Where No One Stands Alone - Elvis Presley [Live]

- A live recording with vocals and piano from Elvis Presley at his concert in Montgomery, Alabama on February 16th 1977.
"Where No On Stands Alone" is a beautiful gospel song that Elvis recorded at the legendary RCA Studio B, Nashville, Tennessee in May 1966 for his Grammy award winning album "How Great Thou Art", released in 1967. (N.B. Please ignore the original video text that forgets this information)
This live recording, exactly 6 months before his death aged just 42, is one of the most poignant moments on stage in Elvis' career. From nowhere, Elvis decided to sit at the piano, and perform this old gospel number for the one and only time on stage. Totally unrehearsed, it appears that his band and backing singers either couldn't remember the song or didn't know it at all.
Elvis launches into an impassioned effort, despite his failing health and delivers a performance and lyric that struck a resonance with his current situation that is impossible to ignore. With his life and career seemingly slipping away from him, Elvis seemed a broken and lost man, a victim of his own unprecedented success. The only place he knew to turn to was God, and that night, on that stage, he sung his heart out, in a cry for help.
(Words & Music written by Mosie Lister)
Once I stood in the night
With my head bowed low
In the darkness as black as could be
And my heart felt alone and I cried oh Lord
Don't hide your face from me
Like a king I may live in a palace so tall
With great riches to call my own
But I don't know a thing
In this whole wide world
That's worse than being alone
Hold my hand all the way, every hour every day
From here to the great unknown
Take my hand, let me stand
Where no one stands alone
Take my hand, let me stand
Where no one stands alone
Elvis did certainly record this song.. i have all the gospel collection. This live performance is exceptional. No one ever sang gospel as good as Elvis.. 🙏✝️
Yes it was on the 1967 Grammy award-winning album How Great Thou Art. It was recorded in 1966
I love this song, especially with his duet with Lisa Marie..it is so sad they are both gone😭
THE DUET WITH LISA IS THE BEST WORK OF ANY RECORDING ARTIST EVER!!

@@randydoucet2139Now, they have their rewards. God is ALWAYS WITH THEM🙏❤️🙏
Only a genius like Elvis could sing this song perfectly without having rehearsed it with his band!!!!
A beautiful heartfelt version of one of the best gospel songs ever.Sung by the guy with the most amazing voice ever.
I've been an Elvis fan since I was a boy. He died the year that I was going to go see him live in Portland, Oregon. With all respect to this video, indeed Elvis did record this song because I used to listen to it on an LP record when I was 12 years old. It was one of the first songs that I memorized and learned to play on guitar, and I got it from an Elvis album.
Only he didn't die. He's the most popular person in the world 🌎 still to this day. Look closely around and he won't be too hard to find. 😊
this is why he is the greatest singer of all time, he puts everything into a song, makes the hairs on back of neck stand up, from small town in England going to Memphis for August 15th candle lit vigil, to say with thousands of others thank you Elvis.
How can anyone disagree with what you all have said; his last performance was 06-26-1977, he had concerts each week that month & so much of his music was speaking to Christ; I believe as well he knew his time on earth was almost done & it was important that his life, his success & those he loved know the blessings he had felt from God throughout his life; Elvis was a blessing from God just as his voice & his talent he knew was a blessing from God. He is at peace now &his music will live on.
Tears in my eyes i can feel the holy spirit as i listen to this absolutely tremendous singing and raw emotion
Elvis was not totally alone. he always had god walking by his side giving him strength a up lifting him all the way home.
So true. "Stand by me" is the song that got him through hard times. Nothing in this world is done w/o the hand of God in it. Elvis knew this, and his incredible voice never failed him.
I agree Elvis sang this song not for his audience but for himself.
Or- possibly both -
❤
This song is on the CD " Elvis -Peace In the Valley-The Complete Gospel Recordings ". Such a beautiful moving song sung by a Godly man. It a favorite of mine. It always touches my heart .
The voice of God itself.
He sang for himself here. All his soul and passion into that song... amazing
I believe this is how Elvis truely felt on earth. totally alone.
I've been an Elvis fan for so long, yet always come upon something new. I get into different phases of Elvis' career and lately have been into his last year, 1977. It is amazing how strong his voice was right to the end. I didn't realize this was his only live performance of this beautiful song. He seemed very spiritual in his last year, I think he was at peace with his life.

what a lot of the fans did not realize....Elvis is very spiritual...started with gospel music and often after a show would spend time singing gospel song with his group.
I hope so!

Now that a new recording has been released as a duet with Lisa Marie in August 2018.....this live version has a greater meaning!!!
I saw it!! It's beautiful!! I loved❤
Agreed. Amazing job!
Boy, he was something else....The Holy Spirit would come over him and he Never stopped it...he would do what he was supposed to do, whether it be to sing a song ,say a sentence that was profound and unforgettable to someone, throw a ring in the audience, bring a child up on the stage and hug them which was spreading the spirit as well with adults, pay for medical bills for a total stranger and keep in touch with them! The list goes on and on! He always said "I do what I feel" on stage! MOST of it was The Holy Spirit!
Truly!!! Incredible!!!!! Tony

He did this song the best, he probably felt alone but the lord showed him that he was not alone but that the lord was with him, this song he's talking about his life! He put his whole heart and soul into a song!
I feel such an connection with Elvis , something I can't explain !!! This man was loved by millions of people but always at the end of each show , each tour , each night and the night god called him home . He was alone in fame and in death . I fell that way everyday of my life . I'm not famous or rich but I feel alone even in an crowed !!!!
Jesus is able to walk with us in the middle of crowd... Believe that!
brilliant Gospel song, love the chorus, and Elvis sings it to perfection, so heartfelt.
He sings his songs with emotion!!!

The lyrics of this song really describe Elvis’ life.
That’s beautiful. There’s proof he don’t need all the musical orchestra trappings. What soul, that’s lovely. So raw.

This song truly shows Elvis Presley's gospel side. He was a blessing and a true spirit that is now singing in heaven with my mother who passed away last year. Bless you all.
Why are there always a few bloomers showing pants falling down musically challenged probably rap brainwashed fools giving a "thumbs down" on such a wonderful song? Thanks Elvis for all that you brought to us!

This was a special song with a special meaning. Elvis sang it from his heart with his emotion's there for the world to see. There has never been an Entertainer that could make a song touch me and my heart like ELVIS. I will love him forever.
Beauitful
I will be singing this song tomorrow. I think Elvis must have sung every Gospel song in existence - I love it so much, it means a lot to me. He was a beautiful human being .... RIP my dear.
I've always found it amazing that audiences gave such respect to Elvis when he sang gospel or songs such as this. Total quiet and listening. Amazing.
i got goose bumps listening to this!
knowingElvis, you are so right. this beautiful man, who knows hes at the end of it all, you can literally feel him crying out - it's such a special performance, a one of a kind, hearing him deliver the lines like he did 'like a king, i may live. in a palace, so tall, with great riches, to call, my own, but i dont, know a thing, in this whole, wide world, thats worse, than being, alone...' music was the only way he expressed his true feelings.
Elvis from the heart. Still trying to push himself right to the end .The greatest.
Elvis, will always be my King of Rock n Roll, forever and ever...miss you..
I agree with the posters that Elvis' voice wasnt what it once was. But this is a great spontaneous, raw performance. I love it ! Thanks for sharing it.
This version and the version in the 1960's both are simply Superb.
Elvis will never be serpassed,
all the other greats, Ie.. michael jacksoon, Frank sinarta, The Beatles... even the Artists of this generation are all only Contenders.
Well done Elvis for an amazing list of songs.
forever your Fan.
I can say that I was there for this concert when I was 15 yrs old. I still have my concert ticket stub and some great photos of Elvis at Garrett Coliseum. Glad that I got to see Elvis In Concert!
He recorded this in the 60's but your right he never sang this on stage.. Very passionate performance!!
underbart! Finns ingen som uppnår samma höjd som Elvis. Denna man har följt mig genom alla mina svåra och bra upplevelser. Tack Elvis, du finns i mitt hjärta nu som då!
One of my favourites x
The greatest performance of his career
The magic of Elvis will live forever.
My sister had the album with this song on it... love it and Elvis does SO well with gospel songs. I couldn't believe someone said (like in the book) to not have him sing any more gospel songs at his own home. They would definitely be missing out! Anyone who truly knows about his life, knows Elvis is a Christian and that God is always there for us.
Singing his life story, he was telling us he had found Jesus, and was about to leave us as we knew him! He told us his story through song. God bless him wherever he is. 🥰😇❤💥
Beautiful gospel song sung by Elvis ,he puts such feeling into it x

Until We Meet In HEAVEN...
HE WAS SO LONLY THEN I LOVE YOU ELVIS!
Whether rock, blues, ballad, country, or pop, each number sung by Presley instantly became a gospel song in the sense of being graced by an astonishing comprehension of the human condition ably expressing both the mortal agony & exalting joyous dignity of man as incarnate bearer of the Divine image. No other voice in music so charismatically captured this ontological truth. Elvis' voice spanned love's spectrum & depth manifest in all its forms: eros, philia, & agape. He was an anointed one.
thats ok. i know exactly how you feel. i feel every word you said. the reassurance in his voice when singing gospel songs is what gets me through my darkest times.
The best there ever is the best there ever is WAS. &. THE BEST THERE EVER WILL. BE.
I love this song, I grew up on Elvis gospel, it still touches me deep and makes me feel so safe.
Thankyou so much for sharing:)
He did not feel good during this show as we all can see - yet - with The soul stirring power of The Holy Ghost - our Elvis nailed it!
It was so heartfelt wow
I believe Elvis Presley knew he wouldn't be here long I believe he always wanted to be reunited w his mom a brother. His life was never the same without them he looked for a brother in every man a a mother in every woman. His mom's death made a great impact on his adult life his life was so lonely without her.
I have never heard this song. Thank you You tube . I will have to find my How Great Thou art album. I have been an Elvis fan for many years and so enjoy listening to real music from this Man the King of Rock and Roll.
Elvis Presley wanted his fans to Know he wanted to go to Heaven in this song he left so many messages behind him in his 70 s songs. He wanted to go to a place where no one stands alone. Heaven was his destiny.
The greatest for all the time, thank's a lot Elvis.
I love Elvis he Talked to you in his songs that related to him a his lonely personal life. I believe Elvis was born Gods chosen one. Yes he sinned we all do he was only human. But I need when he was alone he was constantly praying a meditating a talking to God a his mom. Elvis carried his faith alone. But his love a faith never wavered in God a he never forgot where he came from. I believe Elvis was clothed in God's shining radience of love a joy poor a lonely at heart. Elvis was truely something Else. Rip my Mr Songman. Love a Miss you. Sandra Miller 2017.
Excellent. He did record this song in the studio though in the 1960s.
Thank you for posting this rare and historically significant recording of Elvis singing "Where No One Stands Alone". Elvis received this album, written and recorded by Don Gibson (it was his first Gospel Album) the year after Elvis beloved Mother passed away. Elvis had to purchase extra copies of this album as he played it so much as the songs helped him cope with the loss of his Mother. Thanks again, take care and may God bless you.

Yes. Elvis was HEAVEN SENT. Like. No one else could ever be. He sure was SOMETHING ELSE...
I also saved my lifetime money to visit Graceland 10 years ago - all the way from Peru. It was like going to heaven!!
His being the Entertainer of the 20th Century should say it all.
He recorded this then Lisa Marie recorded it with him… beautiful. ❤
Oh my god.....this man was god himself....such passion and strength that was his to the end.... miss you Elvis.
Boy could this guy sing, never herd this before and it was a big surprise.
