The compact needs a lighter recoil spring its pretty stiff thats causing the malfunctions. Galloway precision sells the -10% recoil spring got mine the other day and no malfuctions since.
Back in the '90's I had a Ruger P89 I bought used and the pistol would not extract a cartridge. I inspected it and found the extractor was jammed out and not in towards breach face. I laid pistol on it's side and pressed a screwdriver against it and it gave way and went in. I found a sliver of brass casing had jammed it open. Someone had traded in the pistol because of this without troubleshooting the problem.
Because of health reasons and hand strength, I only own revolvers in .22 and .38 Smith and Wesson load. I am interested at the new Taurus 856+P. 38 special. Incase you get a hold of one. I would like to see you test it out. Thanks Hicock45. Love your videos.
I just bought the security 9- compact. So far, so good. I won't doubt the Glock 26 is technically better. After all the Glock costs $200 more! When I rented the Glock 26, I had the worst time dealing with FTE/limp-wristing, because the grip was like trying to hang onto a square wooden block! I didn't have that problem with the Ruger.

It is a defense pistol, those failures didn't bode well for Security 9 owners. I wonder if the Ruger was new, and needed a couple of hundred rounds of break in. I know Kahr used to ship at least some models with a warning to fire 200 rounds before considering the pistol broken in. That was years ago though. Multiple misfunctions not good though. I hope Ruger sees this & sends him some pistols to try out.
The Security 9 pistol is a fine shootin' iron for the price. Ruger scored a hit with that one, and now comes the compact version, also bound to be popular. Re: the FTEs that Hickok experienced, most self-loaders need a break-in period; I wouldn't be surprised if that was the issue. Sometimes, it's because they just don't "like" a particular loading.
I bought it after watching your review, and I've been impressed. Still working on better grouping, but my accuracy is doing better. Got about 200 rounds through it and 0 issues. I also can use the same Fobus passive retention holster I used with my Ruger P95, didn't even have to adjust it.

My ec9s has that first failure you had constantly. Exact same one. Keeps the spent round in the chamber and double feeds a new one. It does that twice per 7 round mags sometimes. I'm disappointed with Ruger for that. I thought they were quality
Buckets of ammo through my SR9 and SR9c and I'm trying to remember if either of them have ever jammed in any way. Odd that the new hotness is having struggles to replace what worked just fine.
I don't know how many times I've watched this video. I bought this pistol because it fit my hand the best. Yes my gun failed to eject a few times. After a good cleaning no problem.
An unrelated question for hickok45. What do you think about using snakeshot rounds for Non-Lethal self defense? I use a Ruger 357 to kill snakes with snakeshot rounds. I wonder if they would make a good consealed carry Non-Lethal round for my Smith J-Frame enclosed hammer 38? Please consider doing a video on the use of snake shot rounds of different types on targets with analysis. There are times you don't want to kill your opponent. Just injure them enough to leave you alone. Snake shot might be the answer to this situational problem.
Thank you for all your videos. My wife even watches your reviews. We both value you experience. Great gun wish I could get it in California. What holster are you using in the video?
NYC doesn’t let you have anything. You need special requirements to just a pistol for home protection. You are only allowed to carry it in case unloaded to a range and back. It sucks living here.
Not sure but why you didn't put the sleeve on the long mag? It's there for a reason. Would like to see you shoot it with sleeve and see if there are still malfunctions.
One of the big differences between it and the Glock is that the Ruger is hammer fired instead of striker fired. That explains why the slide has to go further back to cock it.
I recently bought a mosin 91/30. It’s a grade 3 but in great shape the wood is remarkably well kept and finished. There’s alittle pitting on the bolt but that’s about it. The only time I’ve ever had buyers remorse after purchasing a Ruger (LC9S) was finding out about the Sig P365 afterwards.
Yeah man you're missing out i love the p365 but rugers my favorite gun company
I definitely regretted my LC9, but mostly for the looooong trigger. LC9s cured that nicely.
@@Stevarooni yeah that's one of the main reasons i got rid of my original lcp i hated that trigger pull
@@rustyshackleford9604 the LC9 Pro was pretty good, but the hammer didn't appeal to me.
You paid way less. I own both. The sigp365 is a great shooter but the lc9s is cheaper so good to bang a round in my toolbox
Still watching you after years , still wanting to buy almost every firearm you test.
Thanks!, I've been looking forward to seeing your review of this pistol.
The malfunctions are a disappointment.
If you figure out what caused them, I'd be interested in seeing a 'chapter2'.
I was thinking a schpritz of Rem Oil or some such...
How can a magazine induce a failure to extract?
I agree with that as Ruger guns are made well. I have four different ones. Would really like to know if it was the gun or the extended magazine. Thank you Hickok 45 Sir and John for all your hard work.
It failed during his self defense reenactment with the original magazine also yikes ...
Maybe it just needs more breaking in ? I'd wait a little bit before I purchase one to be sure
Thanks for the video. Big fan of yours and the original security 9. Love how it pairs with the pc carbine.
It is ironic that your large frame, Security 9, performed so well. But that compact model seems to have feeding / jamming issues. Perhaps you should get another and try a chapter 2 review? But I would contact Ruger too. (Good luck with your Summer allergies.)
I actually bought a second one and will do a Chapter 2.
@@hickok45 Thats great! (Lets hope it functions better, but I'm sure it will.) I have 2 Ruger American pistols, and one magazine seems to Not lock the slide back, from time to time...I need to call Ruger and get the mag. replaced. I still like Ruger products though!
I like when you start off shooting from the beginning of the video.
Jesus the accuracy on this man is insane, I thought i was doing good (new 1st time gun owner) cuz I was getting nothing but head shots on paper targets but watching this man always makes me depressed 💔🤣 he's too good
hickok is the bob ross of guns
Not a Ruger Fan. Very good Video, Guys, as always!
Learning so much all about safety not only talk but showing me on video
Yesss.. Ive been waiting for this video.
I have used the long mag for a few hundred rounds with maybe 1 problem crazy that you had two in one video also out of 3 pistols I use often my aim is best with this one. First time shooting it in low light with a flashlight in one hand 8, 10 hits on a 3 inch steel plate I’ve completely grown fond of this one even over my 500$ pistol
CZ-P10 S ! The world awaits your vid on that !
He did a video on it a couple years back, but I'd love to see a chapter 2. My favorite striker ever!
@@kmsharley75 the P10 S is the new subcompact . The P10 C was the original one he did back in 2017 I think it was . I'm thinking about getting one , but I'd like to see Hickock's opion first.
@@kmsharley75 oops , I just saw that I had typed P10 C ! I'm gonna blame autocorrect , lol .
Tracy Stubblèfield happens all the time,no biggie. Love to see a video on the full size and subcompact myself.
As well as a chapter 2 on the compact. Love that gun!
It's an excellent pistol. Love shooting it
When it started malfunctioning I thought maybe i was watching a review of a Beretta Nano by mistake.
Why have you had a lot malfunctions with the nano?
@@daleboyrdm mine was awful. It failed to extract constantly. I not sure i ever made it to 50 rounds without a failure so I eventually gave up on it. Some people say that it works if you used 124 grain or heavier ammo but I had failures with that too.
@@Patrick-zm8jp I used 115 federal with my nano no issues but I did get rid of it cuz just didn’t like the size in my hand needed some bigger
My ec9s has that first failure you had constantly. Exact same one. Keeps the spent round in the chamber and double feeds a new one. It does that twice per 7 round mags sometimes.
I'm disappointed with Ruger for that. I thought they were quality
I always buy my weaponry from Gun’s Bun Shop! 😂😂 love Hickok!
The absolute coolest old timer ever!
How far away is that large black circle target? 250 feet? You were just hitting under it, in the same 4-5 inches on the ground.
Thx 4 tht info
Good day,
Great video as usual and many thanks for sharing, thumbs up and best regards from New Zealand.
Glad to see you've got your pot addiction under control. Not a single "smoke" in the video
This man had an LCP in his pocket... What a legend.
Another great video.Good luck in the future.
Still love your videos and I appreciate you love for shooting.
Thank you for all your videos. My wife even watches your reviews. We both value you experience. Great gun wish I could get it in California. What holster are you using in the video?
You are so blessed. Living in state that allows you to have or shoot almost anything.
What states don't?
NYC doesn’t let you have anything. You need special requirements to just a pistol for home protection. You are only allowed to carry it in case unloaded to a range and back. It sucks living here.
CT sucks too.
Review the daisy RED RYDER next please...
I've watched a lot of your videos just subscribed you do an incredible job thanks
How can I check for any pitting in the barrel? And what’s the best way to store this firearm to persevere it’s current condition?
I need a shooting range like yours.
Who else is pumped for Hickok reviewing the Yeet cannon
The first security 9 model shot really low. How is the poa to poi?
My LCP ii shoots really low also.
@@DamionJR4923 my lcp 2 shoots great compared to my old lcp 1 . The security 9 is a nice pistol. Just shoots too low.
would like to see you do a video on the new Taurus 22lr semi-auto, have been looking at one ,am waiting to get more info before I " pull the trigger" . I have had bad experiences with Taurus in the past....
So use your experience and Don't buy one ....get a S&W or anything else.
I couldn't hit the thumbs up button hard enough !
this in Intro is the best !
Look at the pocket lint on Hickok’s lcp2!!!!! U should sent the lint to buds and see how much someone will pay for Hickok 45’s pocket lint!!!! Lol
😂
An individual told me that the security 9 was copatible with the m&p-9 mags? Anybody know if that is true?
“Cuz it goes bang.” That’s why we love ya Hickok. lol
Just added this to my collection today. Been looking at but going with the Taurus g2 and g3 line. Going to the range tomorrow to test it out! Can’t wait
My ec9 had the same issues for the first 100 rounds or so, after that it seems to work fine
Hey Hickock45...have you thought about reviewing a CZ-2075 RAMI?
