Staci, you forgot to tell everyone they come with a cord adapter for the large and small cords- they are extremely useful for bigger projects without having to buy longer cords. I LOVE my Chiagoo interchangeables! Great investment! Thanks for this review!!

Chiaogo is my all time favorite needle, I’m trying to rebuild my knitting collection, I lost most everything in a house fire. At least I know what my favorite Needles are, so I don’t waist my money buying things I think will be great, and only use once.! Knitting has helped me keep my sanity these last few months!!

I'm a needle collector of sorts and have tried just about every brand that has been manufactured in the last 40 years. I purchased the two sets you reviewed and have been working with mine for a while now. I can't say enough good things about them and consequently, they have become my "go-to" needles for every project. I find the point on them to be perfect, even for lace projects and the needle material (stainless steel) to be smooth but not too slippery. The cables are the icing on the cake! Being constructed of flexible, multi-strand, nylon-coated, memory-free steel cable provides just the right amount of structure - not too floppy, not too firm, with no memory which blows the competition away in my opinion!

Love these needles. I keep a 40"/000 in my notions case for emergency lifelines. The cord has never kinked or curled up. It has saved the life of many projects!

ChiaoGoo are the best needles ever and I have you, Staci, to thank because I bought a 60-inch ChiaoGoo needle from Skeino when I ordered a Miss Grace shawl kit after your demonstration. I was blown away by how flexible the cord was - no fighting with it at all!

I have both sets and love them, but my set came with 5” tips. The minis are also now available with 4 or 5” tips (purchased separately). Thanks for all of your terrific UA-cam videos. I would not be a Knitter today without your help and it’s long past time I thanked you! 🌸

I'm glad you tried Chiaogoo needles and liked them! I have a small handful of favorite needle brands, but Chiaogoo is the ONLY brand that both ticks ALL the "must-have" boxes for me and has NONE of the little annoyances: kinky cords and cords that become stiff over time, joins that are either rough or slow me down, or tapers that are too long or too short.
I'm not crazy about the thicker cables for the large sized tips, but they sell adapters so one can use their thinner cables with larger tips. They even have smooth edges on the lifeline/tightening tool holes.
I've bought my CG needles piecemeal, so never got a case, but after seeing yours I'm going to buy one (they're available separately)
    Great review. Thank you!

I have been using the red lace tip set, that you have there in the larger case, for YEARS and they are always my "go-to" needle set!
I love those needless... I have 3 sets of interchangeable needles (because more is more) and I ALWAYS end up grabbing those or I end up transferring to those before I'm done with my project because I get fed up with my other sets.

As a relatively new knitter I bit the bullet and bought the Chiaogoo set and have been nothing but impressed. In an earlier video you had mentioned your preference for 4" needles vs. 5" and I got the 4" version. I have made multiple hats and scarves with these and have never had an issue. I simply love them. I have been buying individual sets of Bamboo DPNs for finishing work, so I don't have a full line of sets to match all of the sizes yet. Thank you so much for your videos as they have helped me learn to love knitting.

Thank you so much Staci for reviewing the ChiaGoo and other interchangeable needle sets. I started with the Clover ones because that was all that was available locally when I started knitting. I wanted to knit socks, so I bought some laminated wood circulars online in very small sizes....that was an expensive mistake! Although beautiful and nice to knit with, they are very fragile. Since I have nickel allergies, I was very reluctant to buy nickel needles. I had been looking at the ChiaGoos but thought the price prohibitive. Thanks to you and all the wonderful comments, I indulged in a set of minis for now. Can't wait to get them!

When I started out knitting, I got tired of buying onesie-twosies and read every review out there for sets. I wish I had seen this review back then- I wouldn't have been so nervous about spending what I did on my Chiagoos! I got these exact sets and have never, never been disappointed. I'm working on a baby blanket now and I don't have to worry at all about folding the work up and tucking it into my bag- the cables are as straight as ever, even after being in storage for a YEAR (that's a long story, nm). So glad you like your ChiaoGoo sets, they are my favs! I bought the 5” steel tip set several years ago and have since purchased the minis and also 4” bamboo tips in the sizes I use most, because I like using bamboo yarn and occasionally other ‘slippery’ fibers. Those tips are quite nice also and fit the red lace cords, so you needn’t invest in another full set to have them. Happy Knitting!

I recently bought my first ChiaoGoo circular needles to try out and LOVE them! I have been knitting for not quite 1 1/2 years and had a 3 circular needles that came with some other needles that I got off of Craigslist. The smallest needles worked fine, but the other two sizes drove me crazy because of the cords. I am looking forward to requesting the entire set for Christmas this year as I work on improving my knitting skills. Thank you for doing this review on them. Staci, To screw and unscrew the needles and cords on the mini sock set, Chaiogoo gives two holes, one in the base of the needle and one near the tip of the cord. You can use a "key" in each hole for a more secure twist and tighten!

    • @vegas1961
      @vegas1961 6 років тому

Jayadancer1 Interesting. My mini set doesn't have any holes in the needles.
      Edit:
Just saw this after clicking on another's link...
"These MINI tips are ChiaoGoo's "Next Generation" solid stainless steel that have a tightening hole. This will enable knitters to use a second tightening key (in conjunction with the one used on the cable-side) and leverage them against each other when securing your connection."

  • @juliehertel21

I love my first set of Chaigo to interchangeables. The set also includes 2 cord connectors, so you can join 2 cords to get longer length. That is, the 14" cord and the 22" cord can be joined to give a 36" cord. So with the two 4" needle tips, I get a 44" circular needle. I haven't tried the 5" tips, but they are available. I have several chaigoo fixed circular needles that have 5" tips and love them. Also, I have several of the 9" sock circulars by Chaigoo. They are fabulous. Have an issue with hand cramping on the small needle, regardless of the brand, but wow! The stitch-quality and way the metal and cord handles the yarn is wonderful.

Great review, as always. Looking forward to your others. I love this set with such great chords and all the extras that come with it. I did not know about the minis though. Like others that have commented, I really like the ability to combine the cords with the connector that they provide for an extra long cord. And I do have their bamboo set which I like to use for more slippery yarns. I was lucky that I started with a good set.

I love my Chiagoo needles! The last two pairs of needles I purchased were Chiagoo, and I think that will be the case going forward. A specialty yarn store near my home sells them, and I'm going to see if they carry those sets. Thanks for the review!

  • @PapercraftLady
    @PapercraftLady 6 років тому

These are the first and *almost* only interchangeables I use. I bought all my small and large needles and cables here and there from an Etsy shop over a course of time but I bought the "Spin" cables. They are the clear, seemingly thicker and definitely stiffer cables that do, unfortunately, have a good memory. After purchasing the mini set once I got into sock knitting, I realized how wonderful the red "Twist" cables are, so I since purchased an additional one for my small needles (not minis) and will gradually build on that.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to fix a red cable if/when it breaks, but I always restore my clear cables with a lit match to create a "bulbous" end and a pair of scissors to chip away at it until it is small enough to fit back in the casing but still big enough to keep it from going all the way through.
I do wish I had purchased the small and large needles in a set because I love the case and the organization.
Thanks for your reviews of all of the needles. It is great to know what others' opinions are of the many options out there for us without us having to learn the hard way!
PS: the *almost* other set I purchased was a size I didn't have but needed in a hurry. I went to a JoAn's store because of the convenience of it and the only interchangeables they had were Clover brand. They are bamboo and not slippery AT ALL, so that even when kitting extremely loose, I'm always working hard to move those stitches forward. I wouldn't recommend them at all!

I just received my Chaio Goo “small” set from Amazon today. They cost $93, but with my points I paid under $50. The 5 inch tips are very comfortable for me, my hands are large. Originally, I was going to order the complete set, but I can’t remember the last time I used a needle size larger than 5 mm. I use my Knit Picks nickel coated brass 40 inch cables for magic loop, and their 6” dpn set for five gauge projects, and have been very happy with them. The great thing about the Chaio Goo set is that I can always add additional sizes, cables, and joins. I absolutely love knitting with the various fixed length Chaio Goo lace needles in my tool kit, so finally broke down and got the interchangeable set.

I really wanted to know what was all the fuss about the cords and - oh boy - you are sooooooo right about them! No memory hold at all - no annoying dangling bits, nice give without being too stiff (I'm looking at you Denise Interchangeable set), great joints - really impressive!
I agree with you about the HHs being sleeker than CGs - which I love - and I can not really choose which set I like the most. HH swivel cords are great and way better than most nylon cords I have tried at my LYS or my friends' sets from other brands but CG cords are simply the best. HH and CG joints are super smooth and both brands have made wonders with the actual steel needles which are a pleasure to knit with. These sets are very expensive in Europe but I do not regret I bought them as they are really excellent tools - you definitely get what you pay for. 💖
Thank you very much for your reviews, Staci - they really are helpful! x Davie

I definitely agree with everyone. These needles are wonderful. I love their sharpness and, especially, the cord that doesn't keep curling. My local yarn shop recently suggested these so I bought a US 5, 40" cord, and I want more.

I've had this in my amazon cart a long time. I'm fixing to get them though because I need 16 in needles of all sizes for knitting sweaters and hats and I have had the 5 in needle set for several years. I only use Chiaogoo. They are the best needles out there in my opinion. The smaller ones for socks also knit like a dream with magic loop. Thank you for this review. Price for this 4 in set on Amazon right now is 115.00 which is great and for the complete set. The price on ebay right now is 165.00 What a difference!

Stacie, the really well thought out part is the cord connectors so you can connect 2 cords to make a longer cord. So imagine making a hat...16 inch knitting in the round when you start the decrease you can just add in your longer cord to the 8 inch cord and then you're magically in magic loop. It's a game changer.

This is my go-to needle-set (I have the regulars but only up to size 8). If I could afford it I would get all their other sets and use only those. The cables are like no other-absolutely NO memory at all. And the steel makes such a pleasant sound. My first interchangeables were Knitter’s Pride that I only use if I absolutely have to because I HATE the cables on them. Chiagoo ALL THE WAY!!

I’m suprised on how thin the wires are on that, I love the look of this set, it looks like a good set to take any place and know you don’t have to hunt down a store for a different size. I really like how easy it all fits in that small case

There are a few notable things you left out. Both sets include a connector for each hub size , so you can connect two cables, expanding the cable sizes, especially good for magic loop.
And another accessory ChiaoGoo sells is their adaptors. I use the mini/small adaptor on my mini cables so I can use those awesome teeny cables with needle tips up to US8, (AnyUS2-US8 Plus an adaptor), these teeny cables are especially good when making gloves and thumbs on mittens via magic loop.
So I can now use worsted weight wool, a US2-8 and make the fingers easily. And soon they will be coming out with "shorties" with 2.5"& 3.5" tips.
I have 2 complete 5" sets, a4" set and both 4&5" mini sock sets and I can knit anything!!! Thanks for the review of these awesome needles. Oh and they are lifetime guaranteed if you have a Chiaogoo approved retailer ( see www.chiaogoo.com for the list- several are on Amazon or Ebay)

I just ordered a Chiaogoo TWIST Shorties and am on pins and needles till they come. I've been knitting nothing but socks lately and love knitting lace also. I know how I am, if I am half as thrilled as I am anticipating, I'll be ordering more from Chiaogoo in the future.
I have a set of bamboo interchangeables from Knitter's Pride and I do still love them. Anyway, very anxious.
You always do such great reviews!

These look awesome! It says in the Amazon description "The needle tips feature a lifeline hole that makes adding a lifeline as simple as knitting across the row". It would be great to see how that works - i love using lifelines.

I’m a interchangeable set junkie. I’ve had Knit Picks, all four Addi Clicks sets, Knitters’ Pride and Hiya Hiya. After a while, I became disenchanted with them mainly because of coily cords or jagged joins, or uncomfortable in someway that left me wanting more. I decided to try a Chiaogoo circular and immediately loved the weight and feel of the needles, and the cables are strong but light weight. The tips are sharp enough to handle cobweb lace and work well with heavy wool, not splitting it. I’ve purchased the 4- and 5- sets to make sure I can handle any project and all that remains is to get rid of the other sets I can no longer see myself using.

Thank you! I love my Chai Goo fixed circulars, so I'm glad to hear the positive review on the interchangeables. I do wish they had the same type join as my Addi Long Lace Tip Interchangeables, as I don't have to use, or keep up with a key, but I'm still putting them (the large size) on my wish list. I really like the zipper case, too, much better than the case my Addi's came in.

I now own both the 5" and 4" tip sets, along with an array of cables, and the Mini set. Nearly everyone in my knitting circle uses these. ChiaoGoos are truly a knitting luxury.
I'm also very excited to see they're coming out with interchangeable sets with even shorter tips, all the way down to 9" total length, for things like socks or sleeves.

@Jenny Simon I bought both size tips. I gravitate to the 5 inch but really like the 4 inch too. I have a couple of 9 inch circulars for socks too as well as fixed circulars in the ChiaoGoo. I love my Addi’s , Knitters Pride and Knit Picks too. I would love to try Signature Needle Arts but they are just too expensive and I’ve spent a lot over the years, lol.

@@theastewart6721 thsbk you so much for the recommendation. Yeah I'm now looking at the coated ones a little more. Knit picks has the better more flexible cables for magic loop right? I'm thinking of the Carbon fiber ones or the shiny plated ones. I don't want the finish to rub off though. That is what makes me pause. I want them to last. I like the idea of the shiny slick finish but don't want durability issues either.

    • @theastewart6721
      @theastewart6721 Рік тому

@Jenny Simon. I think ChiaoGoo has the most flexible cable. They have no memory so they go right back to their original state when you’re done with them. Are you referring to the Karbonz with the black finish? They look notice too. I’m thinking of them for double pointed needles.

I treated myself to the small and large needles kit for my birthday last year. Later, I purchased a US 1 and US 1.5 mini with mini cords at a fibre show. I have every size needle and cord that I could possibly need. The price is reasonable, the needles are sharp, the joins cause no problems at all. The cords are superior. They are by far the best needles I have ever used. The case for storage is compact and functional. Addi's used to be my favorite sock needles, but the cords started to go out of shape. The ChaiGoo mini cords are far superior. I would highly recommend these sets for quality, value and ease of use. I did not purchase the mini set simply because I don't use anything smaller than a US 1. I will probably purchase a couple more small cables so I can do multiple projects at the same time. I prefer metal needles so that is what I got. Several of my knitting buddies have the wood (bamboo?) ChaiGoo sets and like those. I think your review is spot on.

I have both the blue and the red sets and I'll never use anything else for sweater sleeves again. I started out with knitters pride needles and hiya hiya then tried chiaogoo in 2020. I haven't touched the hiya hiya needles since 3/2020 and much longer with knitters pride since those cables/cords always unscrew themselves when I'm mid-row

I ordered the small set after watching your needle comparison video. My very first pair of socks was just completed using these needles and I can't say enough good things about them! I had absolutely no idea what that silicone heart was for though, I've been using two of the keys (facing opposite directions) for tightening/loosening the needle tips, one in the tip and one in the cord. Guess I'll try the heart for my next project!

  • @CatFromFL

Also the complete sets are US2-8& US9-15 BUT Chiaogoo sells a US2.5 (3mm) and US10.75 (7mm) and 10.5(6.5mm) individually which you can add to your sets , these come in both 4" & 5". I don't think any other interchangable needle maker offers these.
And Staci thanks for this awesome review. You will love these needles ! And try their Bamboo Spins. I love those for slippery yarn, and the clear nylon spin cords have memory but they have swivel hubs which are awesome for small circles , like 16" (like hats), and their Spins and Twists are swappable!
