Ray Davies protected me when I was at an after-party. I was 18; it was the Word of Mouth Tour in 1985. He was an absolute gentleman, he is such a kind, sweet, man. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My brother recently died. He took me to my first Kinks’ concert. He and I used to bring up Kinks’ song to mind when they fit the memories we had or things that we said. God! I’m going to miss that so much! 😭❤️
Ray Davies song writing and talent is unmatched. Each work is tiny view into his soul, so honest, so brave, so comforting. Decades of work describing the human condition like few other artists could ever hope to achieve. Every time I hear his voice I literally smile. Thank you!!!
I haven't bought a "new" album since the 60's, all my vinyl coming from record fairs and ebay, so I was surprised to find myself in our local HMV store buying "Americana", on vinyl, of course. This is a tour de force from Ray Davies, reflecting my childhood exactly, when looking at the USA. Britain had just come out of a devastating World War and we were really broke. The cinema was our window on the world and the States looked exciting and we all wanted a part of it. Cowboy films, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, The Bowery Boys,Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Saturday morning pictures. This album brought it all back. Well done Ray, this is a classic.
Ray Davies je génius, skládá největší hity. Poslouchám ho již od šedesátých let. Ať mu hodně slouží zdraví. Děkuji a zdravím srdečně from Czech Republic.
"The fish is the last to discover water." Ray Davies, coming from England, sees America clearer than Americans do. This song, Celluloid Heroes.....etc., ETC..... Long Live The Kinks!
This will sound lunatic, but on the basis of this and Muswill Hillbilly, Ray belongs in The Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He certainly deserves it more than couple of recent inductees.
I've just heard an interview with the great man on Robert Elms radio show and he comes over as such a decent man, always interesting to listen to and still writing fantastic songs, long may he continue
Always the best songwriter. He is a truly artist in the music world, that's why he never lost his creativity. There is always something new and fresh in his music. Only genuine artists have that privilege.
Awesome, Ray. Loved The Kinks, and still love hearing you sing. Great job. Come Dancin', Ape Man, All of The Night.... all great tunes. Historic even. Thumbs up to you.
I adore this song with it's beautifull lyrics and the great musicians making the music even better than it already is. Thank you all for this great peace of music I already listened to a thousand times or more. Including many other songs of this masterpiece such as "Poetry" and "A Long Drive Home To Tarzana". I can't understand why Americana isn't on pole position in the music charts especially the US ....?! AMERICANA and Ray Davies deserve better, at least I think. Or am I missing something??
For an English kid, growing up in the black-and-white aftermath of the Second World War, technicolor America served to raise expectations. And now, in this time when America is embarrassing itself, Ray Davies offers us his dream of America for us to aspire to.
The greatest storyteller in Rock music history.
That’s a fact.

His voice is the sweetest, most haunting voice that's ever graced rock and roll.
Ray Davies song writing and talent is unmatched. Each work is tiny view into his soul, so honest, so brave, so comforting. Decades of work describing the human condition like few other artists could ever hope to achieve. Every time I hear his voice I literally smile. Thank you!!!

He may sound old whenever he speaks, but when it comes to singing, I still hear it the way he was in 1960s.
This will sound lunatic, but on the basis of this and Muswill Hillbilly, Ray belongs in The Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He certainly deserves it more than couple of recent inductees.

Americans just like "shit" music so Ray Davies doesn't qualify ...
He's not lost it! Fabulous.
A great composition. A nostalgic look back on a stellar career. Also an ode to America... Davis style. Nice backup by the Jay Hawks.
