Thank you for providing this great review. I'm a new knitter and I've definitely determined that I prefer the metal needles for their smooth glide. I also know (for right now) that I much prefer to make baby items and at most, adult-sized hats. So I'm finding that the smaller circumference is what seems most appropriate. This video has been helpful for my buying decision. I've also been introduced to the magic loop technique but that would only come into play once I get down to the smaller rounds.
Hi! Thanks for this review. I just ordered a pair of shorties... This kit is interesting but first, let's see how it feels comparing to the mini circular needles!
I use it for sleeves too! But going from top down, the stitches are already there. So I don’t need to cast on. For sock knitting I use my other mini sock set. And when I’m above the heel then I switch over to these red lace shortie set.
You can use the cable cast on or the long tail if doing cuff down. I like either. But you can do toe up also. The kit being shows has three cord lengths so you can make short circulars and with 2 with 6” and 8” cords you can do toes without having to use DPNs, as I have replaced my DPNs so much as I lose one or leave it in an unfinished project. I was avoiding toe up but found a stretchy cast off which isn’t ugly. Now they are my favorite.
Debbie Doctor The Blue Shortie set does make a 16” circular. I’ve used the Blue Shorties to make 16” circulars for a hat I recently made. Also, ChiaGoo has both large and small adapters for interchangeable, which can help turn your Red Shorties into 16” circulars.
Hi Lynne! I just asked our local needle expert this same question. She says it's possible - but this set isn't the best way to do it. You would be best off buying three ChiaoGoo 2" cables and six 2" or 3" tips in the size you need separately, because this set comes with just one set of tips in each size and the cables in the Mini set start at 7". I hope this helps! Let us know if you have more questions!
Hi Bernie! The Mini set comes with 5 tips, in sizes US 000 - US 1.5. You can find all the breakdowns of the different kits available from ChiaoGoo in the description here: www.jimmybeanswool.com/knitting/yarn/ChiaoGoo/TWISTRedLaceInterchangeableSets.asp?showLarge=true&specPCVID=84940?advSourceID=58

I LOVE my set of Shorties, I’m currently knitting a fairisle Tam and it’s flying using these needles. One of my best knitting purchases ever.

courag1 I prefer to cast on DPN’s and then later transfer to circular. In my opinion, using the short minis are not that great.
GMonity, review is good but I’m not sure y I would want to do all this fiddling before I can knit
I thought they'd make a 16" circular, which is common for most hats??

The regular mini set has 4” or 5” needles in these diameters with longer cables
I think that 3” needle plus 2” needle plus 5” cable plus 6” cable connected would make 16”?
Can you get longer cords for the shortie sets incase you want to do magic loop
Hey Joanne, great question! Yes, ChiaoGoo's normal length cords work with their short tips as well.
Thank you for an informative video. Would this set work as a flexi double point?

This was helpful. Thank you
Could you share the name of the yarn you are knitting with? Thank you.
This yarn was actually dyed by Rachel! You can check out her site here: www.unraveleddesigns.com/
