I owned a 1976 Monte Carlo, and at no point during ownership of that car did I *ever* say: "It's not a bad car." I hated it, and couldn't flip it fast enough. I traded it for a 1977 Cutlass Supreme with 350 motor, bucket seats, and a huge screaming chicken on the hood. Loved it.

Hey, my parents had a 1977 Monte Carlo Landau! It was the first new car my father ever bought, when he got his first raise at the job he took straight out of college. He custom-ordered it and everything, which meant he not only intentionally bought a metallic-chocolate-brown car with a beige vinyl roof and tan vinyl interior, he _specifically instructed General Motors to build it that way._ The '70s, man. Strange days.

So that would make it heavier and a driver would keep putting the pedal down thinking it was going to go better and all it did was make the engine more inefficient than a V6 being driven normally. I had square body trucks that were nice that I sold just because they had a 305 in them and they were a pooch.

Any of you cannonballers ever see a late 80's Dodge Daytona (I think Silver and Blue) make one/or more of the runs? My mom worked at a auto shop that did repairs, tires, and auto body in Tulsa, OK. A guy trailered one in and had new Dunlop Tires put on it and a spare or 2. I don't remember if it was for a CB, or The Silver State Run, but I remember he said he had done one or the other & was heading to the other. It would have been '87 - '89. It had a lot of top end (at the time) countermeasures. I was always curious what happened to that car.

When I was in college, I owned a 1975 1/2 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landeau with a CID 350 V8 and stock parts. Two of my friends owned Monte Carlos, one was a 1977 and the other a 1978. We used to spend weekends racing the trains in the countryside and doing doughnuts. Mine certainly was faster because all that matters was experience driving fast cars. My friends didn't have a lot of experience driving powerful cars. This video brought back good memories. But this guy doesn't seem to know a lot about these Monte Carlos. They were fast, but they also were built on the cheap side. They have to be treated with care too or they break on you.

I took my first drivers test in 1985 in a Monte Carlo of similar vintage. I was 16, the car was my parents, and, unfortunately, the carb had an issue which caused it to stall at low RPM. I wasn't doing great, but at least the examiner was still in the car. The final part of the test was parallel parking. I did exactly as I was taught in drivers ed and got the car parked properly, but the car stalled twice during the process. Mind you, this car was an automatic, and it stalled because of the carb issue. The examiner didn't care, each stall docked me one point and I failed the test by two points. My parents got rid of the car not long after that.

Ouch. That reminds me of when I took my license test. My big sister had a car but no license yet so we took drivers education together. She was pretty terrible starting out and had a terrible time parallel parking because she wouldn't practice with me. So we get to the place where the test was held and she went first. Immediately she failed the parking test because the instructor had us run it first. Then she couldn't ride in the car while I took my test so she had to stay in the parking lot on a rainy day while my mom and I went for the test with the instructor. He asked me to turn right on a red light as we were turning back to the lot. and I did but without coming to a full complete stop before hand. It was a safe manuver because I could see no cars were coming from the left but I should have still come to a legal stop. . I just kinda took the turn like my parents would have. As soon as I made the turn I knew I'd just ducked up. The dude just audibly groaned But I just looked at him and said "you already have to see my sister again. Do you really wanna see me ever again as well?" The dude was super gruff and was just like okay whatever I won't mark that down. But I should have been automatic failured right then also. But then I get back to the parking lot where my sister is soaked and misserable and jealous that I just got my license using her car before her despite her being older. And despite the fact that I had done something way more dangerous than failing to parallel park. I took like 4 hours the next day to teach her how to park and she passed easily a month later and all was forgiven. Not the same scenario at all But I thought it was hilarious and worth sharing 😂

@@killeralltires I can relate to the failure to come to a complete stop. I have ridden motorcycles since I was seven-years old. My avatar photo is me in '76 at nine-years old on my second bike. When I was in the Navy, 10-years later, I decided it was time to get a license to ride on the road. I was stationed in Norfolk, VA, and went to the local DMV with my Kawasaki 550. I had just spent a week taking the motorcycle safety course on base, so I passed the written part of the exam with ease. The examiner and I then went outside, and he told me ride the bike in a short lap of the parking lot. No problem! After making the lap. I parked, walked up to him and he let me know I had failed. I was like, "What do you mean I failed?" He then pointed to a stop sign in parking lot, which I never saw, because, up to that point, I had never seen a stop sign in a parking lot before. As far as I was concerned, this part of the exam was simply a dirty trick they used to generate revenue by having most riders take the exam twice. I returned a month later and passed with flying colors. This incident, along with another traffic ticket trap (a small sign stating no right turns were allowed at a main intersection between certain hours of the day) in Virginia Beach, and a base gate guard who insisted the tabs on my cars license plate were fake, left me with not so fuzzy feelings for the state.
