight since my Fender Rascal and Bass VI are both a bit on the heavy side. Also the colour is awesome! Glad I ordered the green one.
The ampeg pairs beautifully with this bass.
Having seen Lobster’s other review on this plus the Epiphone Newport that is very poor QC, this one is much better and I think I could really live with this bass. Love the color and tone of this thing. Especially those huge full range pickups with the sound they have.

I own one a Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass TB, which had a widerange humbucker in it until I came to the realization that a Darkstar would be a drop in replacement for it. This bas with two Darkstars would be really really cool

I love that tone and the pawn-shop aesthetic. Looks like the only color options are green and black.
Sounds much better IMO now that they’ve ditched the lipstick pickups. Really like the color and especially the matching headstock but I’d definitely want to put something like an antique ivory flake pickguard on it. Seems like a fun bass to own and play.

Really? I’ve bought four MIC Squiers and never had an issue with fret sprout on any of them. Which is more than I can say for many MIM Fenders I’ve played over the last three years or so. Guess a lot depends on the climate where you live and how they’re stored.
