As someone who still gets acne at almost 40 and also doesn't wear make up let me say: You are awesome. Thank you for not covering up your face and showing the world what real human skin looks like. You rock! ❤️

    • @Avendesora
      @Avendesora 10 місяців тому

Do you use any cleansers on your face? Human skin has natural oils that keep bad bacteria out of our pores, and it can easily be removed with cleansers and leave you super prone to acne. I had it really bad until I switched to just scrubbing with a cloth and hot water. Acne is totally natural and this solution won't help everybody, but if you find zits to be painful or uncomfortable it could provide some relief :)

Same! I'm 36 and get hormonal acne once or twice a month. It's just one of the many joys of having PCOS.
Katie is just a good reminder that we should live our lives anyway and not worry so much about how we look!

As an avid baker, a mom to adult children and someone who is a "recipe guarder," I think you should tell her. I am so happy when my kids out-cook me. It makes me super proud of them, and not gonna lie, it makes me feel that I did a good job laying the groundwork for them. If she made those cookies for years, she probably already knows you tweaked it anyway!

(I apologize if you've done this already)Have you ever thought about a flower language soap?Like you pick a certain meaning/feeling you want to give across and pick flowers with meanings accordingly for the scent,embeds/botanicals and the colors of those flowers or a color that almost always has the same meaning (for example white).Could even make the potential frosting look like a bouquet?

Definitely bring up the recipe to your mom! The whole reason that recipes are passed down in the family is to make them better with each generation. You've done exactly what you needed to do!

Lmao your changes to the cookie recipe are 100% valid. I can't think of a single recipe from my grandparents or great-grandma that came out "just as good" until my mom straight up asked grandma what was up. She cackled and said she tweaks all her recipe cards to be juuuuust a little different from her personal cookbook (like 2/3 cup sugar instead of 1/2 cup, bake for 40 minutes instead of an hour, etc.) so they always gotta come back to her house for the full experience. Not to accuse your mom of recipe shenanigans, but I fully approve of getting into recipe shenanigans for yourself! And feel free to share that perfected recipe with us! 👀

As the last baker in my family who is fascinated by the science of food i find recipes made way back in the day were incredible and i loved that they were versatile depending on what you had back then.
I would also like to say that my family has some recipes from the older generation that we keep for safe keeping and that it is almost a competition on who can take that same recipe and put their own style into it and see if it makes it better or worse lol

If your mom is anything like my mom she already knows! My mom has a buttercream frosting recipe that's generations old at this point. It is famous around our small town and with our family. One time, I was making it and was low on one ingredient and subbed a bit more of another. It came out fluffier and creamier and was a total hit! I kept making it for a while, not admitting to changing the recipe. I totally thought she had no idea until I overheard her telling someone about how they had to try "my frosting" and how it was like the family recipe but fluffier. 😂😂😂 I should have realized after all these years she would absolutely know the difference!

Baby of my family here (but also almost 40 married mom of 2): honesty is always best. Tell your mom the truth, but do it gently with love. You’ve already told the internet; it’s only a matter of time before she finds out anyway and it’ll hurt less if she hears it directly from the daughter she loves 😉

You should totally tell your mom! I love baking and one of my favorite things to do is mess around with the ingredients a bit to make it a bit more to my taste. Messing around with proportions is hard for me in baking and if you can do it well and make already awesome cookies even better, more power to you. Besides, then if she wants those cookies specifically, she can make them when you giver her the recipe.

She has been gone for several years now, and my mom and I on a whim just decided to add about a 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a batch. It took them to the next level. Not me immediately wanting to drop some more soap to send your way so hopefully I can get a free bar because I sent you some designs before and I'm pretty well aware of why they never got made and that's because of more of the fragrance than anything else I'd say because of how it would interact with those colors. But now I think I'm going to draw up some soap designs for maybe next Valentine's Day. I've got some ideas now 😍👌

I so appreciate your authenticity and transparency Katie! It has taken me my entire adult life to finally accept my skin as it is, when it is acne covered as much as when it is clearer. I hope that young women (any age really) see you and recognize their own natural beauty and worth and that there is no need to ever cover up, unless it is what you want to do. Makeup should be a fun and joyful thing to do, not an expectation or obligation to cover up our natural beauty. I have no fun with makeup so I don't wear it, but if it is fun wear it! All that to say, thank you for being you! It gives me more confidence to walk boldly in who I am!

So much fun this sope. I like it best with just the dropswirl. And I understand you cookie dilema. But I do think your mom already know that you use her recepy and put your own spin on it. But issn´t that a pretty thing. Now its your combined recepy. And maiby Lilly will take it over one day and do the same. :)

I can't thank you enough for sharing your very real, beautiful face with us. As an adult with acne too, it meant a lot. I wish I could have heard people talking about it the way you did when I was a teenager

I think you can tell her and frame it as you enhanced her recipe. They were amazing and you just built upon it. Because after all you wouldn't have your recipe without hers!

You said “let’s talk about the elephant in the room” and I literally hadn’t even noticed your acne breakout until you said something about it. I think it is great that you talk about this insecurity, but I hope you know that we all love you for your sparkling personality and talent in making soap!

I feel like having the green in there from the inspiration would really set this one off. It is pretty though and I enjoy the channel.

I appreciate that you didn’t cover your acne! I’ve struggled with it for a long time, went on accutane twice and the second round was for a whole year. I’m 25. I just have to accept it as a part of life now

The red for the lips would be a good vibrant color. I really do like the red color in the soap. I think it needs it for the strawberries.

I'm always super honest with my mom, ESPECIALLY about cooking related stuff (baking not so much, since that's my job in the family anyway, she dislikes baking lol). I gave her a lot of advice ove the years which only improved her cooking and while she was admittedly a bit offended at first, in the end she was grateful and implemented a lot of my ideas. So I say... Be honest with your mother, too. :3 Tell her how much you cherish her original recipe, but also be open with her about the changes you made. It's like...Her recipe grew up and evolved and that's something beautiful, don't you think? ♥

Keep both recipes! We just made some of my grandma's sugar cookie recipe this Christmas (2nd Xmas since she died) and boy were they sticky and not very sweet, but the taste held so many memories and so much nostalgia! Your mom's recipe will always be her's and probably beloved by people who want something a bit less sweet.

Katie, you love and respect your mom so much and that's why you don't want to hurt her. And it's obvious you are grateful that she raised you to be who you are today.
In terms of the cookies, what would your mom advise if it was your sister's recipe and your mom know the dilemma. Do that.
