Dennis Cipcich shares his awesome G Scale / Gauge Model Railroad train layout he calls “The Blue Stone Ridge Railroad”.
Dennis started the idea of the layout in 2006. This layout includes a beautiful garden, waterfalls, and a Koi fish pond!
Every area on the layout is complete. The engines, cars, and scenery on the layout are of the highest quality, all add realism, and just a wonderful experience to view.

here's a few ideas for diy railroad layout construction
Find a proven set of plans online
Find a colleague who wants to build one too so you have another person to encourage you
(I discovered these and the reasons they work from Jareks hobby club website )

Bri I as a young dude, I have grown up with garden railways in my backyard. All you need is enough space, money, and time. If time is limited, there isn’t any requirement as to how large it must be. Once I’m solo I’m gonna start simple.
I hope i will able to do something like that when I retired, I mean financially capable.

Lou Costabile Yeah, this video was recommended for me on You Tube because I watched RC car and plane videos I think. I almost didn't watch but the guy reminded me of my grandfather and he had a lot of passion for what he does.

That's quite a few to keep me busy for a while. Some of the ones I've seen really capture the spirit of an age gone by, many representing features that will never be seen in real life again.

Great layout but Im a HO scale guy myself.G is to big and the upkeep seems a bit of work for me.Love this layout though and I hope the Rail Society does a G scale layout here in Hawaii in their train yard. What a great way to show off those awesome model cars :D Do the cars require upkeep after it snows or rains and do they rust on the wheel bases and screws? Lovely jubbly mate simply amazing.

i guess im lucky. a dairy hain closed and i had to remove a lgb g scale lay out from 9 locations, i was going to chuck them all out with the rest of the crap but something told me to tell my co op kid to take them apart and putthem in my spare garage.
If there is million $$$ RR on this planet. That might be it. I didn't catch everything he said about Winter. I know the Trains go inside. Do all those Buildings stay out for the Winter. I have been on the W.side of Chicago. Temps hit -20.
It’s one thing if you have a short point to point line, but this line has loops, trestles, ponds, towns, villages, waterfalls, rock work, integrative foliage, car models, and more. There are no requirements that it must be this complex. Sometimes simpler is better.

Wonder how do you keep a good track contact. For some reason my G scale oval track gets bad contact pretty quick. After wiping it with a wet paper towel get things fixed, but not for long.
Hmmm, not sure why you're having that issue? Are you running the trains somewhat consistently?

Wonderful layout! I have a few questions though. even with the nichol track, how do you keep it clean enough for electricity to pass to the wheels? I have used this same type of track and have problems with it even indoors. Yes, it is better than the bronze (or what ever type) track, but it still seems like you would end up with many spots the train would lose power. Do you have a track cleaning car? Is there even such a thing? Showing my ignorance here.

A lot of the big budget garden trains I see dominates the yard. This design fits beautifully into the landscape as if it belongs there. I'll remember this one when I dream about my own garden rail. Someday....

Dennis, and Bill in memorium, words just can't say enough, but I'll try... your train display is just amazing, spectacular, and down right beautiful. I have a G-Gauge set with 2 trains that I set up with the kids for Christmas, in the house, that runs all over the living room with switch tracks and cross tracks; it's just a lot of fun. So with that in mind, you can imagine how I could spend hours just sitting and watching your trains and the wonderful scenery. So peaceful, and the detail is stunning. You can really get lost and make up your own story-line in your head while you gaze away...

Not all of the video, but in places you were moving the camera too fast, and in a number of places you needed to keep the camera still, as a number parts were hard to see.

very nice to see but the cameraman is just not okay, he can not film and moves too fast, zooms too much in, i feel my stomach already, a pitty!!
He is doing it with a hand held camera with no tripod or monopod, from what it looks like, while trying not to damage anything. Felt he did pretty good under those circumstances. But I would recommend them getting at least a tripod, and possibly a drone if they are going to continue doing this kind of stuff.
A drone would of worked well for this. I assume the warping of some of the videos was caused by auto stabilization and not my beer?
David Rook Guess you are right for a part, but zooming in and out and moving so fast was just not neccessary. But better something then nothing I guess but miss also the overview of the whole area in the video

How do you keep the track clean from the outside weather conditions plus how keep animals and stuff from walking all over it. Other then that it's pretty cool
Hi, I asked Dennis and he replied, The track and some of the buildings protecting electronics stay out all year. The track is 100% nickel-silver, which is the least corrosive metal versus the available options, and weathers very well. I use a 3M metal buffing pad on the end of a drywall sanding pole and simply walk around the layout to clean the track, usually in the spring and once or twice during the season. The "yard track" in the garage is a combination of brass and nickel-silver and gets a cleaning once a year.
As for animals, I have been lucky in that they have not created any damage, especially to wiring, up to this point. Chipmunks, squirrels and birds travel around the layout at will. I have put up a fence with steel poles and fishing line that has been very effective in curtailing blue heron visits. We have even had a deer within the layout but it did no damage.
He should get a snow blower train
A snow Blower train won't do much with the snow they get. Besides who wants to play with Those trains in that weather.

How it works in real life in Illinois.
We get winter storms that are associated with low pressure systems that roll down out of Canada. First there's a warm and wet side. Above freezing with rain. Then the cold front and the rain transitions to snow with temps dropping to teens or below zero.
Point is there's a layer of ice that plowing wouldn't get. Salt.. lol.
I don't think so. Put the trains up until April or May.
Fun idea.

What a wonderful post. I was so mesmerized. This is truly and art form and a hobby that needs to continue and be passed on to generations upon generations. The absolutely impeccable attention to detail is amazing. Not just the landscape and trains, but the town, cars, items on the side of the track, the tunnels, bridges, just amazing; and all outdoors. I had to watch this a couple of times and pause it just to marvel over this work of art. I also enjoyed the interview with Dennis, who comes across as such a cordial man. I was so absorbed by this, I could picture myself there sipping on lemonade as he spoke about his train setup and Bill Valkner (RIP). I like the quote "We will be remembered by the tracks that we leave." I immediately shared this with family members and especially kids, and they were "drop jawed". Their heads kept going back and forth and they kept saying "wow!!" and "oh man look at that!" Again, great post Lou Costabile, good job with quality, questions, and video. To the grand old days of railroad trains!! You made our week!!!!

Really cool... The one improvement that came to mind again and again though was to disguise the base of the buildings. Not sure if that's possible but it would be nice if the gray boards were hidden.

This fellow looks and sounds like my uncle of long ago. He had multiple talents... An engineer with Northern Telecom, he had a beautiful garden with roses, he created that typical miniature rose variety that is everywhere today. At the time it was named after him. Hopefully, this garden will become another legacy for

Speaking as someone who grew up with model trains and just loves trains in general, I cannot state enough how cool I think this is, and how seriously impressed I am with this man's railway; a standard railway takes a lot of time and care to set up, but this looks like heaps of dedication and devotion.

Remarkable! When I was a teenager in the 1960's, I worked as a lifeguard at a church camp near Pickens, SC. There was a man who had purchased an entire Mexican train and laid track for over 8 miles. I don't know what happened to it or if it has been preserved but it might be an interesting area of investigation. Regards!
