Mel C interpretation of Mary Magadelen was exceptional to include the subtle symbolic ways she interprets Mary's change of direction in her life. This score always bring a tear to my eye. Mel C manages to draw you in to the pain and conflict of the character in a natural and subtle way. Never it and never over playing it just SPOT ON. What a natural talent.

Indeed. Despair and hopelessness came to bear as Judas' betrayal of Christ culminated in his eventual arrest. It was sorrow too much to bear. Clearly, the pain was palpable in their voices.
This is a fantastic song and a humanistic point of view. Jesus was crucified and Mary and Peter don't know what to do or say. "I think you've made your point now" ...very strong. Their asking the Saviour to call a truce and let everything just be as it was....but it cant be.
God bless you for posting clips of Arena Tour... Also Mel C is absolutely stunning in the role of Mary Magdalene, I love her and this entire production so much!
And Could We Start Again is a hella powerful song, it would’ve been even better if more productions of JCS had Judas in it (as Broadway 2012 with Paul Nolan, Josh Young and Chilina Kennedy did)
I never ever thought I would like ANY of the Spice girls, but all have shown their talents. They have also become even more attractive with age. The exception is of course Victoria.
Best production of JCS since the original album with Ian Gillan and Yvonne Ellerman. Mel C was an absolute revelation as Mary Magdalene. Stunningly good.

I am a HUGE fan of this musical, and Rene Castle's version of Mary M was incredible. But I am beginning to think Sporty has done the best overall portrayal of this character. Maybe not in voice, but in gravitas. So good.
A rare thing for me to say... I'm not a fan of pop singers in musical roles. I prefer actor-singers. Here the blend of pop voice and musical voice is brilliant. What helps is Mel C's is very distinctive.
Fun fact, this track actually wasn't in the original concept album for the show. Instead, it was added for the 73 film and then I think they just kind of kept it!

love this show, thanks for sharing another great song from it. Really enjoyed this production of it so much. Great film, apart from the autotune. Are you planning anything for the 10th anniversary next year?
Mel C recorded "I Don't Know How To Love Him" for one of her albums and so did Tim with "Heaven On Their Minds" too, both are available on Spotify. Sadly those are the only ones available on Spotify from this version.
Too often the role of Peter is just overlooked or cast horribly... this is the best I've seen yet. The 2000 movie was pretty atrocious in every way EXCEPT for this song, because they also used a baritone for Peter.
@@troyandrew9702 it's the best overall, but this song ("Could we start again, please?") is completely unmemorable from the 1973 movie. I didn't like the Peter in that version at all.
To each his own. Every Easter I watch all the versions of this song on YT and, while I have my favorite (the 2000 version), I've never seen/heard a bad production of it. There's no such thing as an "atrocious" version of JCSS.
I really enjoy this song. I could be wrong, but wasn't this written specifically for the movie? Has it been inserted in other stage productions since the movie version of JCS?
I used to wonder why they repeated the same lyrics over and over. Now I think the idea of this song was to represent a desperate prayer which the characters repeat over and over to deal with the reality they're facing.
Tim Rice did add a couple more verses for the twentieth anniversary tour in about 1990, but these two extra verses have hardly been heard since, which is a shame. If I were directing a production, I would certainly use them if I could. For the record these two extra verses are:- Wish I could reassure you, Wish I could talk to you and tell you how I feel, This was unexpected, what do I do now? Could we start again please. You surely know I love you, But something in me stands aside and lets you slip away, Perhaps that's what you wanted, perhaps I want that too, Oh could we start again please.
in the australian production with johnny farnham in the role of jesus they left the song out. i went to hear this passage specifically and was very dissapointed.
Is it just me or does this song sounds like one that Meatloaf would have made? In fact it sounds a little like Bat out of Hell’s interpretation of What Part of My Body Hurts The Most

It's just a generic prison, every production of this has their own way of styling the show, some have been more sci-fi, some are modernized, but the same message comes through.
