A trippy arthouse movie about a man on a revenge spree against the cult that killed his girlfriend....or wife. Anyhow, bring on the chainsaw fight. Here's my review of MANDY! #Mandy
A few years back, Jeremy had an occasional point between Dogshit and bad. An alternate version of the "if you're drunk"-rating. It was called: "You might enjoy it, if you were shitfaced hammered drunk."
Mini-Batman Begins reunion with Thomas Wayne(Linus Roache) & Joe Chill(Richard Brake) too bad Bale wasn't in it too lol. I would love to see a yell off onscreen between Cage & Bale lol.
Pause Films it was one of the Twilight films. He made a joke about Blade (the vampire) then was dressed in Blackface with an Afro wig and some shades and said “Blade, muthafucka” it was hilarious but not everyone will/would find that funny. Black guy btw.
I remember all my life Raining down as cold as ice A shadow of a man A face through a window Crying in the night The night goes into Morning, just another day Happy people pass my way Looking in their eyes I see a memory I never realized How happy you made me, oh Mandy
This pretty much sums Mandy up perfectly, but it's worth accentuating just how perfect this role is for Nic Cage. It's essentially the role he was born to play. No real spoilers, but there's a scene where he's going through a series of emotions in a bathroom, and hot damn did he just nail it.
Is that even really a thing? That's like saying "X person has the best opinions". Reviews are opinions and as such hold no value because of subjectivity. I love Jeremy as much as the next guy, just thought this was a weird comment is all.
@@TechOmegaMusic yeah, I’ve rewatched it a few times, since I left that comment _a year ago._ I’ve also seen a review that went _way_ in-depth into the lore etc., so I understand the movie & all it’s nuances now.
I got to say first time watched like 15 mins and i was tired and am like what is the big deal about this movie ( went blind on this one ) but was like it has Nic Cage man, few days later prepared, told my wife she has to watch it with me we sat down and after 15 mins looked at my wife and was like " you feeling this?" she was like " yeeeeeeaah, can we watch something else " I was like "I want to but there has to be something good about this let's continue and see where it goes and we can watch whatever you want after", she was like "okay" and shit started to happen and we were like wow! this is dark! and we just rolled with it and Bam! we were like " WHAT THE FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!"
Literally one of the best movies to watch high. But you’re right , it’s not for everyone. If you enjoy indie movies then I’m sure you’ll get some enjoyment out of it. But it’s best watched with a big ass bowl and some munchies.
I love how amused Jeremy is about the prospect that you should be high to enjoy this movie. He just sounds like he's having so much fun with that part of the review.
I think the premise of the movie was advertised as him getting revenge after her death. It happened far into the movie but i knew going in that she died and that didn’t really make it any less interesting
I saw it twice sober, and with it's impending Shudder release I need to remedy that third watch. Preferably with friends. But what I think is neat about this movie is, it's a mindworm. It doesn't "get in your head" and then leave after you've given it a bit of attention, it burrows. You wake up the next morning and the axe flying through the air, or the big final confrontation, or that fucking Starling story, those scenes flash in front of you and you realize you're STILL thinking about it. It haunts you, and I think that's kinda beautiful.
I know this movie is old, but with the upside coming out soon could you review the Intouchables? Would be nice to see a comparison between the two considering the intouchables is one of the best movies ive watched.
Nic Cage is one of my favorite actors. I want to see him in some good movies again. I think it would be really cool, if he got a role in MCU, too, but Disney wouldn’t hire someone like him probably.
One of the only movie critics I trust, and one of my favorite youtubers in general, one of the people I take inspiration from and admire both in UA-cam, movie critiques, and just life in general, and I just basically got confirmation he smokes weed, just like me. I just came back from a dentist appointment, and this is now officially the best day ever. Btw sweet bong man!
Really enjoying how positive you’ve been lately. It’s refreshing. I mean, for sure if you hate something let us know. But also just saying, the positivity is cool too.
Visually, its beautiful but, it blows its load in the first half. It was advertised as a Grindhouse film. Its starts off as fantastic psychedelia and in the last half of the film, it doesnt do a good job of either. Its mess.
I think a good question would be what other movies you should watch high? Also, I add my voice to the many others asking to add this to your rating system now that it is legal😄
best films to watch high (in my opinion): Fear and loathing in las vegas. valerian and the city of a thousand planets. scott pilgrim vs the world. the matrix. inception
The main influences to "Mandy" were Argento + Jodorowsky, plus a lot of Carpenter's "Dark Star". So there you have a first list. Other trippy influences even more prominent in writer-director Cosmatos's debut feature, "Beyond the Black Rainbow" (2010), which also needs to be seen high, include Kubrick (especially "2001" and "A Clockwork Orange"), Tarkovsky, Croneberg (all the way back to his early student films), Nicolas Roeg, Douglas Trumbull, and Ken Russell, all their 70s and early-80s films, and single films such as "THX 1138", "Zardoz", "Buckaroo Banzai", and "Begotten".
I think that they kept Cage in check with silence over some of his over acting. I loved the Beyond the Black Rainbow also. Originality, Style and Atmosphere can go a long way in my book. It's no Donnie Darko, but it has a voice that speaks to me.
If this movie was 30 min shorter I think it would have been great. Like you said, some scenes felt like they lasted forever... and not in a effective uncomfortable way. It just felt like they were wasting minutes of my life at a point. Lol
Everyone always talks about how much they love Nic Cage going full John Wick, but I think the first hour or so of setup is my favorite part of the movie. Does a great job of establishing the tone, themes, and characters in the movie.

This review is hilarious. A better time if you're stoned is a rating that deserves to be a on a few movies for sure (A Wrinkle in Time being one of them)
I now require that new rating to stick.
I've come to bargain..

A few years back, Jeremy had an occasional point between Dogshit and bad. An alternate version of the "if you're drunk"-rating. It was called:

I think if Jeremy were to review Legion (as in the FX X-Men spinoff series, not the movie from years ago) this would be an appropriate rating for it.
"You ripped myy SHIIIRT!! YOOOU RIPPED MY SHIIIIRRTT!!!"
Best line! Right before he did the Bruce Lee neck break, YEAH!
"is that Thomas Wayne?", - possibly the greatest movie review ever
And Joe Chill too.

Bathroom scene is the best crazy acting I’ve ever seen Nic Cage do
That was insane!!
Not gonna lie that scene was reason enough for him to get nominated for this movie.
Not gonna lie that scene was reason enough for him to get nominated for this movie. I totally agree.
It was fantastic acting and that decor was past distilled. So much detail in the shag carpet, the wallpaper, everything.
If you liked this scene watch "Vampire's Kiss". He eats a live cockroach!

Thank you for covering this movie. It deserves all the attention it’s been getting lately.
I count the fact that you said she is killed as a spoiler

It was implied that she was like kidnapped. When I saw it, I thought the cult nabbed her on the road and Nic Cage had to go rescue her.
