Hi Julia! I know that this video is from several months ago, however, I have just discovered your channel and I have been binge watching your channel starting from your oldest and working my way to the most recent. I am really enjoying your channel and all of the tips and inspiration you share. Thank you so much for that! I especially LOVE that you use what you have and are not sharing a ton of all the "latest and greatest" of new releases from all the companies on the market. It can get really discouraging to be bombarded with an influx of new products (that I can't afford nor have the space to store) I have noticed that in several of your videos that you use Paper Wishes/HOTP products. I am a big fan of that company and their products. They (mostly Paulette) are the main reason I got into paper crafting. Our mail carrier ACCIDENTALLY delivered a Paper Wishes Catalog to my house by mistake. It was address to someone else. They lived at the same number but a different street about a block away. I had every honest intention of hand delivering the catalog to the intended resident, HOWEVER....I started thumbing through it and it was chalked full of a millilon AH-MAZING crafty goodness. I fell in love! I found my self gasping at every page and at everything I saw. I fell down the rabbit hole from there and the rest is history. I wanted to share something that I do/use to create faux matting layers or just to divide paper patterns for more pleasing (to my eye) look. AND....since you are already a fan of Paper Wishes/HOTP you may already have or at least know about. It's their Thin Line Dazzles Stickers. I LOVE them. They are probably my most used embellishment! I mostly use the black and the gold since they make the most basic "Matting layer" however, I do have all the colors to match whatever pattern paper I am using. This is juat a suggestion that may be helpful to you. OH and I also LOVE the dots as well in the holographic finish. I forgot what they call them but the are "The BING Without The Bump" because they are a tiny, perfectly flat sticker. They are perfect for flower centers or to use instead of Nuvo Drops if you don't want to have to wait for them to dry. I am a huge fan of both products. (Actually, I am a hug fan of all of their Dazzle stickers! Those are just the two I use the most and perfect to start with and try out.) Thank you so much for taking the time to create videos and upload them. I appreciate the effort you invest since I have benefited greatly from your efforts. ((((HUGS))))
Oh Bless You Valerie! I am so glad you found the channel and decided to take the plunge into the archives. I do cringe at some of the older videos, but the basic info is there eventho sometimes the presentation falls a bit short. Yes I have my share of dazzles also, and do use them to accent cards frequently. I am interested in your concept of using them as a matting layer. That is a wonderful idea! Welcome to the channel and come back soon! Julia
You are so welcome. Those were originally published for the Operation Write Home program. Not my creation. But they are a wonderful resource for all of us!
I have done some destash buying myself, especially in the beginning when I was building studio inventory. There can be a lot of bang for your buck there!! Talk soon!!
@@SeniorSusieStamps Yeah I have copious amounts of paper pads that I never touch because I have three file boxes of scraps. Still, can't help myself from acquiring more scraps.
I have used a 10SecondBowmaker for years and absolutely love it. There is a great bow video on their website to get you started - ua-cam.com/video/7wxItj4bdYA/v-deo.html
I find each pile of scraps has a bit of a mind of their own. Some are much easier to work with. Start there!! Perhaps use the card sketches in reverse. Pick a sketch you like and go look for the scraps to fit. I do both! Mainly - enjoy the process!!
I ❤️the way you use your scraps!! I store my scraps in the cardboard trays I buy w/my dogs veggies. I sort by color. I’ve been stamping card making since I was a teen. I’ve been teaching 30+ yrs. I also did the demo cards for major stamp companies like PSX, Rubber Stampede. I’m most excited about printing out your card layouts w/the measurements. Thank You so VERY much for sharing. Amy Jones Apex NC
Hi Amy - It sounds like you are very organized! I think you just have to be in this hobby, in order to find things. Those card sketches were originally posted from OWH (Operation Write Home) you probably remember them. I use mine a lot and am glad you like them too!
Thanks D! I appreciate your comment. Those OWH sketches are my favorite for sure because they have all the measurements. I like to use them as a starting point, especially when my mojo has gone a walkin'!
This was very helpful. I don't make any 2 cards exactly the same and love using my imagination, so I thought templates would cramp my style. My last contribution to a card campaign I found I was getting a little burned out. I can see these would have been very helpful. You made it very clear how you can still personalize these and add your own touches. Loved your cards.
Oh I'm so glad this was helpful. I find card sketches very helpful in using up scraps. I hate to throw anything out. And I so understand the burnout!!! It happens to all of us at some point.
Just discovered your channel about a week ago and have been so inspired by your videos! Thank you-am learning new techniques and ideas for card making using the (many:) items I already have without feeling like I need anything new. You are so talented!
Oh Shel - I love hearing you are using your stash and not feeling pushed to purchase more supplies. There is a lot of content on the channel and some great ideas - so back watch to your heart's content! I am in the middle of a move, so new content is sporadic at best. But, my new - interim - studio is coming along! Come back soon and feel very Welcome - I'm glad you're here!
LOL - Sometimes when I pull a scrap pack out my brain goes on vacation! And my mojo follows it ! The only way I can find a starting point is to grab my sketches book and start the hunt.
@@SeniorSusieStamps I get inspired by videos, but I have also bought some dies that work really well on scraps. In addition to that I have containers of things like die cuts with sentiments stamped on them, die cut flowers... etc. I love what you said about not being afraid of cutting into a whole sheet of paper to use your scraps.
It sounds like you have a great plan for using up some of those pesky scraps. I store mine with the parent pack so I can pull a coordinated sheet easily and use them. Otherwise, hunting for just the right color match doesn't work well for me.
Thank you so very much for this wonderful resource! I printed the layouts right away and you gave me some great ideas on using my copious amount of scraps.
Glad it was helpful Donna - There are several different card sketch lists, I just happen to like this one because it has the measurements. I keep mine in a notebook in sheet protectors. Very handy!!
I keep that little jig tucked under the pad on my work desk and pull it out all the time. It's wonderful for cutting stips out of those pesky scraps we all have!

Hi Julia!! I LOVE having card layouts! It makes creating cards and journal covers sooo easy!! I can’t choose a favorite-I love all your cards! Do you use premade bases, or what do you use to create your bases? I love that you’re doing a scrap series! Will you be making any tags and ephemera, or just cards? Whatever you make, I’ll be here to watch and learn!!! Hugs, Tina 💗🌷
Hi Tina - I have some premade bases in larger sizes. But all the A2 and minislimline cards I cut myself. I think tags and ephemera are all part of using scraps so I suspect we will be looking into that area as well. I have really learned to love scraps in this past year, and rarely cut a full sheet of paper because I have had so many. Thanks for your words of encouragement! Julia
Hi Connie and Welcome to My Channel! I ususally try to put out 2 videos a week, so there is a lot for you to check out already. Thanks Maureen - I always try to get mine started in July and I am already running behind this year. First of Sept I will switch off to Halloween cards for the nursing home and senior center. Then a few Fall/Autumn cards and right back to Christmas. That's the way it goes around here!
Hi there Julia... 😀I have to laugh, as I found your secret weapon rather overwhelming with literally hundreds of card layouts... WOW! Julia, I can see that this would be extremely helpful for you, (and other crafter's) as you make so many cards throughout the year. I can see that this would be an excellent way to plan, and use up all those cardstock scraps. I am looking forward to seeing more videos in this series about using up all those scraps, and especially how to store them. I must confess that I have never made a card using a layout or a plan. What I do, and I might have mentioned this before I gather all my card elements together on my desk, and then start playing with them to find a working layout for the card that I am making. Sometimes the card elements are sitting on my desk, because I am waiting for my paintings etc... to dry, as that is what is happening with a card that I am making at the moment. Julia my dear... I didn't quite hear what you said at 27.36 in this video?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 Oh yes please Julia... I would love to see your new organisation area on your desk, as I am always looking for ideas to make my space more useful and productive. I pray that you have a wonderful day creating in your beautiful craft studio. Blessings, love and hugs from your Aussie friend Gloria. 🥰☕🍰💐💖💝💕 P.S - If you make a boo boo... hide it with a snow flake! LOL...that is precious, and too funny!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Gloria - I never used to use card sketches either. But eventually you do get a little brain freeze when using scraps. And I think it's always a good option for a jumping off point. Anything to stimulate the creative juices when you are in a slump. And dontcha know I debated over those 2 pieces. But sometimes it's just OK to throw the last scrap out! Stay tuned for the storage ideas they are coming! And I hope you have a fabulous week my Aussie Friend!! So glad I made you laugh!! Julia

Hi Deborah - Yippee Skippie!! There is lots of content alread on the channel to go back watch if you like. And I try to put out a new video every Sunday afternoon (USA time). So, Come Back Soon!!
Hello Julia. Thank you for doing this new series! I think we all need help with using up our scraps. Do show your new organisation spot! I am hoping to use up scraps on making embellishments and tags too soon. I think I have made most of my Christmas cards for the past 3 years now with using scraps. I still have too many! So I thought making up into embellishments or tags might eliminate a few by layering up to use up! 😂
Hi Kaye - You are so right about layering up! And I love making embellishments especially if there is a stamped element. You can use them on all kinds of scrap cards. It has been a long time since I cut into a full sheet of designer paper. I keep thinking that day is right around the corner, and then I find some more scraps. LOL!!
When I download card patterns for my binder, I size them to A2 size, but use cm rather than inches since this uses less paper. Then I can measure the elements in the card with my ruler and translate that into inches. You can also measure the element across in inches and then divide it by the card width or length in total. It's a lot easier to measure the card elements than it is to explain it, actually! Love videos about scraps because I have so many of them!
Hi Bernice - I am not as computer savvy as you! LOL I'm lucky to be able to figure out how to get them printed sometimes. Will keep this in mind if I ever download sketches again tho. Thanks for the great tip!!
This is my first time on your channel and I really enjoyed watching you create these beautiful cards. I am totally into using scraps so I am grateful for all of your wonderful tips and techniques. Beautiful cards. I've made 310 so far this year and other than bases and white/vanilla card fronts, the whole bunch came from my "scrap" folders. I have enough scraps left to do another 310, but that's another year. I'm tired.
Goodness! I guess you are tired!! 🤩I think you are a Rockstar!! Scraps are a way of life in my studio. And I may be able to get back to cutting full sheets sometime in 2023, not sure yet tho! Thank you for your comment and Welcome to My Channel. I can't see your pic very well - is it a Springer Spaniel by chance?
LOL Lindsey you crack me up! I wear the crown very lightly believe me. But I can say this, I use my paper down to the bare nubs, and keep finding little useable bits here and there. Glad you are in for this series I think it will be a good one. (Hope, hope, hope)

Julia
Such pretty cards from scraps! Thanks for the OWH PDF.
You are so welcome! Glad you liked them.
Thank you sharing the card template pdf!! What wonderful gift you gave us!! I really appreciate you!!
You are so welcome. Those were originally published for the Operation Write Home program. Not my creation. But they are a wonderful resource for all of us!
I liked the last card with the deer. One of the things I have learned from watching your channel is to use tweezers!!
Oh gosh, Susan - I am completely lost without mine. My fingers are not nimble anymore and it's ugly when I don't use them!! LOL
I have a weird thing for scraps. I actually buy destashes of scraps so I'll never come close to using them up. Love your cards Julia. Very inspiring.
I’m one who would like a demo on the bow tying. Love all your wonderful scrap tuts.
I have used a 10SecondBowmaker for years and absolutely love it. There is a great bow video on their website to get you started - ua-cam.com/video/7wxItj4bdYA/v-deo.html
I have several mountains of scraps. Not sure if I would do as good a job as you but I'll give it a good try. Many thanks.
I find each pile of scraps has a bit of a mind of their own. Some are much easier to work with. Start there!! Perhaps use the card sketches in reverse. Pick a sketch you like and go look for the scraps to fit. I do both! Mainly - enjoy the process!!
Beautiful cards and yes on the organization spot 😮
Thanks so much! 😊

Hi Amy - It sounds like you are very organized! I think you just have to be in this hobby, in order to find things. Those card sketches were originally posted from OWH (Operation Write Home) you probably remember them. I use mine a lot and am glad you like them too!
@SeniorSusieStamps Do you know where I can get them? Thank😮 you
so cute im going to try to continue learning cardmaing at 74 yrs young thxs so much for inspiring me
Good for You Glenda! I plan to be making cards for years myself!!
Beautiful cards, I try to use up scraps as I go but still have some from other projects. Keep on using scraps.
They are always available aren't they??!!
Thank you for sharing the card sketches idea.
Enjoying the use your scrap paper series.
Love all your cards!
Thanks D! I appreciate your comment. Those OWH sketches are my favorite for sure because they have all the measurements. I like to use them as a starting point, especially when my mojo has gone a walkin'!
I can watch you all day every day! I love your cards!
Awwww Andrea - thank you!
I love using scraps! ❤ Great cards and I adore the sketches
Thank you Hilary and I am glad you found the facebook page as well! Come back soon!!
I definitely get inspiration from card sketches when I pull out scraps to play with.
Great cards!
What a great idea for a jig! I believe I will make one of those too.
A very handy tool to have for sure!
Will be following the series, thanks.
Great jig idea! I've created jigs for punches, but not for my trimmer. Definitely can see using that! Thanks!
I keep that little jig tucked under the pad on my work desk and pull it out all the time. It's wonderful for cutting stips out of those pesky scraps we all have!
This video is so much fun and your "secret weapon" is a keeper! I have so much trouble with layouts, so I'm very excited to use them! Love this series and yes! Please show us your organization! Good for you Ruth!! I am thrilled you are leading some classes. It keeps our hobby alive and well!
You are so organized, Julia. Keeping the card layouts in the binder gives you a quick overview so you can pick the right one. I think snowflakes on the purple cards would look good. My fav card is the lasts one - I love scenes! ❤️🇨🇦
Hi Mary-Lynn - Yes I find I use them much more often when I can have them right next to whatever I am working on. They are great layout inspiration!! Isn't that deer in the woods wonderful? Paperwishes.com Snowfall paper in 6x6 size

Where does a person buy the card sketches? I found your channel last night and and just couldn’t quit watching, I found your using scraps so fascinating. I have always donated my scraps to various family members or friends, even to some churches for the kinds and I live just down the street a block from an elementary school, the kindergarten teachers like getting them too.
Julia

Super cute cards!
Thanks and Welcome Kathleen!!
Oh yes please Julia... I would love to see your new organisation area on your desk, as I am always looking for ideas to make my space more useful and productive.
I pray that you have a wonderful day creating in your beautiful craft studio.
Blessings, love and hugs from your Aussie friend Gloria. 🥰☕🍰💐💖💝💕
P.S - If you make a boo boo... hide it with a snow flake!

Happy New Year to you as well! I really like these sketches for beginner card makers - because the measurements are right there. And you just can't beat a notebook for them!!
Is that card black, white and purple? I think it's the last card--The stag in the birches. I love that one. I like all of the cards...
That really wasn't purple it was a dark blue and lighter blue. But the blues were an unusual color of blue so it may well show up as purple on the screen.
@@SeniorSusieStampsBlue really is touchy. My mom once had a dark blue umbrella and it got misplaced and when she found it again, it had turned purple!
@@mawmawvee yes, we think of colors as being "true" but they are usually a combination and fading brings out the undertones.
