This is inhumane, even if they were given 90 days what if you had not have money for shift, secondly government should compensate the those who were affected
For those who don't know: 1. Some of the people living in the Woodley estate actually bought the houses and were given titles only to find out a few years later that it was not allowed. Their titles were cancelled yet they weren't refunded the money that they paid. 2. Yes they were given 90 days notice to vacate but the demolition team actually came earlier than the agreed time. The houses were supposed to be demolished from Tuesday but the team came on Monday night when some had not finalized moving their belongings and were asleep in their houses. Due to the night demolition, their furniture and personal belongings were stolen. 3. The electricity for this area was delibaretly switched off for approximately 45hours (Monday night to Wednesday evening) so that they could get away with demolishing the houses at night. As a result of this, there was high level of insecurity in the neighbourhood.
They were issued with a 90 day’s notice but opted to disregard the notice. This is not the failure of government but rather a group of individuals who disregard a notice issued by the government.. how do you compensate people who just failed to comply with rules

After losing two court cases to stop the evictions what were they waiting for ? How do you ask for compensation after a court order to vacate. Or I'm I the one who is missing something here ?
It seems they were too attached to the property. But the sight of the scavengers swopping in for debris is fascinating, alafu they gonna resale those stones/timber and profit. sigh.
Council houses are handed from generation to generation as they are very affordable. You will be surprised the amount of rent paid for such huge houses in Nairobi. No one ever vacates. My heart breaks for those affected.

@@abristo254it’s true. As a landlord you can be frustrated. You send a notice, not one, many and even go there everyday pleading asking the tenants to move in advance. You are a fool. This are county government houses built in the 50s and the county government collects rent from them but now wants to put up new houses consistent with the demands of the present Nairobi. So for this people to ignore many court orders and a 90 day vacation means that the government should be cursed. I repeat again, you are a fool.
@TimelyInspiration-qp7yi Mr.Wisdom this is a phenomenon called gentrification. Many developed countries try to preserve history by upgrading and expanding housing rather than demolishing and they fairly compensate. Many of the people in Woodley were not compensated fairly or given alternative accomodations just promises which the county govt has failed to deliver on. Clearly you live in another Kenya. This affordable housing scheme is another goldenberg in the making. Try to do research before calling people fools
@@MichaelMengo Housing development of the 50s sounds like the history we would like to keep? This is not exactly as Lamu or Sicily. And do tenants require compensation in the first place... and your anticipation of corruption means that no development should take place?
@@MichaelMengo You are a twisted thinker. Cities develop and move forward, even Manhattan had to demolish residential houses to pave way for office high rises.
