"Where have you been for the past 4 decades?" "INVENTING SH*T!!!" Absolutely the funniest line and delivery lol. With that much energy and pain behind it, you can tell he wasn't lying.
I was telling this to friends years ago when we were talking about how a person can create original ideas. They thought the key was to lock themselves away and work on ideas they never heard of before. I told them that was stupid because what if someone else had already did the idea before or during you being locked away. At that point you're just fooling yourself until you start talking to others. Original ideas today are more of a new "Flavor", rather than a new "Ingredient". New Ingredients can happen but they often happen around the introduction of revolutionary technology leaps.
Original ideas don't exist, everything is derivative. The best way to come up with something approximating original is to take in as many ideas as you can and produce something better or different using what you've learned, or in other words research and development. Creativity isn't magic that happens inside of your head, it's a process like anything else.
Basically me but instead of videos it was a fakemon I made in high school that was basically Ceruledge. I probably still have the original drawing somewhere. Obviously it wasn't exactly the same, and was slightly different typing (fire/psychic instead of fire/ghost), and I never showed it to anyone so obviously no one stole my idea or anything, but it was still uncannily similar.
my friend to this day credits me with the idea for spotify group listen. i told him a year before it came out it would be cool to share the song you are listening to with people close to u wirelessly thru bluetooth or wifi or something. year later he tells me "hey remember that idea you had. its on spotify now. Man I feel that. I've developed 2 math equations to calculate long distance travels and they already existed. The fun part was explaining to my wife how I broke the table over some math shenanigans.
I had a similar experience with one idea. I said that they should make cords with lights on them so you could differentiate which cord belonged to what and so you could see behind desks and televisions. Then someone showed me an image of light up HDMI/USB cords and I was like "Well it's about time."
I had the idea for filming movies. Maybe they could have a second team shoot secondary scenes, to save time. Years later I learn about the 'second unit'. And how it's decades older than I am.
Not really related to the video per se, but I dread this happening to me. I'm an aspiring scriptwriter but I'm afraid by the time I finally get to finish my script, look for who to buy, and it finally gets produced, acted and animated, it would already be late, because times might have changed and similar stories might have come out. It's a real dreadful feeling.
If similar stories are out and popular at the same time you release yours, that's a good thing. It means there's a market for it, and production companies will be more willing to throw money at it because they know there's audiences who will want to watch it. Completely "original" ideas are more uncertain, that's why it seems like networks never want to give new projects a chance. Think about how much romance, fantasy, and science fiction media are similar to others in their respective genres. It's because their audiences know what they want (romance, magic, spaceships, etc) and will never get tired of consuming more of it, as long as there are unique ideas within that same general concept.
as long as you don't plagiarize somebody else, it's actually ok to write anything at all. There is no way that your story could be similar to someone else's *word for word* that's impossible. Just don't copy paste someone else and it's all ok. In stories, no one *owns* a troupe, they only own/copyright the *expression* of the troupe. For example, the underdog troupe is a very beloved one. I can write my own underdog named Jack with half-baked magical powers, but I can not write Midoriya Izuku who is powerless and wants to be a hero (My Hero Academia anime). Hope it makes sense.
The sad part is if he did actually independently create those inventions without any outside knowledge then this man is one of the top engineers of all time. It took teams of specialized engineers to create one thing. To create several is genius level. Unfortunately many smart men just like this end up dying alone, penniless and never recognized, so the world never gets that advancement that could have been utilized. After thinking about this, have a nice day.
This could be a time machine skit in the future where someone came back from the future having stole Caleb's ideas and then going back further before Caleb presents the idea. Thus making Caleb look dumb. That'd be fire 🔥 📛
Bruh I actually relate to this, I was trying to make engines in besiege for the longest time and when they released a logic update I could use sensors to time the engine, after making a whole car powered by a piston engine, I looked on the workshop only to find people making way faster ones or flying helicopters with them and shit
though I learned later that most people just put a wheel in their engines and dont power their engines with the pistons, and that was after I built a piston powered plane
Can't hold you, I really like that you stick to making videos you actually wanna do. It's kinda rare among youtubers so I appreciate it a lot, but I have been DYING for more superhero interviews. That shit is a gold mine for real
I like how slapping a sensor on a toilet took him 35 years but making a glorified gogogadget-all in one pack and *map of the whole world* only took him 5 years.
When I started highschool I had this idea for a superhero movie that focused on heroes who weren't really good people behind closed doors. You wouldn't believe what I called it.... Yup. The Boys. Imagine my heartbreak when I learned this already existed right down to the title.
I've always thought of the concept that some of the greatest inventions were possibly invented by two different inventors, around the same time period, or even at the same time, but in different locations. Thus making it a matter of who publicized thier invention first, to be able to be deemed as the first "inventor" of something, rather than it being the concept of who actually invented this thing first. I believe there could possibly be a lot of hidden discrepancies with patents, copy rights, and ownerships, that will never truly be known.
Plot twist: He’s actually the inventor of all those things. After the failed interview, he went on to inventing again and this time invented a time machine. With it, he traveled back in time and presented all the inventions.
Oof, this hit hard. I had the idea of making a special paper, coated with butter to use when baking. Yep, it's the paper wrapped around a stick of butter. But, like, mine was gonna be sold separately. *sigh*
