It was part of local 'Shadow factories' there used to be one on the lower Perford road out of West Byfleet on the corner of the road roughly opposite where a road called Old Acre is. The Webridge buildings here were near what was the Cobham Bus museum.
incredible difference when the leaves are off the trees and rather frustrating as I'm totally unable to locate it on google earth as none of the shed bases show. Must have driven past it hundreds of times and had no idea anything was off the Seven Hills Rd like that. Great shame my neighbour no longer with us as he was an apprentice engineer at Brooklands in the 1950s and stayed right until it closed.
I've been driving past this site for years wondering why it isn't being built on now. Toxic ground maybe? The 'concrete sided pit' looks rather like the top of an underground shelter, which has caved in the pipes being part of the roof reinforcement. The square block being the access hatch?
As the UK;s aviation industry wound down there was no longer a need for these satellite sites and both were abandoned and left as you see them here. This site has now been cleared and will undoubtably one day become a small housing estate. Being in the St George's Hill area (one of the richest parts of Surrey) I am sure they will be very nice houses and who knows it may get a name like Vickers Court. The other site will in time follow suit. You need to keep an eye on the channel as we also filmed the other site and I will edit and post that when I get time.
Is there a way that I could contact you. I really admire your works with Brooklands museum. And i would like to learn some more about the ways you create these fantastic videos.
At the moment i understand the owner is in talks about its future, but has done a wonderful job of clearing the site of all the debris and undergrowth that had enveloped it. In view of where it is I assume one day it will be posh houses. Regarding the pit, we think it is more than that, because if you look closely at the pipe they all have holes drilled in them to allow the contents of the pipes to come out.
What's happening with this site now? I drive past it daily and it's a complete mess. The roof of the building has gone, and the site is covered in piles of rubbish far back into the woods. There are some caravans painted matte black, and some sort of mannequin tied to a tree. A complete eyesore!
I don't know, but my guess would be the planning people have not yet agreed, because when I filmed it we were told that a small number of house would be built on the site and be finished by 2020.
I think their going to build a sustainable development on that land, I live opposite and have seen sustainability guys look at the area 👌 great move by the owner 💚
I suspect the author of this piece was referring to the fact it was TOP SECRET when it was built during the war, but maybe that is a little hard for you to understand!
@@SpencerJones01wasn't that secret, lots of people knew where the sites were but just didn't talk about it. Where I currently live there were 13 pillboxes in our front field overlooking an invasion route, our house housed 80 troops to protect the road and munitions railway, when I lived in Weybridge we went through loads of old WWII abandoned temporary buildings, nothing secret just people were discreet

Fascinating, thank you very much, Andy.

There is planning permission in place I understand for 5 up market properties but that is just hearsay so may not be completely accurate
Is it being demolished?
What happened to the site further along the road it all came to stop for some reason

What's happening to the site now after all these years? Concrete walled area may have been some form of bunded fuel storage area.

I'm thinking that the area with the tubes would have been a cooling system for the environmental testing of devices perhaps?
It certainly is one of the suggestions that would fit with what can be seen of the remains

"There is nothing secret about this?" I used to live in Brooklands road and played in it in the 60's....

@@SpencerJones01 Just as you said 😏
