You got it right brother about how hard transitioning back to civilian life is. That was 30 years ago for me and I still remember coming home and feeling like everything was different. Like everything had changed while I was gone. My home town felt different somehow, my friends, hell even my family felt off. Hard to explain if you haven’t been there but I knew I didn’t belong there anymore so just got on with life somewhere else. Everything worked out fine and I eventually understood I was what was different.
Good luck with the channel. Subscribed!

Hey I went down the rabbit hole to find I'm Not Home and download it to support them in the only way that I could. I was unable to find that song but I did find this one and downloaded it before I even knew you did a reaction to it. Thank you for your sharing these amazing songs and the MUCH needed message behind them.

Aloha! My experience is not on the same level as yours, but in any case, true story (I try to find the humor in everything). When my time came for mid-tour leave from Iraq, I figured, instead of flying all the way home to Hawai'i (and wasting travel days), I would take advantage of being on that side of the world and go to Italy and take my first ever (and only) cruise vacation. I wanted something and somewhere that had more colors than just desert brown and I wanted to shower for as long as I could possibly stand it, instead of 30-second ship showers or a bottled water rinse. So, Mediteranean cruise it was. Anywho, on my 2nd night in Italy (waiting for the cruise boarding day and my flight to Barcelona the next day), I went to the bar on the first floor of the hotel. The bar was full of a large tour group all dressed in lederhosen and loudly partying it up, so I asked the bartender if I could sit outside. He took my order and said he would bring it out to me. I found a comfy seat under some lighting with my back to a wall, pulled out my novel, and sipped on my cappuccino. No one else was outside but me. Suddenly, the sound of fireworks rang out in the pitch black (I couldn't see them from where I was sitting). Instinctively, I reached toward the ground on my right side looking for my gear to put on (with the intention to gear up and run back inside the bar) when I realised it wasn't there. When I looked down to try and locate it, almost spinning in a 360, I noticed my civilian attire and remembered where I was. I began to breath again. I looked around to see if anyone noticed, but luckily, I was still sitting solo (no witnesses to my crazy moment). I giggled at myself and realised what I must have looked like. I can laugh about it, but I still know why it happened and that I'm not the only one it happens to. I've seen my brother (Gulf War vet) have a reaction and I'm glad I was there for him.🤙 PS. I asked the bartender what it was when I went inside for a refill, and he said it was a fireworks display at a celebration down the road.

Even as a first responder with PTSD, I can relate to this song in so many different ways. When you were talking about trying to find your weapon when you heard those fireworks, I had something close to that happen. A few months ago, when I was hanging out with some friends, we were walking at night, and I'm a bit on guard so I'm not that close to them, I'm looking around, they got ahead of me a bit. They went over this trench in the ground and I'm by myself at this point and when I got up to this trench in the ground, I looked at it and I started going back on scene a bit. Because one of my bad calls, it was dark out, there was a trench outside the residence we were dispatched to, it was a call type that required really fast movements from all of us. We needed to get in that building as fast as possible. Without thinking I jumped over that trench and took off running up that steep hill. When I was out with my my friends and I jumped that trench, it took me a few seconds or a few minutes to realize I wasn't on scene at all. I'm miles away from where that call was. Great video sir. There is this song called When Those Sirens are gone by Kevin Davison its a really good song if you want to check it out. .

First off, Thank You for your service. This song has two different singers and videos. Both make me cry for our men and women who sacrificed so much. Especially with our current members of government and the lack of respect they show for our vets.

This song has two different singers because one stole it from the other. This being the version. From the guy who stole it. (It’s out there for you to find so don’t question me ). But don’t let that take from the message.

@@troywoodhouse3495Looked this up. It says it was written by two men. Bachman and Rossell ( not sure I’ve spelled the names correctly). Both videos are really great.

My brother had ptsd / flashbacks from when he was Nam 67-68 5 th SF GROUP. My nephew has ptsd Engineer Sapper , his Platoon were hit with IED's
He has TBI as well as some of the troopers in his platoon. They were in Afghanistan somewhere.
I did 14 years Army 78-92 10 years in West Germany. I my unit didn't deploy to the first Gulf War , a lot of us ol'timers were not to happy about it.
Been helping my nephew fight the V A for his Disability Ratings.
The one thing that I can say is I helped a Navy Corpman attached to a Recon Unit with his disability and he is now
100 percent disabled SSDI and I helped another brother back in Virginia get his 100 disability rating and his Social Security Disability Ratings.
The Doc thanked me for helping him, I told him the only way you can thank is pass on what I have taught you and help other Vets fight the V A and win.

Are you familiar with Granger Smith? He is another artist who is incredibly active in supporting Active Duty service members and The Veteran Community. Granger has done several USO tours and shows in Iraq and Kuwait. He talked about not just playing the big safer bases, but also going out to smaller FOBs to do shows for guys closer to the front line. Granger also has done at least 5, 100 mile walks in combat boots starting in South Austin and ending at Fort Hood. His purpose was to raise awareness for the all the Men and Women who have Served and are currently surviving our Country. He put out a very moving documentary called "They Were There, A Hero's Documentary" It was a fantastic tribute and fundraiser for our Veterans, taking a look at the lives of 5 fallen soldiers. Granger stated he had learned a lot and hoped to pass on some of the things he had learned including a great deal about the 22 a day. The soundtrack was fantastic and contained a song Granger had written with the same name, "They Were There." It is one of my favorite Granger Smith songs. I would strongly recommend reacting to the song, and watch the Documentary when you get the chance.

@@TormentedVet_Reactions he's a really great guy, I'm saddened, but he is stepping away from Country Music because he felt called to go to Seminary to become a minister. I respect that, but I will miss getting to see him in concert most years!
