I don't think anyone is interested in hearing alot about the mainstream/classic anime. A good reccomendation is "Grimgar Ashes & Illusions" You can find the first season on crunchyroll but the depth of the story is still in the in the light novels "Grimgar Fantasy & Ash" Its very much Isekai but its not your normal Isekai. The characters seem much more real and the situations are alot more dramatic than you would expect. Just be warned if your one of those types with leaky eye sockets you will be victimized.
I reccomend Nana as well to anyone into romance shoujo anime but especially to every young girl/woman out there. Nana's writer clearly has an excellent grasp on how erratic and confusing emotions can be for young women and how it leads them to insecurity and making decisions they regret or don't understand themselves. It also highlights the dynamics of femininity but also the attributes that make men successful with women like how what's arousing may not be comforting and vice versa. At the same time though, I'd say one will only truly appreciate these various nuggets of human behaviour if they have a good grasp of them already. There is a lot of great comedy in this show too, I think the reviewer here slipped a little bit by not mentioning that even in some of the most serious moments it's hinted there's often silliness in the drama as well. I watched this show at the start of 2023 and yeah, I was left wanting more and the ending was pretty lacking for the reasons explained in this review. I too hope that one day we get some continuation.
Nana is definitely the most realistic anime I have ever and probably will ever see. You already worded it perfectly; the way this story depicts relationships and people in general is incredible and so nuanced. The music and fashion are also incredible and it’s really neat to see an anime where the characters actually change clothes and have more than 1 outfit for years. The whole anime really is just so beautiful. I’d say I’m someone who never really cries when watching anything, but when I watched (and read the manga of) Nana I cried 4 times! The story is a total punch to the gut but so addictive you can’t stop watching/reading. I really hope it comes back one day when the author has recovered enough for it. Right now things look very positive - she put together an exhibition with new work just last year and said she wants to finish Nana one day! So now we only have to wait (hopefully). Thank you for this video. It was well put together and I’ve been longing to see more videos on this anime (as sadly there are way too little). Btw Nana and Hachi are definitely ‘just roommates’ haha wym there is a ton of queer subtext and codependency in their relationship aha… they broke me
Thank you so much! Nana is truly something special and there’s nothing else like it! It is looking hopeful that Yazawa will continue the series!! Fingers crossed!
Randomly stumbled on the anime when i was like 11 a long time ago. I also was mostly a shonen/comedy/action oriented watcher when it came to anime back then, of course being in the target demographic lol. But something about Nana stuck with me and had me thrilled to watch the few episodes available. I know it was just exciting to see an anime kinda give a glimpse into what it would be like growing up and finally heading out into the world on your own and the kinds of struggles that would bring. I know thats the aspect that stuck with me most, just watching the duo and friends make that apartment home. Surprised to hear to this day it's not concluded, but wishing the best for the mangaka's health first and foremost.
I’ve been eyeing nana for some time but never actually started it. I finally decided to watch it and man did I love it. I love how nana touches on all types of topics like love, friendship and even family dynamics. It’s also so realistic? Ugh I loved it so much and it made me ball my eyes out lol
i watched nana a few months ago and the only way i could describe it to my friend was how it all just felt so .. human. the relationships, the harsh reality of growing up and chasing your dream. it felt so real in a way i've never been able to get from any anime before this.
this was so well spoken and put elegantly put together. you should be really proud of yourself; I'm not sure if you would ever consider it but I'd love a follow up video somewhere down the road with said spoilers included. that is when you recover from the beautiful heartbreak that is nana of course
I saw this one floating around ages ago, I was meaning to watch it some time ago haha. Your review of its overarching themes and effort to inflict realism upon the viewer are impressive. I like me some romance anime too……will definitely watch and just know a powerful story is being told. One thing I respect authors for more than telling a good story or happy story, is telling a real and powerful story. It shows that they were methodical and selective with what elements to introduce and how those relationships would impact characters in the story, plus the viewer as they related to said characters. Not everyone has the skill to weave such elegant and powerful stories!
One of the few live-action movies (of anime/manga origin) I can actually recommend. I still have a big ass poster somewhere from the movie, the first one, can't speak for the second one. The soundtrack is amazing as well. I'm so glad that I picked up the manga back in the day when it was released since it seems to be pricey to pick up but I'm glad that it's getting re-released. It also warms my heart that it keeps reaching young and new audiences. Thanks for spreading the love.
Gia, from your video of my favorite anime and manga EVER (One Piece!), to this video of the work of art that is Nana, I’m so amazed by your content! Very detailed descriptions, summaries, and just you expressing your love for these awesome stories that will surely bring more new fans to these series; continue on making videos Gia, you have a special talent that can reach the hearts of millions in the near future:)✌️
I always knew about Nana but I never gave it any attention, I liked the unique art, but that's it. You convinced me to give it a shot, you just got a new subscriber. Lovely video.
I got into Nana back in September and it altered my brain chemistry LOL. Fashion, Music, and Romance are some of my favorite types of media, so to see those blended together so beautifully was a game changer for me.
Very much agreed! Disservice to call it only a romance. I had started it, but stopped when the friend I was watching it with moved. Thanks for reminding me about it. Great video and I'd love to see more.
You should keep uploading videos like these that you think people should watch it’s really entertaining. Hoping one video I’ll watch a new anime that you recommend!!
Another excellent video! Your scripts are very well written and you are able to convey your passion without coming on too strong. Great editing as well! I also really enjoyed the switch in tone to regular Gia once the script was over 😂.
I just finished watching it, binged it in a couple of days. Tears in my eyes more or less every episode after episode 25. I know the series is more targetted at women but as a 23 year old guy i must say this series easily goes into my top 5. Hope the artist gets well and is able to finish it sometime
I haven't watched Nana in years, but I was on the verge of tears during the whole video. I think only one fact is enough to show how awesome this story is.
Tysm for uploading such informative and entertaining YT videos Gia! I would love it if you could make a video of 90s anime vs modern anime or videos of characters such as Nico Robin or how anime helped in times of need. Best of luck Gia wish you all the very best and I shall always be on tune for all your videos on this platform!
If the shoujo/romance streak you mention is still going, i recommend a new one called Skip and Loafer (still ongoing). It's amazing (both the manga and anime) and also on the more realistic side of things like Nana. Which is so rare for the ones that depict high school experience. Hope you like it.
Just finished it about 20 mins ago & went looking for reviews😂. Loved this series, start to finish. Watched it in English dub too. I don't care how blasphemous it is. The VAs did a great job.
