My friend, who happens to be a Catholic priest, this morning Sunday, July 21, 2024. Gave me the Five-Fold scapular. This has the blue, immaculate Virgin Mary, black, Our Lady of Sorrows, brown for Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This is written in the detaiks. It says back, thr white or blessed Trinity. Fiive-Fold which is the fabric is red. Came with a crucifix and a St Benedict medal. I still have the brown one as well. Thanks for this video, Father.
All that plus a Rosary and you are as protected as you can be! You can buy pocket rosaries, or “ring rosaries”. Also, I would recommend having the St Benedict medal blessed with its specific blessing (it’s a little long - you can find it online).

A spiritual anxiety that I was doing something wrong if I took the scapular off to sleep or something. This brings me peace and let's me see the motherly sense of the Blessed Virgin much better.
When I first watched this video, I was about to receive the brown scapular. I since have and take joy in growing closer to our Blessed Virgin Mary and our risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Like he said in the video, a scapular is a sacramental, a way to encourage our faith. We do not place our hope for our salvation in an object, but in Christ and His church. Wearing a small scapular was not common among Christian laity until relatively recently. If you have anxiety and worries, pray about it, and speak to your priest.

The Brown Scapular must be made of woven wool of a Carmelite Colour. Measuring two inches by two and three quarter inches. Carmelite colours are either brown or black. The straps can be of any fabric. And it is compulsory to be enrolled. In addition the words of the enrollment must be correct. This was presented to Pope Leo 13 by the Sacred Congregation of cardinals who upon discovering that their was confusion over the design, material and size of the scapular, made recommendations for design, fabric and size, to the Pope who gave it his approval and blessing.
Can I make my own scapular, with brown wool and embroidery (and have it blessed of course)? The one I have is covered in plastic and I wound like a 100% wool one, but it is hard to find in my country. I love to sew my one clothing and so on, and ones to love the scapular as well, but hate the felling of plastic on skin.
I wonder why you say it doesn't need to be wool, I make scapulars and I searched high and low for a document with specifications, and the only authoritative (with an imprimater) document I found did specify woven wool, and said when brown woven wool couldn't be found to use black woven wool. I don't go around telling people their scapular is made wrong, like you said, I believe Our Lady understands, but we should at least try to get it right.

It's dishonest to claim that the scapular story about Simon Stock having a vision is historical. The only historical story about Simon Stock OF ANY KIND that is contemporary with his own life is a Dominican historical work that describes Simon Stock, then the superior general of the still young Carmelite mendicants, and a Carmelite novice meeting up with some Dominicans and the novice says to the Dominicans that he had heard of the death of the Dominican Jordan of Saxony in a shipwreck and almost despaired, till he (the novice) had a dream of Bl Jordan indicating the Carmelite habit worn by the young man (no reference specifically to the scapular, though both Dominican and Carmelite habits had that) and telling him that if he perseveres to the end wearing his habit he will be saved, in other words if he remains a faithful religious to the end. The Dominicans had a story about Mary giving their scapular at an earlier date than the Carmelite scapular story, which first appears about 100 years after Simon Stock in a Dominican martyrology. Prior to that time, it was actually the white mantle that was the particularly emblematic feature of the habit. So, it was a tradition that developed rather than an actual prayer experience of Simon Stock or anyone else.
There are a few traditions that are not grounded in any type of known history. I found a document online that was issued from some Carmelites in N. America somewhere that basically said as much as what you wrote... The document basically said that we should practice devotion to Mary and try to pray the liturgy of the hours to some degree. But cautioned against some of the stronger promises regarding this scapular.
Those Catholics have invented too many things…purgatory, rosaries, scapulars, wafers as communion, even the person known as Pope when previous only Christ was head of the church with bishops on equal responsibility.

Does one need to be enrolled in it or is it as simple as having a priest bless you and put it on you?

This was great and all but he didn’t answer the first question? Am I a bad catholic if I don’t wear the scapular? Will I still get to heaven if I don’t? Will I still be protected by our lady if I don’t? Personally, I hate wearing things around my neck and I don’t even like wearing necklaces all the time. Does this make me a worse catholic than those who do?
Like he said in the video, a scapular is a sacramental, a way to encourage our faith. We do not place our hope for our salvation in an object, but in Christ and His church.
Wearing a small scapular was not common among Christian laity until relatively recently.
If you have anxiety and worries, pray about it, and speak to your priest.

Aughh as a Catholic I wish this did not bother me but it does. It just sounds so wrong. I mean this with no disrespect, I respect Mary so much but I feel like as Catholics we put so much attention to her and to these items.

The Brown Scapular must be made of woven wool of a Carmelite Colour. Measuring two inches by two and three quarter inches. Carmelite colours are either brown or black. The straps can be of any fabric. And it is compulsory to be enrolled. In addition the words of the enrollment must be correct. This was presented to Pope Leo 13 by the Sacred Congregation of cardinals who upon discovering that their was confusion over the design, material and size of the scapular, made recommendations for design, fabric and size, to the Pope who gave it his approval and blessing.

The one I have is covered in plastic and I wound like a 100% wool one, but it is hard to find in my country. I love to sew my one clothing and so on, and ones to love the scapular as well, but hate the felling of plastic on skin.
I wonder why you say it doesn't need to be wool, I make scapulars and I searched high and low for a document with specifications, and the only authoritative (with an imprimater) document I found did specify woven wool, and said when brown woven wool couldn't be found to use black woven wool.
I don't go around telling people their scapular is made wrong, like you said, I believe Our Lady understands, but we should at least try to get it right.
My 13 year old daughter climbed out of the 12th floor and was found dead on the first floor in the sleeping Saint Joseph position. She was wearing the brown scapular but she wasn’t enrolled. Is she saved?

It's dishonest to claim that the scapular story about Simon Stock having a vision is historical. The only historical story about Simon Stock OF ANY KIND that is contemporary with his own life is a Dominican historical work that describes Simon Stock, then the superior general of the still young Carmelite mendicants, and a Carmelite novice meeting up with some Dominicans and the novice says to the Dominicans that he had heard of the death of the Dominican Jordan of Saxony in a shipwreck and almost despaired, till he (the novice) had a dream of Bl Jordan indicating the Carmelite habit worn by the young man (no reference specifically to the scapular, though both Dominican and Carmelite habits had that) and telling him that if he perseveres to the end wearing his habit he will be saved, in other words if he remains a faithful religious to the end. The Dominicans had a story about Mary giving their scapular at an earlier date than the Carmelite scapular story, which first appears about 100 years after Simon Stock in a Dominican martyrology. Prior to that time, it was actually the white mantle that was the particularly emblematic feature of the habit. So, it was a tradition that developed rather than an actual prayer experience of Simon Stock or anyone else.

There are a few traditions that are not grounded in any type of known history. I found a document online that was issued from some Carmelites in N. America somewhere that basically said as much as what you wrote... The document basically said that we should practice devotion to Mary and try to pray the liturgy of the hours to some degree. But cautioned against some of the stronger promises regarding this scapular.

Those Catholics have invented too many things…purgatory, rosaries, scapulars, wafers as communion, even the person known as Pope when previous only Christ was head of the church with bishops on equal responsibility.
