Useful video. I’ve been considering buying this exact kayak. I really appreciate hearing what people don’t like, it helps me answer the question of “what I’m willing to put up with or not”. Thank you.
Great video. I bought the 2024 Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 this past May and I absolutely love it. Here in Delaware we have several ponds, calm water lakes, and a few calm rivers. You are right Old Towns are built like a tank with a little extra weight. I have a bed extender for my truck which makes it easy to load an unload and my yak-attack wheel cart makes water access a breeze. I hope whatever you get in the future will better accommodate your needs so you can continue to enjoy fishing.
Bought a new PDL106 this summer - I paid $2600 + tax, which didn't come to $3K but I assume you rounded up. I agree with all the things you liked about it - it's sturdy, versatile and comfortable. It's also heavy and requires some muscle to move around, but I'm getting used to that. I considered a boat as well, but for the lakes I like to fish in this was a better option at a lower price. It's all personal preference. Thanks for the video!
I have an Oldtown 120 sportsman pdl which I just bought after owning 3 powerboats over the last 40 years. I love boats but had to get away from the high storage and maintenance costs for a while but I’ll eventually own both agin at some point .
Those are pretty much the best kayaks on the planet. My nephew has the other one and you’re right you damn near need a trailer and my nephew is 6’ 3” I’m 5’ 11” we’re pretty good size boys and They are heavy duty and they are heavy by yourself I know they have that little drag plate back there, but it won’t last long. I like your overview.
Thank you, it's by far the best yak I ever owned! But I hate my limitations with any kayak. I want to go explore and fish so many places I can't get too on the Tn river or my local lake. Thanks for commenting ❤
Your thumbnail spooked me, because I just bought my OT Pdl 106 in July. Oh no, what did I miss? But I see your point and don't have those problems. I can get it on top of my mini-van. And I prefer smaller lakes, of which Minnesota has a few. After a life of working with machinery, I don't want to hear a motor. The only annoying thing is the time it takes to break it down to put on the van, and then to put it back together. But I figure I'll get faster when I get a system. I'm still doing some kind of modification between every trip, so I've never set it up the same way twice. I guess mechanics don't retire, we just find something new to work on.
Pretty much the same opinion I have. My wife and brother n law got kayaks so I figured why not, i'll start fishing again. bought my Vibe Shearwater with a motor and all that junk and it was like fishing out of a coffin. That lasted about 6 months. Sold my kayak and bought a used 17' boat with a 60hp motor and couldn't be happier. I was 4 grand into the kayak and was only 2 grand more to buy my boat.
Lol fishing out of a coffin! I think a lot of people possibly start with kayaks and eventually go to a boat if they like fishing. I see it on marketplace all the time, for sale kayak, bought a boat. But some stay with the yaks. Thanks for watching !
Kinda funny i was looking at these for a while now and i ended up going with just a small boat that me and my son can both fish out of for way less .. nothing fancy just a little project but its cool to see my 9 year old come up with ideas for casting decks and whatnot 🙂🎣
Another pro of your kayak is that is pedal driven meaning you don't need any boat registration compared to a trolling motor version. Once a trolling motor is installed you will need boat register.
Thr trolling motor is a game changer for sure! Mine still goes slow 🐌 because of the weight 😅! The boat won't be anytime soon but a goal, thanks for commenting!
@tuckerandi the seat is great no issues, and the weight can be a bit of a challenge but I can do it most places no problem by myself. With a trailer would be much easier. Thanks for commenting!
So maybe i can help someone decide. First of all it sounds like to me you should have just purchased a boat. Of course you cant go as far in one day but I wouldn't say your limited. In fact i think its just the opposite. You can go where boats cant go but i suppose it depends on what your fishing for. Oh and i purchased my 120 pdl for 1800 on sale. So actually these kayaks are the best bang for you buck without a doubt for a pedal drive even when not on sale. I've owned most of the "best kayaks" in name brand at least. Including the new native titan x. Hated that kayak. But the sportsman pdls in my opinion are the best kayaks out there. They just feel super premium compared to native or hobbie. And way cheaper then both.
Interesting I bought the Old town 120 12' ft kayak for $2400.00 how did you pay $3000.00 for the 110 kayak? I use mine on the ocean, on the Columbia river and of course the local lakes. I swear by Old Town quality.
Love my pdl 106, would never get rid of it for a boat, but i got a great deal on mine, and used my savings to add all the accessories i wanted!
It's a great kayak, thansk for commenting 😀
Great info 💪🏽
I would still take the kayak all day but I totally understand your point.
Thank you, appreciate that!

Yep thanks for commenting, enjoy your new kayak!
Nice video Angie! Good INFO!
Thank you

I can see storage would be very expensive if you didn't have the option for it at home. Thanks for your input!

Your reasoning is very well articulated.
Thank you, may not pertain to everyone but my experience for my fishing.
Very informative video! I can’t wait to get a pedal drive. Keep being awesome 💪🏻 😎
Definitely a Game changer. I still use it even though I have a trolling motor to go up and down the banks with, hands free fishing.

Great choice, can't beat that time with the kids!

Yes that could be a problem for some, isn't a concern for me. Thanks for commenting!
I love my perception outlaw, especially since I put the trolling motor on it, I only paid $620 from Dunham sports, good luck with the boat thing

Great job 👍
Thanks 😊
Great video very informative.
Thank you glad you found it informative:)
@@Angiefishing1 The weight was one thing I wondered about and how comfortable the seat would be, my old back would need a good seat lol.

Have the same hat lol and thanks so much for sharing
I'd my favorite hat, and it's getting in bad shape, I need a new one! Thanks for commenting !
Once you get into a boat with a motor you have registration, gas and you need a boat ramp. Kayaks can get into shallow water easier.
True, I mostly use boat ramps as it is. The kayak is hard to put in non boat ramps. Thanks for watching!
Interesting review Angie!
Pretty sweet kayak!
I think you saved a lot of money in the long run with the kayak.
So are you getting a boat???
Definitely save money on not running gas in a motor. Not right now, but eventually, I want too. Thanks for watching!
I bought the same one new for 2200 out the door last year from a store.
Awesome, l hope you have lots of fun fishing adventures from it!

Bass pro shop several years ago, and taxes my friend.
my only reason for not doing it over again... PRICE only.. so many cheaper models on the market $2500 is not a joke
Yes lighter weight. I hate loading the thing up huge chore. I have a cheaper one but I hate it now lol. The comfort on this kayak is amazing!
Nice 💛💛
