What a savage John is not even phased in the least bit when facing engine rebuild. Thanks for step by step guide. I used this video to find out where all the parts went after I failed to ziplock everything. XD
13:25 stator flywheel is still on but then gone in next steps. I believe you need the flywheel tool to hold it and get that center nut off. Havent figured out any other way yet.
Because of your professionalism and thorough attention to detail, you have gained a new subscriber and my business. Thank you for taking the time to make this very informative video 🙏
Really kool series. Brings back memories of splitting cases to fix 2nd gear on a 750 Genesis motor (5-valves per cyl.) and on a XJ750 air cooled. Fun times !!!
I bet there are 20 people here who would have swapped you that engine for one that actually needed a rebuild. Almost a shame to see that one come apart. Great to learn from though. Thanks!
I tore mine down after 10,000 miles , 18,000 Miles and about to do it again next month @ 25,000 miles. I race mine hard AF tho. Everything gets ultrasonic cleaned , checked for tolerance , Everytime Ive had to replace at least 1 part .
John and Partzilla are awesome! I don't even have an R6 but I appreciate this video. I would love to see you guys take apart the engine on an '07 or '08 CBR600RR too.
What about pulling the bearing for the stator to get the rest of the basket off? I see you have removed the basket, I just didn't see anything in the video about getting it out. I'm currently stuck at this part before I split the case and I just don't want to break anything getting it out
14:11 How do you keep the transmission and drive gear from spinning when you take the drive sprocket nut off? Also, this nut on my 2005 is a 32mm. And the big nut on the clutch basket was a 30mm. Thank you. My chain broke and knocked the drive gear cover mount post off which is a part of the engine case mold. Exposed the transmission bearing. I'm replacing the top case and this video has been a life saver. Thank you John and Partzilla!
How did you place the engine on the stand? What type of stand is that and does require a comparability bracket? Thanks for the wonderful video this encourages more pinache for valve clearance adjustments.
Really awesome video series! I am wondering if the engine is more or less the same as my 2007 FZ6N? It has started to white smoke and I'm going to tear it down this winter. I just drained the coolant and it looks brown and almost oily? Is that a sort of coolant or could it be oil in the coolant? Its not milky at all. Thanks again for these videos!
I would have checked and written down all the valve tolerances, and done a cylinder head valve Test to make sure all were watertight, using white spirit.......shouldn't be an issue as almost a new engine but I just like to make sure.....
It never hurts to double check all tolerances, especially when sending something out to a third party for boring or honing. For the efforts of a timely video, we skipped that procedure.
Hi partzilla: wow very clean and helpful video! I'm planning to fix the second gear (slips on high demand) on my 2006 fjr, do you recommend accessing the gearbox from the top or from the bottom of the engine? Thanks
@@aldairgomez1968 Hi there, I did it from the bottom. You gotta take the engine out and go in from the bottom. I did a video detailing the job, you can check it out. Good luck. ua-cam.com/video/INTM12DB99c/v-deo.html
They look very cool and ideal for the garage. I’m in the Uk so Walmart a little way out, but thanks for the description, I’m going to try and find them, Cheers again Rich
Got them.... £3.79 on eBay from Glasgow, should be with me in a couple of days. Cheers for the description. So fed up with glasses dropping off in the garage when peering into and over things. Nice one mate 👍 Having said all that. Loved this teardown, it’s great to see in side so many different engines, it I think the R6 is a fave, Keep up the good work, Rich
Good question, we didn't remove them for this project, the machine shop did. If I remember correctly, it unscrews from the bottom of the head, but don't quote me on that.
We did this as a one-off project for a race team. We don't do this for retail work. You would have to consult a local service center or custom shop and check with them.
Hi Tommy! As we speak, we're finishing up the engine rebuild. The 636 kit preview video snuck it's way into the playlist before we were ready to reveal it; that is likely what you were seeing as private. The R6 rebuild will launch as a four-part series at the end of the week. Videos will show up in this playlist when ready: ua-cam.com/play/PLazGjIO6R4vT361OrBqOtpwXf4dmdJ4Nj.html Thanks for watching!
They should of torn down an engine like my 07 r6 with 52,000 miles to see what a worn out engine looks like instead of this perfect condition motor looks like
Skipped showing how to get the inside part of the stator off and then how the fuck do you get the shift fork and stuff out. You skipped such important shit.

this guy video is amazing! just what Ive been looking for.
thanks for making this video! quick question. what are you using to hold up and rotate the engine?

I used my clutch spanner vice grip tool on the drive sprocket to hold it. Kinda janky but worked.

Thank you for those amazing videos sir. God bles
If anyone was wondering. These steps apply almost identically to the R1. Differences are pretty common sense/intuitive.
Gracias ingeniero....saludos desde colombia. Como siempre respeto y admiracion .....ojala que este material tuviera traduccion en español ....gracias
Estamos trabajando en las traducciones para nuestros videos. Proximamente.
Where do I get the bracket to mount the engine on the engine stand
Thank you for a very good video. Cheers!
Wow , better explanation and the way to do things like you guy, no exist . Please can you let me know The size of the big one clutch nut please
Great video, thank you
a vary big thanks for making this video
I lost TDC on my 2009 R6, how do you find it again? I don't think the answer is as simple as it seems.
Hi thear is it possible to remove piston 3 and con rod without splitting the bottom half of the engine
Awesome job new sub here from Spain
Is there any difference between 07-06 R6 engine and 2012 R6 engine (fitting-wise)
Such a great video
Hey couple questions, do you have to take the engine out for this? Also is this similar process to an 2007 r1?
The bob Ross of engineering
Sir you’re amazing thank you for your patience
Are they nikasil coated bores ?
Do i have to remove the head to get to the shift forks or can i just pop the bottom and and split the crank case
Can two half crankcase from same model years be paired as one?? ...
Very informative video. Thanks for contributing ur valuable time. Learned alot from this video and helped me understand my engine better.
No need to release the oil pump chain to remove the clutch basket. As you can see the chain is behind.
Great video. @13:45 how do you flush out the oil properly?
Nice video 👍
Good day . I just want to find out . I own a fz6 yamaha fazer 600 2006 model . Would the fazer have similar engine to the one you stripped here
No, different motor in that bike.
how do you get the dowels out of the oil pump I can't get them out and don't want to damage them
THANKS A LOT for this very informative video!!!!
Great video.
Any tips for removing bolts for shift drum? Cant get them out because of being centre tapped
Once you remove the bearing housing on the transmission, it should slide out with a little finesse
You did take the head nuts off from the outside in right? The last but being the center? Disassembly is the reverse of install.. just wondering.

Sounds like a blown head gasket. OIl in the coolant. These motors are going to be different to rebuild.
What kind of modification was made on the part of the pistons for the new ones of the brand wiseco? increased the gap?
Increased the bore and piston size.
@@PartzillaParts What preparation was done on the head?
Please do the 2015+ R1

can I follow these videos for a 2006 r6? I really want to know...
We'll add it to the list!
Very nice!
Great vid. What kind of engine stand is that and does it first a r1 engine on it?
It was a custom fabrication from a pair of standard automotive stands.
Same steps for ‘14 R6, what about ‘19
Hi John is there any Yamaha engine that you don't know inside out ? #johntheyamahawizard. tgc Gaz
When replacing the output shaft do I have to take out of these parts or just the head?
You should be able to leave the pistons in the cylinder bores but everything else around it has to come out.
Muchas gracias ingeniero
ótimo vídeo! obrigado, cara!
Hay if i were to put an r6 ecu in my fz6r would it run like an r6?
I believe r6 engine is completely different.
Nice job...👏👏👏💥💥💥🚀🚀🚀

Hey¡ How do you do the work? From bottom or top? I have a R6 2008, and same problem, my 2nd gear slips

John how much will it cost to rebuild R6 engine
We don't service customer vehicles, you would have to call a service department.
thanks for the video
Could you make a 09-14 R1 rebuild?
We will add it to the to-do list!
Fantastic vid but where did you get those glasses you had on ???
They are my Clic magnetic breakaway glasses. My eyes are not as good as they once were. Walmart has them, I think.

How do you take out the oil spray nozzle?
Good question, we didn't remove them for this project, the machine shop did. If I remember correctly, it unscrews from the bottom of the head, but don't quote me on that.
Nice job, like.
Like to see a leak down test first.
Can I use this for my 2003 Yamaha r6?
Entirely different motor.
@@PartzillaParts do you have anything close that I could use?
Don't have a full tear down on a similar motor at this time.
@@PartzillaParts thanks 😊
Is a 2004 and 2008 the same?? I have a 2004 Yamaha R6
No, they are very different.
Cool!
He makes it all look so damn easy lol
Where do I get a stand like that?
This was a custom stand we put together.
Partzilla was it easy to make? I am about to take apart my r6 and wanted to buy this or make it.
It was an Autozone engine stand and measured, cut and welded brackets to fit the R6 motor.
By default how many gaskets has the cylinder head?
Usually it's one gasket.
Partzilla thanks, i have a little oil leak near that joint, i think the other owner didnt give enought torque to the bolts of the head
This guy is a fucking legend
What's your fav/easiest engine to work on?
i want an engine like this built ?
Did you make that a question because you haven't decided if you want to take on the challenge or just have someone build it for you?
Partzilla want someone build it for me
Partzilla how to get in contact to you to build it ?
