People always say that the 2011 final was the most dominant final performance in the champions league. He truth however is that Barcelona were actually in the receiving end of the most dominant final performance. And worse, unlike United in 2011, they went into the match as favourites.

this was ac milan's 5th champions league win, at that time real madrid had 6 if you think this through. that was the closest gap between the 1st and 2nd winners overall in the ucl. now it's 13 to 7 madrid over milan. that clearly tells you that it was the italian club that went through the struggles, while the spanish club was dominating the competition.
it's a bit disturbing that Madrid (and Barcelona) can keep their head above water thanks to the Spanish banks while other teams are less fortunate. Look at Parma...Milan will be back on top because it has a worldwide fanbase.

That was a superb Milan performance as I never would've expected that result against a Johan Cruyff side. However, with the passing of time, it is truly sad that AC Milan have declined so much. That era had sheer quality in every position, but those types of players are no more in today's game for Milan to call upon. Barca on the otherhand have continued to flourish.

Some great players on display such as Romario, Stoichkov, Koeman, but Savicevic outshone them all - what a player, and what a goal.

@@keyuantejohnson9919 I'd say Capello's Milan, just because of the players at his disposal, especially if van Basten was fit (shame he wasn't for this final), but even without him, Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Savicevic, Desailly, Boban, Albertini, Donadoni, Massaro - they were so strong that Jean-Pierre Papin and Brian Laudrup didn't even make the bench (although the three-foreigner rule undoubtedly played a huge part in that). Tuchel is a cracking manager, and has one of the best squads in the world at his disposal, but that Milan side was another level.

This is perhaps the only goal that Desailly ever scored in his life. What an amazing goal in a champions league final for a defender that never scored any goals in his whole career.

I just remember Savicevic's unbelievable lob, which summed up just how superior Milan were. Him and Massaro were too much for Barca. I don't think anyone expected 4-0 though. I don't recall ever seeing Barca so dominated in a European match, bar the drubbing from Bayern, but they went into the '94 final as favourites.
This was back when you had to have good national players because only 3 foreigners was allowed in your team. Now, even more so, you can buy your way to success. Most top teams field 7-8-9 foreigners nowadays.
