The Most Practical Glass Water Bottle

  • I have been EDC ing the Pyrex 17.5 oz flip-top glass water bottle and I love it. It allows me to drink straight from the glass while having a one-handed flip-top lid, it fits in cup holders, and it is easy to use, clean, and carry. The color-changing feature is a little strange in my opinion. But it doesn't detract from the use of the bottle. And perhaps most importantly, it has really good results with a real concern when you decide to EDC a water bottle - the glass seems to stay together, stuck to the silicone when it breaks AND the replacement cost is low.
    This is a fantastic EDC item for those who prefer to drink out of glass - inexpensive, useful, practical, and even healthy!

    My favorite bottle, the Pyrex 17.5 oz with flip top lid is available in different designs, and while MSRP is $25 US, I have seen that it is often under $15 and sometimes under $10! I have already ordered a new one!

    It's always good to see Anne post a new video. She always has something new I hadn't thought of. While I'll probably never use a glass bottle, the different perspective can be applied to other items. It's too bad there aren't more ladies making edc videos. The different POV is interesting and useful. Vive le difference!

    Interesting! Remember the mood ring craze? And for years I used color changing stick-on thermometers for tropical fish tanks. With the right marketing, the water bottle equivalent of a mood ring would sell like hotcakes. 😅 We used a lot of Tuff Skin light bulbs at work. The skin on the bulb absorbed minor bumps, preventing breakage, and when it did break, the glass was contained. We’ve broken a couple of glass bottles by forgetting them in the car in winter. That looks like a good one. Glass is nice. We recently got a couple of large insulated tumblers, and I ended up building compatible cup holders for one vehicle.

      @@thevineclimber you can still find Tuff Skin light bulbs if you search, even though most of us have gone to LED. After I upended one of the big new 40 oz. tumblers in our 1992 S-10 Blazer, i scared up a scrap of 3” ABS, two caps (which I cut to only 7/16” in length), some ABS cement, and. 3-1/2” hole saw. The little “forward console, where the transfer case lever comes through had a rectangular tray area. Glued 1-3/4” pieces of 3” ABS into the shortened caps, made two 3-1/2” holes through the tray area, then glued in my new ABS cup holders - forward console is made of ABS so that glue job is permanent.

    Depending on the reason for choosing glass, the silicone fusion might be countering that reason. (For some people i know, the reason is to use a supposedly eco friendly material) As would be the lids of both bottles.
    Personally (for a while now) in my backpack at work i have a 0,75L Stanley thermos bottle with me and a standard PET Water bottle. Both are not as prone to break as a glass bottle, and both are way lighter. (And as is madatory where i live, i do recycle the PET bottle accordingly.)
    I don't know why, but i always feel kind of uneasy when something perfectly fine gets broken or damaged on purpose. At least i don't have to do it myself. And it still wasquite interesting how the two broke.

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber  Рік тому +1

      I feel uneasy about it, too. And then I also realized that I forgot to take a picture for the thumbnail before I broke them. So then I think my uneasiness was justified!
      The Stanley is metal on the inside and I just don't care for the taste. Plus I'm a little bit uneasy about getting exposed to the nickel which I'm pretty allergic to.I have no idea what ingesting it long term would do to me but the allergist told me not to have anything with nickel implanted. I figure maybe this would be something like constantly exposing me to it? I drink a lot of water.
      Yes the glass water bottle is very heavy. I like your other option.
      I think it's great that you mentioned the recycling issue.I realized as soon as I saw it that I was never going to pick the glass off of it and try to recycle those little pieces! If that is a disappointing part of this that I did not mention in the video.Thank you for bringing it up!

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Рік тому +1

      @@thevineclimber Thanks for answering!
      Sorry, i didn't think about the possibility of nickel in stainless steel and how it could affect allergic people. (And that despite being allergic to pollen and anything made out of-, containing-, and being touched by bell pepper myself 🤦‍♂)
      Tastewise i can't say i notice any change by the stainless steel.
      I guess an alternative for you then could be something made of titanium. Although more expensive, it should not have all the negative effects stainless steel with possible nickel containment could have on you.
      But as you work in the medical envirement, i guess you know better than me about the non allergic properties of titanium.
      And it surely is way lighter than any glass bottle.
      The only negative point compared to glass would be that you don't see how full it is from the outside.

    Hi Anne. Really enjoying your content. An alternative that’s tough, well-designed and VERY affordable is to buy a glass bottle of Voss Norwegian spring water. Here in the Midwest the 27 oz size is between $4 & $5. The bottles fit a cup holder, have a wide mouth for easy cleaning and seem quite durable. I’m still using mine 5/6 days per week going on 4 years. It’s taken several hard knocks and a few drops to the pavement without damage. Be aware that Voss is also sold in a plastic bottle with the identical design, so make sure you’re getting glass if you plan to repurpose it for daily refilling.

    The “boop” for the win 😄, but a demerit for the bottom blowing out.
    To avoid drinking from plastic I have several Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottles. Especially when motorcycling I can’t deal with the risk of broken glass. And the single walled one I have looks so beat to hell in a way that I’m proud of all the dimples. The double walled ones keep stuff hot or cold for eons and are also buff against deforming. I do prefer the feel of drinking from glass but if sipping through a lid the feel is lost and the taste difference is negligible when weighed against the fragility.
    Breaking stuff and lighting stuff on fire… sounds like my youth with boy best friends. Throw in some bb’s and a few eggs. 🥸😜

      And toilet paper!! Which will sound weird to anyone who doesn't know what I'm tea asking about!! Tomboys for the win!!
      Lol... Thank you for your insights on the Kleen Kanteen.I am interested in those but I just don't like the metal.I do have a liberty bottle that I use when I need a metal bottle.Not sure if that would be appropriate. Only single walled, and it does have some type of lining inside the metal. Glass is totally not sorority for a motorcycle in my uninformed opinion.
      With this one you actually do drink out of the glass.The glass sticks up above the lid which is a little weird to say that; kind of hard to describe. I didn't mention it in the video but I really should have!
      And I can't show you now because it's broken. But I've got a new one on the way!
      Thanks for coming by, Daphne!!

    No any glass water bottles in my EDC! No any glass bottles in ny hiking backpack! Glass bottles WEIGHTs a lot, it can be droped and becomes broken.
    Usually I carry second used cheap bottles from Cola or mineral water.
    In winter and for coffe I carry thermo mug from french brand SALEWA. I can put my SALEWA mug in backpack in any position and take a cup of warm coffee even after 4 hours. I got my SALEWA thermo mug on 2016 and it is still in my EDC.

      I had never heard of that brand so I had to go look it up. looks awesome! Very tough. This is not for the same kind of thing! Only for people who prefer a glass water bottle, which is a lot heavier.
