  • Quick run thru on how I have my new 2021 Hobie Outback set up thus far for fishing tournaments the rest of this season. I'll be adding and changing things some as the season goes on, but good to go for now.

I would definitely suggest ditching the dog leash and getting a YakAttack LeverLoc. Tight lines!

Dig your set up. I have a 2021 Outback and love it. I upgraded the rudder with the Boonedox rudder and would definitely recommend it. Very easy to install and definitely more responsive than the stock rudder.

Thanks!! Yeah, rudder upgrade is definitely on the list. Thanks for the tip.

looking good man! Picked mine up yesterday. Got to demo it along with the PA 12 360. I actually liked the Outback more and preferred the simplicity of the 180 drive over the 360.

Thanks man! Simple really is better sometimes. Outback is so crazy fast and turns on a dime as it is anyhow.

Nice setup. I got the 2022 and just installed the rear h-rail set. Can you tell me what type of container that is you have under the seat? I've been having problems finding one that fits.
    Thanks.

Hey Paul, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, I don't believe Plano makes that box any longer. Its basically a deep type 3700 size box. I have since added the Snipe Air Industries seat riser kit, so I have tons of space under the seat now. I highly recommend it! I'll be doing an update to my setup for the 2023 season here shortly, so keep a lookout for it!

Great set up! I also like to keep the right side clear for exactly the reasons you mention.
One question: Do you strap down your tackle boxes in the H-Crate? Or what happens if you (God forbid!) flip? Do they just float?
    Thanks

Thanks man! Check out my newest update to my setup in my video from a couple months ago. Funny you should ask about what happens to the boxes when you flip. Done it, some floated and some didn't. Needless to say I've been working on switching them all to ones that float! Also, I don't plan to flip again anytime soon!

@@mhkangler I never PLAN to flip -- have done that 5 times! 2 were rookie errors (1 getting in, 1 getting out), 2 were me grabbing structure to stop the kayak while in current (1 branch, 1 bridge top), and 1 reaching behind me to get a pickerel out of the kayak (fell off the hook behind me). Luckily all ended safely.
Only lost gear on the most recent flip (grabbing the bridge -- in my defense, I wouldn't have been able to ride through the opening, so something had to give!), but that was certainly $100+. Usually, EVERYTHING is tethered, but for some reason, I had my spinnerbaits and some other tackle loose.
Now I've switched over to Buzbe boxes -- they float! Plastics in other boxes/bags will be tethered.
      I'll check out your update!

@@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole just saw Tactical Bassin cover those Buzbe boxes and how they float. I'll be looking into them.

@@mhkangler I love them! After one of my spills, my Plano Edge boxes had water in them. All my regular plastic boxes had water in them. My Buzbe had NO WATER at all.
Originally there were 2 sizes: Colony 15 and Colony 28. They correspond to 3600 and 3700 sizes. BUT the "15" means it will hold 15 1x1 bins, while the "18" holds 18 1x1 bins. So the 18 is nearly twice the storage.
I bought Colony 15 starter kit: "The Starter Kit offers 4 standard Colony 15 boxes prepacked with custom bins, 2 empty Colony 15 boxes, and a ton of extra internal bins to customize the layouts however you want." But now I've upgraded to 2 Colony 28 boxes. I've given some of the 15 boxes away, but still had enough bins so I could buy an empty 28.
Now they also offer a Colony 28D Deep box (need different bins) AND a Colony 8T Thin box. I got 4 of the thin boxes for specific techniques: wacky rig (hooks, o-rings, worms), Ned rig (Ned baits, Ned jigs), drop shot (drop shot weights, drop shot hooks -- I like the VMC spin shot), and terminal tackle (assorted hooks, weights, clips). I'm hoping these will all fit in my Hobie bin. They do outside the kayak. We'll see when I get the new Hobie PA 14!
I also use the Buzbe rod covers / sleeves. I think they offer more protection for my rods in the kayak rod tubes.
As you can tell, I love Buzbe!
