Claire your getty-ness (is that a word?) 🤭 Anyway I got it now. My Darling husband bought me a gallon of silicone. I feel like a hoarder (or maybe a squirrel collecting nuts) collecting little things from friends houses to mold HELP I CAN'T STOP.....Love ya girl...
It is important to bake your clay at the temperature on the package, never lower, it needs the higher temperature to cure correctly. You heat the oven first to get it to the right temperature. Use a tent so it will not burn, my tent is the top of the aluminum disposable roasting pan. I love your enthusiasm!!
I'm amazed at how much detail still comes through the cling wrap. I would have thought for sure that it would wipe out any of the subtleties but apparently not! Many thanks for a new technique to try!
Great video Claire. I might have to try this you know lol I love that turtle and omg you made a lot of silicone lol . So glad you used it though. Happy crafting hun xx
@@ClairesCraftyCorner I got a great big block for making coaster molds and other pieces for resin. Non Harding modeling clay. is what you type in to search.
Any reason why you don’t use air dry clay? Given the length of time you left the clay to cool down I wouldn’t have thought there was much in it time wise? Just curious 😊
Heyyyy Sylver ... DAS Air Dry clay would have taken anywhere from 3 days to a week to fully dry.... I have made many air dry clay projects and it takes days.
If you need only two or three castings at a time it may be possible to make them without baking the clay? This would mean the clay could be reshaped and re-used?
If its polymer clay it would be slightly oily, so moisture shouldn't be a problem. The whole casting procedure is fascinating, so many different materials each with their own properties.
Hi Claire! How are you doing? I had a question about jesmonite (like always 😂). Sometimes when I pour the jesmonite, my moulds' shape expands. Sometimes the end product comes out as it should but sometimes it has bulges in the middle or the entire product just gets bloated. Due to all this, I end up using a lot more Material than measured as per the water method. Like just now, I was making a pot and it was supposed to use 264g of liquid but instead it used 364. I had to actually pour in another layer of 100g to fill the mould. Do you have any idea as to why this would be happening? Thank you in advance!💜
Heyyyy Kalika ... yes this happens usually with the cheapest moulds I have had this happen many times. With trays and shapes you can prop them up .. but with plates etc .. I haven't found a way to combat this sadly.
@@ClairesCraftyCorner That's sad 😐 I had imported some moulds from China because they weren't available in India but I guess they weren't worth the money 🥺 Thank you for replying 💕
I wonder if pressing the mold into rice, making sure it's level, would support the sides enough to keep the shape. Beans might provide more support too. Or you could try adding silicone caulk to the outer sides to reinforce it. You could also try using a block of flower foam. Just press the mold into it hard & then if needed carve out underneath the mold. Then use a level to insure it's still even. At the end you should theoretically have a nice flower foam block for whenever you use that mold. You could also try making your own mold out of the old mold but with reinforced sides. The easiest would be just to find a better mold right from the start. If you can even find one at all. Just some ideas. Take it or leave it. I just can't help but try & fix a problem. Or rather usually just give the ideas. I don't usually try them out. Plus I'm still kind of new to resin. So I haven't tried things out much.

The way you pressed the shells gave me so much anxiety in case they broke lol 😆
Ohhhh haaaa trust me ... my brain was like ... can these break? 🤣🤣
I have been trying to figure out how to silicone a crab shell so that I have the whole thing inside and out. I make tidepools with them.
If you need only two or three castings at a time it may be possible to make them without baking the clay? This would mean the clay could be reshaped and re-used?
