Just for anyone wondering why the needle lengths are slightly smaller than the indicated size, its because they also count the metal part on the cable into the needle length, that's also why the cable length is actually slightly longer than indicated, it is only measuring the cable length minus the metal part. Hope that was said clearly enough.
I ordered the yellow shorties set (5.5 - 8 mm) for knitting the more chunky sleeves in the round. They arrived yesterday and I knitted a whole sleeve the same day, couldn't stop. I love them! These shorties are the best for me for sleeves. Pointy tip, good for cables and lace but also just for smooth sailing plain knitting. Would love to get the blue set as well, and the red one. But they are indeed pricey. Who knows, maybe in the future...
I like your videos
I'm always amazed how quickly things knit up when you don't have a cable in the way like with magic loop of DPNs! 🌸
I love these sets of needles! For me they are the most comfortable needle lenght and they don't hurt at all! I got really used to them and now when I have to work with longer needles they feel wrong 😅 I bought a lot of extra cables and use them for every project, even if it's not for a tiny circumference. Anyways, great video! ☺
A lot of it is about getting used to them! They really are great 😊 thank you
This came out at just the right moment. I have been looking at these sets and trying to decide whether to buy or not (for sleeve and sock knitting)
I'm glad my video was useful (and at the right time!) 😘
Got mine about 3 years ago. Love them. Just FYI, the needle sizes are actually engraved on the needles. No wearing off! Yay!
Thank you for this discussion on these small needles. I just bought both sets due to suggestions from other knitters. Chi Goo is an excellent brand. I have 2 Chi Goo bamboo interchangeable sets and love them. I have had them for a couple years and do alot of knitting. I have had no issues at all with them. I do have some metal interchangeable to fill in as have found bamboo is more difficult to find. Thanks..great video.
Thank you 😊I've never tried their other kinds of needles but if I ever have to buy new ones, I'm probably going to go for them
Thank you for sharing your experience. Very helpful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you, I am currently looking at these. Now to find the difference with the other Chiagoo sets (you wouldn’t happen to know their differences would you?). Appreciate your videos. Bye from Australia 🐨🦘👋🏻👋🏻
The difference is the length of the needles. You can get sets that have 4" lengths and also sets with 5" (as well as the 2" and 3" sets in this video). You can get a complete set of diameter sizes or buy a half set in whatever length you've chosen.
They have three sizes which relate to the diameter of the needles. They are minis, small and large.
The minis range from 1.5mm(US 000) - 3.25(US 3).
The small range from 3.5mm(US 4) - 5mm(US 8).
The large range from 5.5mm(US 9)-10mm(US 15).
There are alot of variations and different combinations but if you just keep in mind the needle length first and then what size diameter you need for your knitting you can't go wrong. Hope that helps.
@@juliedrakeArtist wow! Thank you so much 🧡
What a complete and thoughtful comment! Thank you so much for clarifying everything 💕
I have several chiagoo but I have found the shorties come apart despite tightening well.
I think this was a good and thorough review. I purchased the blue set in 2021. I use them all the time. I love them, and have never regretted investing in this set. They have a new shorties set with larger sizes and the new swivel cables.
Thanks Claire. I was just wondering a few days ago where I will find a review of these shortie sets and here you are with the video. Was very informative thank you.
Thank you for your comment 🌻
Bonsoir Claire! thanks for sharing your feedback on the sets! As I have written to you before I also have both of them, but I just got the red one and have not had time to use it yet. The fact that I got the red one after a while of having and using the blue one does mean that I think they are worth it. I use the blue ones all the time for sleeves and I think they are great. I bought them after having used the longer needles set, from Chiagoo and finding them really good. BUT there are two negatives for me, the major one could be that I find the tiny needles tiring for my hands. I cannot knit as long as I usually can, I need to take breaks after a while, especially when using the shortest ones. It is however a learning curve and does get better with use, still not for everyone in my opinion (but I really don't like magic loop) the other minor inconvenience, that does however get on my nerves every time is that the little black pouch that contains the needles is not well done and every time I open it the needles all fall out no matter how careful I am, which is potentially a way to loose them. I need to find some time to figure out a (pretty) solution, other than wrapping an elastic maybe around it. Does this happen to your set as well? I have heard in general very mixed experiences so I think it is very subjective, just as you said, but in the end, since I bought the other set, I really do enjoy them... take care 🧶🧶🧶🧶
It also does happen with my set. It's a little annoying but happens more with the blue one than the red one for me. It's not that big of a problem to me but if I ever lost a needle, that would definitely bother me. I'm sure a strap around the sleeve could work, I'll see when I have some time to allocate to that. Hands getting tired is definitely a problem with these sets but I find that it does happen to me whenever I'm using thin yarn, no matter the method used. Thank you for your comment 🌻
So timely for me, thank you! I have been thinking of asking for these for Christmas this year, this was delightful and helpful!
Thank you 💕
I brought the red set for knitting socks ,it’s great set but the cable is a little tired for me to knit socks.I really love that can change different length needles , but I don’t like the cable , so I brought the hiyahiya 9 inches fixed circle needle,It’s really great for me to knit socks.😂
A lot of it has to do with personal preference. I'm slowly getting really into sock knitting and I'll for sure compare all the different methods ☺️
All the other cable types from Chiagoo will fit as well. If you prefer the Chiagoo red cables, the nylon, or the ‘grey’ spin set any would fit.
Weak review. Does not seem very knowledgeable about these shorty needles. Not helpful.
this was really helpful in deciding which one im going to ask for for christmas! Im thinking the blue one since I dont like doing magic loop for sleeves 🫶
Happy I could help. If I had to recommend just one, it would be the blue one, I use it the most personally 😊
