- Decided to do a review of the Purple Panda microphone I got in December 2018!
I spent ages looking for a decent mic for my gopro. Looked at expensive lav mics and powered ones and so on but decided to go for this one after seeing a few videos and it's brilliant for the price!!
I actually bought it for £12.99 but now it's about £25 on amazon!

I had just taken delivery of two of them an hour ago. Saw your video. Must admit sound great considering you on the bike. Thank you very much for the video.
Thanks for the video and for your review of the Purple Panda. It sounds really clear with no wind-noise at all - just ordered one myself, so I’ll see how it goes. Thanks again 👍
they're great!
Thanks mate. I recently changed from using a Drift Ghost 4K to a GoPro Hero 7 Black. It turns out that the Drift mic plug is a TS and the GoPro uses a TRS plug. I found that the hard way when I got back from riding in France and Spain. My audio could only be heard out of one speaker. Then I used a different, TRS mic with my Hero 7, but the crackling noise at higher speeds was awful and rendered my video useless. The only drawback I see here is having to use the adapter in order to go from a TRRS to a TRS. I'll give it a try though.
Hey thanks man for showing off the quality of the mic. You got a Twitter? Wanna make sure i don't miss a video.
We've used these for a couple of years and they're fab....
Yup, no complaints since I switched to mine!
Yes
I wish I had the same results as you. The Purple Panda microphone would pop A LOT when I used it for motovlogging above 60 MPH (100KPH). I replaced the Purple Panda with a Rode Lavalier Go mic and it cured the popping problem. I wish I had spent the money on the Rode mic in the beginning.
must be a good one because their price just keep going up on amazon. $45 USD as of 06/29/2020. it was $5 cheaper last week
And because you can't get the Rode Go! Backorder. I'm on stock alert for it and just ordered one of these because I too had a Boya and it SUCKS.
Pretty good audio i must say, What model of Gopro do you use it on?
Using the hero 7 black but sounds great on my 5 session too!
How did you get the dead cat on the sponge filter? I'm having a hard time getting it one the other one.
TBH I don't remember it being that hard to do. I just squashed the sponge thing a bit then the deadcat just slid right over the top! I'll have another look in a day or 2 when I do my motovlog set up video :)
it's a little fiddly but it can be done :
I just got the same mic. I am still trying to figure out a good spot for it. I had too much wind noise last time I used it. I am using it with a GoPro hero 7.
I have mine only just poking out from the cheek pad. You may need to put some extra fluff on it or actually around the mouth area to help reduce wind noise. 👍
it depends on the lid make but we're hoping you figured it out by now :D
Is this only for vlogging? I was wondering if this could work and improve on a comm setup like a cardo for mic quality
I only use it for motovlogs to be honest mate. they get decent reviews as a lapel mic too.
Twedymoto cheers. Thank you so much for your reply
Where in your helmet do you put the mic? I have the purple panda with the dead cat on and it sounds horrible 😤 I tried multiple locations in my helmet and I just get loud pops and cracks when I accelerate or go over a certain speed. The helmet I have is considered one of the quieter ones on the market so I’m finding it pretty frustrating trying to get this mic to work for me
I have a Icon Variant helmet with a chin guard thing on the bottom of it which may help with wind hitting my chest and coming straight up the helmet. The mic is positioned right in the corner where my cheek pad stops. I'm pretty sure i have a sponge and dead cat on with a little extra fuzz in my helmet too. HTH
I finally got it to work I have 2 dead cats around the mic. Haha I guess my bike is just really loud.
Excellent! I guess everyone will have different scenarios. Naked vs fairing, helmet shape, chin guard etc. My helmet has quite a big chin piece and I also have some dead cat fluff stuck on the inside to soak as much wind noise as possible and it works for me. :)
AHH a white ktm, what will they think of next.
looks btter than the 690 imo
I cant get any audio through mines on the go pro.. Using the right connector too.. any tips?
How many black rings does your mic plug have? 2 or 3?
has anyone used this to record exhuast or intake noise for cars?
I've only ever used it for recording voice in my helmet but it's something i may look at!
Hi i see in the comment that good on hero5 session did you try it? Do you need to downgrade your hero5 session or just plug and play? I did try plug and play but no voice .
No need to downgrade or anything, mine worked fine. However there is a problem with the 5 session. You need to switch it on first by pressing the little grey button, then press record. I had that problem too and found a workaround on UA-cam. 👍
Twedymoto hmmp ok I see that video last time maybe I did not follow properly I will try again later thanks.
Ya sounds good it’s clear without that crackle lol what’s the hp on the 701? ✌🏻🇨🇦
Thanks! It's 72hp at the wheel buddy. Goes like a stabbed rat 😂
Twedymoto stabber rat? Lol
LOL. *stabbed rat!
Twedymoto hahaha ok never heard that one before lol ✌🏻🇨🇦
It's an odd saying, but I think it's a British thing. "rat up a drain pipe" "s**t stink" and "s**t off a shovel" are also used here lol
What camera are you using with mic?
GoPro
Ghost Drift
This vid was a gopro session 5 but I use a hero 7 black now.
How have you got this set up inside your crash helmet mate? I've got mine on my chin area with sponge, dead cat and wrapped all together and I find it completely junk
Yeah mate, it's in my icon variant. Tucked in the corner next to my cheek pad and protected from the wind by the chin skirt. What camera are you using?
@@Twedymoto tried it on a drift an a yi 4k plus.... And to be honest, it's junk
Fair enough pal. Can't fault it with my hero 7 black, not tried it with the 5 session.
@@Twedymoto it's ALOT better in your video mate. I couldn't get over 50 without audio breaking up. Sounds fine for the bike but for my voice it's no good
Which way the mic pointing?
It's in my helmet, in front of my mouth.
@@Twedymoto thx
Hi mate, I actually just bought one myself! Not set it up yet though
Nice one mate. If you're using the gopro USB C adapter, you'll need to use the short adapter cable that comes with the mic. 👍
@@Twedymoto I'm gonna run tests when I get a chance
What GoPro do you use? Also what settings?
I usually use the Hero 7 Black, on 2.7k 60fps with protune on 👍
@@Twedymoto Sweet same here, going to get this mic also do you use GoPro or Flat for colours?
I use gopro. Not clever enough for colour correction etc lol
@@Twedymoto Nice! Alright I'll stick with those settings and hopefully my footage turns out nice cheers man
I have the same mic and this thing sounds like shit. You cant really hear me talk. Could you give me some help or what it could be?
Can you help me please? I have the same mic you have i have it on my goprohero7 black. the audio is to loud and is poping what should I do to turn the sound down I also am using the wind muff that came with it. I turned the mic to standard also turn on the wind option and still it wont work.
That's odd, it just worked straight out of the box for me, didn't have to change any settings. are you using the black sponge and the fluffy sock? I haven't recorded a vlog for a long time using the mic so i'll have to check settings for you.
Finally someone answered! Haha also yes I am using both on the mic.
Fixed the problem I just got a better wind muff. My bike is to loud lol
Can I have it
