  • Crankcase re-assembly, we start with the upper crankcase just back from getting replated; I re-install everything taken off this case to replate it (fittings, bearing, oil pipe) and then reinstall the newly rebuilt transmission.

I have a 99 R1 with 30,000 touring highway miles, rarely ever seen more than 8,000 rpm. Still runs like new, I do all maintenence/repairs. I commend you on your patience; very well thought out and thank you for taking the time to post all these videos, but I was just curious what a low mileage used motor would cost compared to rebuilding?

Thank you for your nice words erbible1. A used motor where I live (southern California) would have been much cheaper than rebuilding, probably around $500. Used R1 motor's aren't worth much on the open market, and the reason is that you don't know what you are getting - it could be a pristine motor with no issues that came from a crashed bike, or it could be trashed. With older motors, its more likely to be trashed.

Yes, I used the green plastigauge, it was the best for checking the tolerances involved in this rebuild.

@FrankieG426 I got mine done at Millennium Technologies. It cost me $514 plus shipping ($80). I'm very happy with the result.

you did pretty amazing work by the way! i rebuilt my 02 r6 about 8 months ago and its roughly the same motor so it should be tooo much of a price difference...(i hope -.-)

@BrandonLeeHeryford $600 for replating, $1400 in parts, so about $2000 ballpark. This shouldn't discourage anyone, you can definitely do a motor rebuild for a LOT less, but I wanted a good as new motor so that meant replacing lots of stuff.

What direction do the shift forks need to be faced? I tried what I thought it was but doesn’t seem to want to turn in some of the gears and acts like it wants to pop out

Is it possible to have the address where you performed the cylinder adjustment?
    Thank you

it's been long time, but, do you have a spreadsheet or list of parts and prices that you used. also how is the bike now ? do you still have it ?
