There are a lot of questions about staining/sealing the bearing edge and shell. Many things have been tried. Gretsch famously used silver fence paint on its interiors, Ludwig a "granitone" coating... Buddy Rich had multiple coats of lacquer on his interiors. Whatever you do, it will affect the drum's tone. More reflective interior finishes will have more overtones, soft interiors will be more muted. I personally like amber shellac, 4 coats. I'm sure these drums sound good. They look nice!
Hi guys at B.C.W drums!! A dream of mine for years is to build my own drum set and after seeing these video's my dream has come so much closer! BUT, my only question is, how does one find out what angle to cut the blocks, for a particular size drum, then how do you find out what how many is needed for each drum in question?? Any light to shed would be great!! Thanks a million and thank you so much for your inspirational video's!! Best of luck, Shane- drummerdude- Pearson
Hi, i could really do with your help, the spray gun you are using at around 9seconds, could you tell me what type it is, and what is suitable for painting fine sprays on a shell, my current spray gun is far to industrial, and i cant find any answers as to what gun will be suitable for drums. Many thanks.
@nicdrmsforlfe Do you think it will change the sound of the Drum if you stain the inside of the shell or it's better not staining the inside but just the outside?
Masterdrummer why not apply laquer to the inside of the shells? Gretsch used and uses silver coating, ludwig has used different coatings inside their shells forever. Back in the day top drummers like Buddy Rich had the mfg/Ludwig apply thick coats of shellac inside the shells to add projection and to help the shell resonate. Do you know something these pro's don't. Being a masterdrummer yourself can you explain your posting? RPJ
Kids, DO NOT paint the inside of your drums. It looks cool but will make your toms and snare sound SO dead. The bass not so much. I did it to mine for looks and regret ever trying it. Do the job right the first time!
@futureofthewilling haha your drummer isnt a musician.. death metal is the furthest thing from music ive ever heard. and its not like you go on tour and shit.. even if u did it would mean u suck cuz thres no vids of you on youtube besides the one u posted.. i even have other vids of my band on youtube.. my band does gete paid, we were booked for some winter thing idk.. i can play my kit nicely too, that was only for sound qualit.. read the desc. i dont have a job im 15 idc. seriously im astudent

Man I'm building a stave snare 5 x 13". How much would it be to pain it with that beautiful blue color that you show on this video?
What types of clears do you use? Nice work!
if you stain the inside do you think it will bother the sound of the drum, do you think it's better not stain the inside of the shell?
Do you ever do your bearing edges AFTER the finish is applied?

could I please ask did you make the turntable yourself?
If so how did you make it?
@chrometrees what about lacquer inside the drum shell??

@futureofthewilling btw in your vid, you have a cheap ass ocdp kit, so u obviosly dont work for tma
A stave shell is NOT A SOLID DRUM SHELL. You must know better. If you don't get an education.
