They need to start playing their friendlies in Mexico again. When 2/3 of your games are in the US, something is wrong. Whenever Mexico DOES play in their country; it's against Central American and Caribbean teams. I understand that in states like California, Texas, and Arizona there's a huge Mexican population but at the same time when you can't appeal your own audience in your own country, there's something wrong.

Mexico HAS to play more away games. By away games I mean barely any Mexican fans because Mexico’s away record is bad and nobody ever talks about that. The problem has nothing to do with appeal. The Mexican Federation of Football prefers to have their national play friendlies in US soil to get those large dollar payouts. That’s money that they can’t get having the national team play in Mexico.

In order for things to change, one thing that needs to happen is for Mexicans who live in the US to STOP attending El Trí games. They could at least start with not attending friendlies. That way it can send a message to the FMF that things need to change. They stop going, the FMF won’t get so much of a payout that helps them out a lot financially.
But we already know that won’t happen. A call like that will just fall on deaf ears and they’ll continue to pack the stadiums each time the team comes to their nearest city.
It’s so ironic that El Trí has so many games outside of their country. The only other time you’ll see that is if a particular country is war torn.

For me, the real downfall started in 06. The generation of divas like Chicharito, Ochoa, Guardado, Herrera, and more started coming through, and now it's worse than ever with players like Vega, Lainez, and co. Before that you had players like Luis Hernandez, Cuauhtémoc, Borgetti, Garcia Aspe, Torrado, Rafa Marquez, Campos, and more who despite not being top players (aside from Marquez and Campos) gave it their all and wanted to succeed. Not to mention, the league is nowadays bloated with foreigners who are garbage, and the so-called "youth teams" are now plagued with a bunch of hijos de mami y papi who never kicked a ball in their life prior to joining.

@@edbrown4800you could argue that however at least in those times Mexico could sometimes punch above their weight or give top teams a run for their money. Ever since 2006, Mexico have hardly been able to punch above their weight instead they get destroyed. If Mexico were still following the direction they going in prior to the generation of divas and with today's infrastructure, they could have at least made it to the quarter finals several times and a possible semifinal. But instead they chose to keep signing garbage foreigners and more of them. Long gone are the days when there were fewer foreigners that were actually quality like Cardozo, Piojo Lopez, Zamorano, Sinha and co. And as I've said before nowadays the youth teams are absolute garbage plagued with "players" who are only their cause their parents paid for them to be there.

This is basically all the same problems Peru is in. I can only imagine it's the same problems for many national teams that we're not paying attention to. They don't call up players until they're 21-24 years old and even then its limited playing time. The excuse i've seen many say is "they're not good enough yet for the selection". It's so dumb because if they aren't getting any playing time, how the hell are they going to get better? Peru recently debuted a 22 year old in a qualifier game in high elevation and he turned out to be the best player on the pitch. All the teens and developing players need is like 30 minutes off the bench or so. They never give them chances. never.

Now coming from a Mexican American perspective, I was disappointed to know that the mexican federation is more concerned with filling stadiums than genuine change. Mexico plays more in the USA than Mexico… like that makes no sense that’s like if England played majority of their games in Italy. If only the Mexican Americans stop attending the games, then the Mexican federation will see that people want change. Unfortunately, the Mexican Americans either don’t know or don’t care enough about the issues and as a result of that… the Mexican federation will keep doing what it’s doing. It might be petty of me to go after the fans but it’s frustrating to see Mexican Americans attend the games and pull their phones out and be like “ oh look guys memo” and post it on their instagram story for people to see. There are also plethora of instagram accounts dedicated to sucking the Mexican team dry, it’s honestly embarrassing. They go berserk after barely beating Honduras in the nations league, how can they expect Mexico to do well in the copa america if Honduras is hard to beat. So ask yourself what's the next best option the Mexican American fans in the USA that don't really question anything as long as they take a picture with their favorite Mexican player and other group of fans who are also at fault are the america fans who can't take criticism why are you defending televisa controlling Mexican soccer and making decision for the national team? They can't answer that lol like imagine defending corruption just cuz the owner of your team is the one of most corrupt media outlets in the country😂 the fans do have power to make change, look what happened in the national league 3rd place they fired the coach after they saw the empty stadium. Diego Lainez showed his talent at such young age, but ruined his career when he choose playing for Betis, a team full of 28+ players that doesn’t trust youngsters, over playing for Ajax, a team that actually trust youngsters. Then we have Raul Jimenez who was destroying the Premier League with all his goals, but then he hasn’t been the same since the head injury incident with David Luz. I think there was never a downfall at all. More like Mexico never even fulfilled their potential and that's what's sad. If you look at Mexican history of soccer it kind of started in the early 90's. For one, Mexico started this inflation of players in the domestic market and started demanding insane amounts that Euro clubs wouldn't pay (and why would they when in the rest of the world they would get them for cheap).
Mexico's big chances to transcend at WC level were in 94 and 98. Because Mexico didn't have players with that killer instinct, which they could have if they would've started exporting more, then maybe things would've been different. That's a whole topic to unpack but in my opinion that's where one of our problems originates. After that it really just started to stagnate and fester. You compare Mexico with similar teams like USA, Costa Rica, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, South Korea, Japan, and Australia (more ore less B level teams) and all of these other teams have made decent progress, even if it's just player exportation alone. Mexico use to compete very well when it was in Copa America. Now we aren't even it it. All of this then devolves with the emergence of the Mexican market in US. It seems like the people who control Mexico's soccer are successful with the mediocrity and the idiotic consumption of (mostly) casual Mexican soccer fans in the US. That's pretty much been Mexico's life's blood once MLS started up in 1996. Mexico's games in US increased to much more, as did broadcasting rights, merchandising, etc.
It's much more than this, but in general Mexican soccer is pretty much doomed and this is what we will get for the next 10 years (at least). As fans/consumers I think we need to just stop watching, buying, attending games, etc. Even though I doubt that will ever happen.

    • @Zetro999

Agreed with most of your points but I'd say it truly started in 06. In the 90s Mexican players weren't sought after in Europe due to their short height. In the 2000s Mexicans were a bit more on the radar of European clubs due their solid preformance in the 2005 Confed cup and their deep runs in Copas America. However 06 is when the generation of divas like Chicharito, Guardado, Giovanni, and many others started to emerge.

I've been watching Mexico since the1990s and I can tell you this: Mexico HAS NOT gotten worse. It plays pretty much the same. What has changed is that its rivals in the region have gotten better and have adapted to the new style of football that's way more athletic and more fast paced in addition to skills and tactics requirements. Herculez Gomez on ESPN once started to say this, but David Faitelson and Mauricio Pedroza didn't like the comments so they pushed back and changed the subject. It's nothing new. When Juan Carlos Osorio coached Mexico, he started to mention something similar until he had to walk it back due a Mexican press blowback. Tata Martino, on the other hand, didn't care and was more blunt about it. The Mexican football press didn't like it and didn't want to hear it, but he didn't care and to this day they are STILL finding ways to blame him for Mexico's shortcomings in Qatar. Players 'coming forward' to say that he....wait for it....'treated them like children' and 'sold out to Argentina'.....(HAY POR FAVOR!) So, people like David Faitelson and Alberto Garcia Aspe don't want to accept the reality as to why Mexico is stagnant but at least other commentatorss in other Mexican soccer shows are accepting the reality. Some of them are suggesting for more foreign football players to become naturalized Mexican citizens to become elgible to play for El Tri someday. One surprisingly called out the whiners for continuting to blame LigaMX team owners for not allowing Mexican players to go to Europe because he knows that the few that go don't stay long for various reasons and end up returning to LigaMX, or MLS. He also mentioned that blaming the leauge team owners for controlling the federation, blaming the removal of promotion and relegation and blaming the LigaMX teams no longer participating in Copa Libertadores are just excuses. Why? Because Canada and USA don't go to Copa Libertadores and MLS does not, and never has had, promotion and relegation. I for one know that Don Garber is notorious for making US Soccer put MLS players on the USMNT and weakens it because of how weak the American MLS payers are. We all saw a very weak USA team with a bunch of MLS players in the last Gold Cup. They only looked good against Caribbean island nations, which pretty much means nothing.

As an American fan since the 90's I've gotten to watch Mexico a lot over the years. My take is a little different. I don't think Mexico has suffered a dramatic downfall, instead what has happened is that the rest of Concacaf, Africa and Asia have all started to live up to their potential, thanks locally to MLS and broadly by the expansion of the World Game to a point where almost everyone has players playing outside of their home country. The World Game and the Concacaf game are both significantly deeper and more talented than they were a couple of decades ago. This makes Mexico look bad by comparison as now they're playing in a pool that has a lot more talent and experience than it did during the times that they had their greatest successes. To me it's as simple as that.

Almost a perfect video, you forgot to take a look at the gambling mafia that owns almost all casinos in mexico, bcs they are also responsible for the mediocre tv super stars and the league system circus.
Also talking about how baffling the sport development is in mexico, I lived until college in the north west of mexico (in this part of mexico the only good sport development we have is in baseball, and we have second division teams of football that cant ascend to liga mx with poor youth development) I had lots of friends that where super good at football, one of them was a left winger and he even got accepted in the Roma youth academy but with no loans, at the end he couldn’t do nothing because he had no money nor a privet agent that would be willing to pay for him, and of course in mexico if you are not a rich kid you cant do nothing. Now he just got graduated form college and he is a normal dude with a frustrated dream of becoming a professional footballer. (The saddest part was that he wasn’t even a poor person, he could even afford a good UNI in mexico, if he couldnt I don’t know how poor people could) Also all my friends dropped their sport talent and became just a bunch of drunk college students, some of them are gonna be doctors or lawyers. Definitely thats something I appreciate of America, Brazil and Argentina, where with talent and har work you can have opportunities with the sport one day, but not in mexico they all drop the towel in high-school and start changing the sport for alcohol and parties because of the baffling reality of how null the sport development is in mexico (not mentioning that we are #1 country in obesity rate), I hope some day intelligent people will manage to change those thing for the good health and sake of mexico in general, a country that is run by los of evil business man in every aspect of our society.

Australia moved from the oceania zone into Asia, and their level increased a lot. Mexico should leave CONCACAF and join CONMEBOL. Forcing themselves to play for a World Cup spot in South America against Brazil, and Argentina instead of USA and Canada will greatly increase their level of play since it puts them in a sink or swim situation where they either manage to improve, or are forced to never play a World Cup ever again.

Liga MX is an absolute basket case of a league that not only incentives mediocrity, but also blatant corruption, destruction of a potentially good young players prospects, an over inflated internal transfer market that again hinders on a young players career and as the video says laziness of a Mexican player potentially playing in the better leagues of the Premiership, Bundesliga, Seria A or La Liga due to the comfortable living already afforded to them in Liga MX. Another aspect that this video doesn't highlight is that Liga MX having the pleasure of being the only league in the world where the Bosman Rule in theory, doesn't exist, due to corrupt owners having gentleman's agreements with other owners in not poaching their selective talent pool and/or keeping players beyond their contracts to fulfill their club obligations, like slavery on a wage!
The Mexican football federation is in cahoots in all this and either it knows about it and turns a blind eye and or doesn't care as long as the money from say for example Mexico's competitive qualifiers or friendlies are played in the U.S to capitalize on a Mexican market living abroad and raking in the pesos or dollars. Unfairly, being geographically in the North American region and being part of CONCACAF, has turned Mexico into the big fat fish in the small pond, which is getting smaller as the U.S and Canada are getting stronger, but the former, investing in their grassroots organisations, making active measure to make the MLS competitive as possible and having about 3/4 of their team play in the best leagues in the world. Scouting and Youth development in Mexican football is atrocious.
Worst is, Mexico have toyed with the idea of being in CONMEBOL, but by doing this, dollars/pesos will not be the same and the Mexican football federation know this and wouldn't be able to line their pockets like a little Judas, but also the allure of being the top dog in a region with possible guaranteed World Cup or intercontinental competition entry is a bonus because again, the pesos but worst is, if they do make it into CONMEBOL right now, they would probably be beaten sound by the likes of Peru, Ecaudor and Chile and murdered by the likes of Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia. their current squad wouldn't even get into a CONMEBOL select XI. Mexican football never thinks in long term goals but short team decisions with hindering effects.

Man it’s crazy to think that because the upper people only care about money us the fans are suffering. I talked to a guy from Europe about soccer and he said man over there you don’t even have to pay to be ina good academy while over in Mex and even in USA we got to pay for tryouts then more if we advance. It’s crazy to see that the players that are better than the sons of guys with money don’t get a chance to develop. Money guy pays for his son to play while broke kid just watch’s and just waste time and his talent there. Once the people stop watching…they’ll see

Sad downfall money is most important. Players who want to leave are stopped by the club and put a big number on upcoming players in order to have control over them. The federation doesn’t care and only cares about playing in the US to bring dollars in and not pesos. No freshness in the squad and they play the same players over and over no matter if they’re in good or bad form. The Mexican league is full of international players and lacks competition. The federation only plays against mls due to the money and make excuses to not enter libertadores. They let the money take control so much that leagues cup (shitty tournament) is only played in the US and not Mexico.

I'd just add the fans as part of the problem, because if they keep supporting the awful league we have here then the people,e in power will keep doing the same: if for example people stopped going to the stadiums and watching the games on TV the owner would eventually be forced to make a change.

This is why I don’t respect chicharito he isn’t good he makes 1 goal misses 9 he is a cazagoal only reason he is pro because his dad was pro and had money and paid its well known that’s why he all of a sudden wants to be a gamer cuz he isn’t a league he has no heart for the game
